Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of my favorite games. I was actually a little leery about the game before it came out, and didn't buy it right away. After hearing some glowing reviews, I decided I'd give it a shot. I'm so glad I did. I have been absolutely absorbed into this game. The world, the characters, the story, the combat, everything is just so fun and compelling, I just don't want to stop. I would recommend this game to anyone.
There are just two comments I would make though. If you have seen anime and know you hate it, I would suggest not getting this game. It's art style is pretty anime and the story has some anime tropes.
Also, if you are looking at buying this game for a young child, there is swearing in some cutscenes

This game is amazing. The combat starts out simple but then it really pulls you in. The voice acting is a little lame but it’s still a ton of fun. You could put 100 hours into this game easy.

At first, I was a little put off by the different animation style from Xenoblade Chronicles X, but the gameplay and depth has definitely overshadowed that. Another thing is the English voice acting does not sync up with the characters mouth movements, and I'm guessing that is because they wanted to release this game in 2017 like they promised. Still a great game, fans of either the first game of X will love this. The arts combat are fairly deep and intuitive and the wide variety of weapons each character can use are fun. Any JRPG lovers will want to pick up this game.

After Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Wii U, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 returns to a more story centric game in line with the original Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii and New 3DS. The story in XC2 has great pacing and is interesting so it has that going for it. The combat is pretty complex and the tutorials don't do a great job of explaining it but if you get the hang of it, it's fun. The graphics look really nice. However, the game looks absolutely terrible in handheld mode as the resolution scales close down to 360p. The English voice acting is alright and there is also the option to use Japanese voice overs through a free download on the eShop, for those who prefer that kind of thing. Here's hoping Monolith Soft fixes that in a future patch. If you like JRPGs, give this a shot.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is strange, but enjoyable. It has really interesting mechanics and a very interesting world, very unlike any game I'm used to. I've barely scratched the surface and I'm always excited to get home and continue playing. The combat is not as painfully boring as it looks when watching it on youtube, playing it for yourself is much more enjoyable. I highly recommend you try this game out if you are on the fence, and give it a few hours to start unlocking more and more new components to the combat system.

The story and characters have been engaging. It looks beautiful. The combat system at first seems simple but is deceptively complex, which is a good description for the game, in general. I’m already over 25 hours in, and I still haven’t unlocked all of the menu options. I also like the voice acting. Playing this game has made me want to play the first one again because I just like this series so much. I will note that I was not a fan of X.

I did not get a chance to play the original Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii, and I never owned a Wii U, so this game is my first foray into the world of Xenoblade. I am currently close to 40 hours into the game, and I must say that I really love it. It feels like a traditional Japanese RPG in so many ways, which I adore, but what intrigues me the most is the battle system. I was playing last night at 38+ hours in, and I am STILL learning and figuring out new combinations and techniques that I had no idea existed. I will say this - it is a pretty complicated battle system, and that may turn some people off, but I love it. Its "action-y" enough to where you don't get bored, but not so hectic as a button mashing action RPG where you are really only trying to kill the enemy before it kills you. The game play is deep, the characters are interesting, and the graphics are pretty good. Admittedly, the frame rate does drop significantly when playing in handheld mode - but not enough to bother me. Overall, I think this is a great modern take on the semi-traditional Eastern RPG, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves anime, fantasy, adventure or role-playing games.

Fun JRPG, the combat and world are excellent. Voice acting is pretty rough but the Japanese voice pack is free. Some of the character design is pretty awful, that's the biggest complaint I have.

Switch Now Has 3 Epic Games

This game is everything you probably wished Xenoblade Chonicles X had been. Better story, better characters & a slightly improved combat system. It's awesome. I'm glad to see the Switch now has 3 epic games to play at home OR on-the-go. Literally my only gripe with this game is that the developers were smart & made the game autosave when you create Blades... making save spamming for rare ones an impossibility. BUT that effects nothing obviously... just a want from a BotW exploiter.

I never played any of the other Xenoblade games and decided to pick this one up. I was blown away!! This game is amazing! It’s such a huge game with tons to do and explore and I really enjoy the combat in the game. I had never experience a jrpg game and was not used to its combat but I have to say it’s one of the things I enjoy the most from the game. It’s story is so good and has excellent cut scenes. Overall it’s an incredible game and I’m so glad I decided to purchase it.

