Customers consistently note the deep gameplay, touching story, and immersive world of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, often praising the game's music as well. However, some find the voice acting and battle system to be challenging, while others point to occasional performance and resolution issues, particularly in handheld mode. The map's usability is also a source of some frustration for players.

    Amazing game

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was my first experience with JRPG, in fact, even with a true RPG. I never enjoyed turn-base combat in games so I usually avoided them. I started looking into Xenoblade when there weren't as many games on the Switch, and this game had been compared to Breath of the Wild, which is possibly my favorite game. Xenoblade 2 is huge Open-World. I don't remember how long it took me to beat it, but I'm sure I put in 80 hours taking my time through the game and completely most of the side quests. The locations are all gorgeous! And the music is among my favorite of any game I've played, it is a great quality experience. If you're like me, new to turn-based RPG's, then don't worry, the game is easy to get into. As far as 'turn-based', it's not like older RPG's where you weren't able to move around, or it switched to a new battle screen when you fight.. Xenoblade gives you the ability to move around freely, and your character will simply continue attacking. As you press different attacks, it will switch at the next time your character attacks. It's less about skill of timing like Zelda Breath of the Wild, but more about strategy and leveling up before taking on a stronger enemy. The complexity of attacks between your blade and driver are the most difficult thing, but also to most fun. You collect blades (powerful assistant characters) throughout the game, and each one has different skills. I really enjoyed the story of the game, but it is at times a bit cheesy, kind of in the same genre as a lot of Anime. The DLC on the other hand, is actually darker and more serious I think. The gameplay is completely different but an awesome addition to the game. Overall, If your like big huge adventures with technical gameplay, you'll really enjoy the game. The story is very interesting, it can get pretty deep/dark at times, great for me, but maybe a bit much for young children. My only downside is that although I really really like all the characters in the game, I feel like they went way overboard on the Female character designs. Many of them are partial to mostly naked. There aren't any sexual themes if I remember correctly, but even the main girl Pyra (on the cover) is basically in underwear and has an enormous chest. Spoiler free, she has different outfits/versions later that show more in different areas.

First off, I'd give this game a 3.5 if I could, but I rounded up. It's a fun game overall. Battles start out somewhat breezy but eventually become 5 minute slogs, though fortunately the battle system remains fun since it is so rhythmic. Hopefully a patch comes through to better balance enemy HP, because you will find that it makes more sense to avoid battles and do quests instead, and no game should be balanced to avoid playing it. The environments continue to show that Monolith are masters of environment design and are a joy to explore...or would be with an industry-standard map system. This game astounds in how many ways it is both well-designed and more archaic than a first-generation PS2 game. Now for the worst parts of the game. The story might as well be "Generic Anime: The Game". There is nothing that you haven't seen before in this game. The writing is amateur and the story hits every cliche that every mid-tier anime series has hit for at least 4 decades. The voice acting is very spotty as well, though not as bad as the internet has made it seem. Then there's...the women. If you're a young boy or teenager, well, you'll have some material to keep you occupied in your room for a while. But otherwise if you're too old for this stuff, it's just embarrassing and is the most obvious pandering I have seen in a good while. Before someone gets mad though, I'm not going to let this affect my rating, as the game has enough technical problems as it is. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is certainly not a worthy successor to its forebear, but somehow it has maintained my interest more easily, so I have to give it credit for that. It's worthwhile as a game, but for anyone looking for anything more than a time-waster until much better games come out next year, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive edition, thankfully, was what I was hoping this game would be. I know a lot of people love this game, but I just could not get into it like I got hooked on XBC DE. This is something I hope to try again some day, but it just did not grab my attention like I hoped for.

If you like RPGs and have the switch this is a must buy. The game shows you how to play as you go along the story. It has humor and the story is great. If you play on handheld mode you will notice resolution drop but the game is still payable. Also, you can go back to cut scenes you've unlocked too.

