Customers are overwhelmingly positive about Yakuza 0's gameplay, story, and the sheer amount of content, including side quests and mini-games. Many appreciate the unique fighting styles and the immersive Japanese-inspired open world. However, some players expressed minor concerns regarding the subtitles and controls, while others found the frequency of cutscenes to be excessive. Overall, the positive feedback on the core gameplay loop significantly outweighs the negative comments.

We are very lucky that Sega decided to bring this game over to the States because we all know Sega love to make Sonic games but leave us wanting Phantasy Star and other games that will never come out here in the States. Yakuza 0 is a perfect start for new comers to the series because it's a prequel so you wont be lost with its story. The story is great the fighting is super fun and theres alot of side missions and games that you can do and play.
Definitely pick this game up! You won't regret it at all.

I played Yakuza 1 on the PS2 during the team it released and it was quite an unusual game for me. It differs a lot from your stereotypical Anime influenced Japanese games and followed a realistic art direction. It was enjoyable, fun and then story was quite interesting. I never played any of the other Yakuza games that followed despite hearing great things about them. Releasing almost always on the west at least a year after their Japanese release, the games followed the familiar but successful formula.
The series has a big cult following and once you try the game, you will understand the reasons. The series offers a small Japanese open world, brawling fighting mechanics, and quite the mixture of side quests that ranges from helping, tracking down and engaging NPCs in interesting conversations.
Yakuza 0 is a prequel to the first game and more than any other prequel out there, it does THE BEST to get you into the world of the story and establishes the characters in a very interesting way. The story is deep and interesting and is told in a very very well paced settings.
The game's score is nothing short of superb. Relying if rock and Japanese instruments, the game has a set of very interesting scores that keeps getting better.
I was pleased with the game, it took me a week to finish it and I never ever came close to the 100% completion mark, due to work, I couldn't spend more time.
SEGA does really produce the best outta Japan.

A great place to start the Yakuza series if you haven't played a previous entry. The story is isolated and takes place before the opening events of the first Yakuza title.
This game is brimming with side quests, and the story is excellently voiced and presented. The fictional area of Tokyo is beautifully created and brings an authentic vibe of Japan in the 80's.
If you like crime stories and over the top action, you can't go wrong with Yakuza 0.

Good story and the combat in this game is truly fun. It's the beginning out the Yakuza series and the remaster is awesome and worth picking up. Don't think about it, just do it!

If you love a game with a serious story that doesn't forget to be fun and wacky, look no further than the Yakuza series. In Yakuza 0 you play as 2 different characters and follow their drama filled lives in 80s Japan. Combat is fun and over the top, and there are plenty of fun mini games and sidequests to keep you entertained when you want a break from the main plot.

This game is a must play for those new to the franchise. The game is very story driven with the main protagonists; Kiryu and Majima. There are many mini games such as arcade games, darts, Karaoke, gambling, and the combat area also. You'll have a fun with lots of hours trying to do everything before finishing the main story!

This is the prequel that kicks off the Yakuza story line. It has descent graphics, very fun game play, and best of all all the fun mini games.
the basics:
This story revolves around two chars (Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima). It sets them up for future storylines and fleshes out their personality. Basically the story is a very macho/gangster/honorable theme going on and feels like a 90s HK action movie.
What i loved about this game
- those mini games are excellent and fun
- virtual tour of japan in the 80s. the environment really sells the game.
- the fighting is very fun with 6 different style of fighting. in addition to using every day items as weapons. nothing is as awesome and grabbing a store sign and putting thugs in their place.
- the voice acting is really good.
the bad
- the graphics while is good is not eye popping. certain chars looks less fleshed out than others (note they are minor chars or street NPCS)
- certain parts of the game gets dragged down and the pacing needs some work
Overall though, i really enjoyed the game and it is a very good addition to the Yakuza series.
more info! if you liked this game, then play Yakuza 1 (or wait for the remake), then Yakuza 4 and 5. (ps3 games)
TLDR: this game is for beating people up, have playing mini games and walking around 80s japan. if this doesnt appeal to you skip this game.