I'm a longtime gamer but real life has sort of taken over so I don't game as much as I used to. With that said, the quality of games nowadays isn't really on par with the older stuff so coupled with the time constraints, I don't feel as compelled to play. This game changed that. I find myself going back to it every chance I get. The story is great thus far, the characters are really likeable, and the combat is complex and interesting. Highly recommended!

This game doesn't require having played Xenoblade Chronicles 1 or X as it is a different place and time. The gameplay is more reminiscent of 1, while the world feels as epic and awe inspiring as X did. The Blade/Driver mechanic has almost a Pokemon feel to it, as you try to find rare ones and use their strengths against your enemy's weaknesses. This is a huge, beautiful game that you can take on the go. If you enjoy JRPG's at all, you should snag this.

The bad:
I presume that this game was made with returning players to the franchise in mind. For first time players such as myself the game takes way, WAY too long to explain the game mechanics in any detail.
The mini-map is useless. You will spend a lot of time getting lost trying to find the next objective.
The English language dub for the game is laughably bad. Calling it "community theater" would be an insult to amateur performers everywhere.
The menu system is a bit clumsy. Players sometimes have to navigate through multiple sub-menus to complete one action.
True to JRPG form the cutscenes could have been edited to half the length without losing any details. This last one is a minor quibble. It has become standard form for JRPG's to do this. It's nothing unique to this particular game.
The good:
The optional Japanese language pack is available as a free download.
Environments are varied and interesting to look at.
Combat mechanics and team dynamics are interesting once they are properly explained.
The story is original and engaging. It's not the usual "Boy with stupid haircut saves the princess and/or world from ultimate evil" we've all seen before.
In all, I do not regret buying this game. There is enough there to keep me engaged and wanting to play more. With an improved or perhaps optional new player tutorial and a much better English dub I could have easily given Xenoblade Chronicles 2 a five-star review.

The Switch isn't necessarily the most powerful console out there, but I'm surprised at how lovely this game looks. It also plays really well. If you're a fan of the JPRG genre, definitely give this game a try.

I have put probably 200 hours into BOTW and it was amazing. But this is better! Battles are engaging, there are tons of things going on to manage. It's so fun. Don't let reviews dissuade you when they complain of too much auto attacking. Once you get a few hours into this (very long) game, you will be busy managing all kinds of things during battle. I love the story, I love the characters. Buy it, well worth the money!

Wondeful story with amazing characters and enjoyable plot. The game has beautiful music, graphics and writing. Easy to lose track of time in this journey. The voice acting has its charm and the world is vast. I recommend this game to anyone who loves story driven naratives, strong character writing, and hours of fun gameplay.

This game offers many vast areas to explore with very pretty visuals along with many complex mechanics for battles, exploration, and character progression. There's a ton of content, this game takes a quite a long time to complete, but there's enough quality every step of way to make it feel fun most of the time. The music is also excellent so the long adventure doesn't get stale.

Never got into a JRPG much prior to this game. In fact I have never picked up a xenoblade series game prior to this either. With both of those things said, this game grabbed me very quickly into the game. I got addicted trying to pull rare blades and upgrading affinity charts. Easy time burner just watching the amazing story play out as you go through the game.

If you've enjoyed previous Xenoblade games you'll enjoy this one. However, it doesn't feel like much has changed overall, so if you are looking for something completely new or lots of changes this probably isn't for you. Also if you haven't liked previous Xenoblades you probably won't like this either. It has beautiful music throughout. A fun experience throughout exploring and collecting new blades.

Xenoblade Chroncles 2 rounds out the Nintendo Switch's stellar first year, and while there is certainly fun to be had here in this deep and rewarding RPG, there are little nitpicks that are soon to be addressed in a patch rolling out in the beginning of 2018. Map and inventory shortcuts, performance updates, maybe even some new dialogue packs make this game as it currently not the best form of itself. So give it a month; you probably have plenty to play on Switch right now anyway.