I had to look over several reviews from video game websites due the mixed reception. Some reviewers complained about the voice acting, characters, the complicated battle systems, and the performance of the game in handheld mode. I will address these factors as they were my main concerns when purchasing the game. The voice acting and the character designs do not bother me. The voice acting fits the main characters just fine. The voice of the villains do come off as a little cheesy. After hours of playing the main characters Rex and Prya have grown on me. I have no problem with the battle system. Unlike other RPGs this is not turn based combat. Combat takes place in real time and you have to manage your team. Your main character auto attacks and you can move around during battle for better attack positions, during this time your gauge will also fill up special attacks. I find the combat enjoyable although some enemies take longer to beat than I would want. I find the performance in handheld mode satisfactory, a patch was launched in late December so perhaps that fixed performance issues other players were experiencing when the game first launched. I have not experienced any slow down, the game runs smoothly for me. This game is also highly influenced by Anime, perhaps that might be a turn off for some players. Overall if your looking for a game that delivers massive worlds to explorer with a cast of anime inspired characters and real time combat, I highly recommend Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Oh yeah, I really love the gorgeous soundtrack.

The most confusing combat system I have ever seen

The game itself is not bad. The design of the landscape and art are very good. And I'm pretty sure if you can get deep into the game, the gameplay can be quite solid too. But the problems of the game are also obvious. It's definitely not a game for everyone. Pros: Great visual when docked. Great art and game world design. Massive amount of content. Grabbing story. Cons: Blurry visual in handheld mode. When load is high, the pixel count can be very low and the overall image quality is quite bad. THE most confusing combat system I've ever seen. After reading articles and watching videos that explain the combat system, I'm still totally confused. Some articles even have contradictory explanations, which indicates even hardcore gamers don't necessarily get things correct. The first few hours of the game, I was frequently interrupted by its tutorial. I think I patiently read all the tutorials but I'm still totally in the dark. Definitely one of the worst tutorial systems out there. Voice acting sometimes can be really awkward. The speech can be repetitive during combat or whenever daytime changes and new place is discovered.

    Great game with some flaws

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a great single player RPG. The story is solid but where the game really shines is in its gameplay. The combat system is complex yet intuitive and rewarding to learn. The blades system is reminiscent of games like Pokemon in that you raise each of them individually and form parties of them to tackle content. The story is solid (and may be extra interesting if you've played XC1) and the characters are likable. The game has basically everything you'd want from your typical RPG and yet somehow avoids being too grind-intensive. That being said, the game does lack some extra QoL features to further expedite your gameplay. Various character dialogue and cutscenes are pretty abundant and can get quite tedious after awhile. Additionally, the game looks flat out bad in handheld mode. Not nearly to the point of being unplayable but enough to make you think that it looks bad (especially if you're used to Zelda/Mario graphics). Luckily Monolith has begun addressing these issues with their updates and are slated to continue supporting the game for at least another year, so these issues may be resolved over time.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of my favorite games. I was actually a little leery about the game before it came out, and didn't buy it right away. After hearing some glowing reviews, I decided I'd give it a shot. I'm so glad I did. I have been absolutely absorbed into this game. The world, the characters, the story, the combat, everything is just so fun and compelling, I just don't want to stop. I would recommend this game to anyone. There are just two comments I would make though. If you have seen anime and know you hate it, I would suggest not getting this game. It's art style is pretty anime and the story has some anime tropes. Also, if you are looking at buying this game for a young child, there is swearing in some cutscenes

I think you need to have an expectation of what a JRPG is before buying this game. If you go into Xenoblade 2 aware of the grindy nature, the sub par voice acting, and the 'wacky' anime mannerisms you'll enjoy the game. It's actually interesting because I could buy many games that are more fun, but not nearly as addictive. I have found myself glued to my switch for hours on end loving the combat system. Almost all RPGs have a meta game, and Xenoblade 2 is no different. That being said I think the rewards are substantial and have associated side missions that are enjoyable. Story is cliche but enjoyable. I honestly wasn't too into the story until 15 hours in. But once it gets going, it's a lot of fun. I have to knock it one star due to the grindy nature and the VERY repetitive voice lines during exploration. There is no need for the protagonist and his entourage to say the same stuff over and over and over and over again.

Deep combat, good story, likeable characters, beautiful soundtrack, and promised new content to come throughout the next year (mainly for expansion pass holders). Having a wonderful time with it so far, even with the less-than-optimal performance in undocked mode.

I never played the first Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii/Wii U so I didnt know what to expect. A few friends talked about it to me and I saw gameplay trailers that really caught my attention so I figured itd be the first game I buy when I got my own switch. I was not disappointed with my purchase. Combat-wise the game reminded me of Final Fantasy XIV with the auto-attack and you control when to use skills/arts/etc. When you finally see the open-world, you'll notice that there's A LOT of high leveled monsters that roam about and its extremely easy to get targeted by them. Especially when you're trying to get somewhere or trying to complete a side quest. Apparently it's supposed to be like that but I can't help but think the developer is a sadist. Still I've been really enjoying it. Story-wise, it's been good so far. I'm currently on chapter 4 which isnt very far. I'm still learning my way around in the game but so far it's been enjoyable. I'd definitely recommend it for someone who's a bit experienced in JRPGs but not sure for someone new to these types of games. One of my friends who isnt big on JRPGs enjoyed it and finished both the main game and the prequel so hit or miss for people new to JRPGs. Definitely a game that needs to be played though if JRPGs is your thing.

At first, I was a little put off by the different animation style from Xenoblade Chronicles X, but the gameplay and depth has definitely overshadowed that. Another thing is the English voice acting does not sync up with the characters mouth movements, and I'm guessing that is because they wanted to release this game in 2017 like they promised. Still a great game, fans of either the first game of X will love this. The arts combat are fairly deep and intuitive and the wide variety of weapons each character can use are fun. Any JRPG lovers will want to pick up this game.

I just finished the game and had to give my quick thoughts. To preface, I only got 15 or so hours into XC1 and XCX before hanging up the towel. I just couldn't do it. They were fine, but just weren't my thing. This game has had me glued to the screen for just over 100 hours of play before I beat it and I loved almost every minute of it. The combat is deep, addictive, and extremely satisfying, especially when you finally pull off a big full burst chain attack that does like 2 million damage. I say the combat is deep, not complex, because with each new bit of new combat ability, it adds to the existing combat in a way that feels natural and progressive and is the best part of the game. The visuals are stunning and handheld mode honestly isn't bad at all. I quite liked the story (hate that people who haven't finished the game are rating the story), though it has some pitfalls in the execution in the form of voice acting syncing poorly with mouth movement sometimes and a lot of stereotypical anime tropes, but once you start experiencing the story for what it is you start dismissing or forgetting entirely about those. I haven't had this much fun with a JRPG since Persona 5 and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get lost in a beautiful world, a great story, and thrilling combat

The story and characters have been engaging. It looks beautiful. The combat system at first seems simple but is deceptively complex, which is a good description for the game, in general. I’m already over 25 hours in, and I still haven’t unlocked all of the menu options. I also like the voice acting. Playing this game has made me want to play the first one again because I just like this series so much. I will note that I was not a fan of X.

This game is everything you probably wished Xenoblade Chonicles X had been. Better story, better characters & a slightly improved combat system. It's awesome. I'm glad to see the Switch now has 3 epic games to play at home OR on-the-go. Literally my only gripe with this game is that the developers were smart & made the game autosave when you create Blades... making save spamming for rare ones an impossibility. BUT that effects nothing obviously... just a want from a BotW exploiter.

It’s such a huge game with tons to do and explore and I really enjoy the combat in the game. I had never experience a jrpg game and was not used to its combat but I have to say it’s one of the things I enjoy the most from the game. It’s story is so good and has excellent cut scenes. I must admit that I played the original and was not wowed by it. A big part of that was that I was not crazy about the Wii controls. Play for about 10 hours and then just lost interest. Purchase of the sequel when I got a switch light and I have to say and grabbed me from the start and didn’t let go till the end. Great story, and great voice acting, great music end graphically very nice. Was not a fan of the first games combat system and while I would’ve liked this one to have a more traditional system I do have the changes that they’ve made Since the first game are a great improvement. I quickly purchased physical copy of the expansion and really enjoyed that as well. I put this game up there with the likes of breath of the wild, the Witcher three and Final Fantasy 12 as the best switch RPG ‘s.