Fun and interesting, the game is strongly divided between involved/invested story telling, and goofy side quests that help you cool off from the intense action. The combat pretends to be simple, but it has a lot of depth, so you’ll need to actually invest in learning it.
There are quite a lot of mini games that are fun and involved, but they expect you to master them, truly master them. This can be frustrating at times since there’s so much to do in the game that is can be overwhelming. You want to finish the mini game and do well, but you also want to go to the next mini game.
The only real complaints I have are in regards to a clunky and annoying menu/UI. It isn’t too apparent at first, but it never feels like the menus were made to be convenient. It isn’t intolerable, just a minor complaint.
Over all, fun and engaging, a solid recommendation from me.

The physical aspects of the product were good. Disc was intact and could read. The box was not cracked. The game itself is fantastic. Its a nice shake up to the tried and true formula of the Yakuza franchise. I could go more in depth, but most people just glance at these. Its good if you like a small sandbox world beat em up, with plenty of mini games, and a Hong Kong cop movie style story.

Yakuza 0 is a little hint of GTA but without the cars. I feel it is more closely related to another popularly known game, Shenmue (also by Sega for Dreamcast). Also, it's located in Japan so there will be some interesting cultural differences if you are not familiar.
Graphics may not be up to par (since it originally came out in 2015), but I think it's still pretty good for today's standards. However, this is not the reason why you would buy this game. There are tons to do, ranging from playing old school Sega Games, to Karaoke singing, mini race car racing, etc. etc. Combat is pretty fluid but can be a little repetitive, but I'm not too far into the game yet so there might be more interesting ways to fight. The main story is quite serious toned, but some of the side stories are hilarious. It's a good mix and balance of both.
This is my first Yakuza game and after playing this one for a bit, I wish I had discovered this franchise sooner. In addition, I'm pretty hyped for the upcoming remaster as well: Yakuza Kiwami. I hope they continue to do remasters for the other series as I will be following this series quite closely.

A great beat-em-up with an interesting plot. It’s nonstop action with a lot of side plots and mini games. The action never takes itself too seriously and is frequently over-the-top. Didn’t really know what to expect going in and ended up loving it and buying Yakuza Kiwami as soon as I finished this.

As someone whose never played a Yakuza game before, I've been completely blown away. The story is gripping and intense, the combat is fun and satisfying, and the side missions are incredibly goofy and entertaining distractions from the main story. Don't hesitate to jump into the series with this game, it is well worth it.

This game somehow manages to be brutal, lighthearted, badass, and downright silly at the same time. The main story is fantastic, the side missions are hilarious, the action is satisfying, and the amount of content available is staggering. This is definitely a contender for personal game of the year.

Sega's Yakuza series is highly regarded in Japan and a new one is produced every year. Older versions have come out on previous PlayStation consoles. What makes Yakuza 0 special is that is a prequel to all the main games. This is where to jump in if you have any interest at all in the series.
The game itself builds upon the old Shenmue series. It's an limited open-world game. You can't roam everywhere but it is big enough to get lost in.
The game is story driven. You are part of the Yakuza. An engrossing tale is told thru the eyes of two separate characters.
It's not just the main story line. The side quests are what makes this series famous. They are absurd. There are a large amount of mini-games to play. Even old Sega games.
The main character models look very nice. Some of environments don't have as much detail.
This is a game not to be missed. There's nothing else like it.
(Caveat: The game audio is in Japanese and you have to read a lot of subtitles.)

The Yakuza games are definitely not for everyone. They are a seedy, mature look at the underworld of the "Japanese mafia". And if you're not into Japanese culture at all, man, you're out of luck with these games. They're soaked to the bone in it.
A vague way to describe this, and all Yakuza games, is to call them a GTA brawler with tons of minigames and RPG elements, with some Dynasty Warriors sprinkled in to boot. And that would be a terrible, inelegant way to detail the action, which is a wonderful blend of third-person hand-to-hand combat with so many sidequests to distract you that you might lose your mind in the process.
Plus I haven't even mentioned the story! One of the best of the series, hands down. Two men, one wanting to break free of the yakuza life to defend his family's honor, and one wanting to get back into it, willing to do anything for his former glory. You'll love it, I can pretty much promise you. Get it today!

I've asked my son to write this review, since he's the one who played this game.
The Yakuza series is an open-world beat-em-up game featuring a complex story about the Yakuza (basically the Japanese mafia) and starring Kiryu Kazuma.
Yakuza 0 is a prequel to the main series, and it's a great place for beginners to jump in. The story begins in 1988, over a decade before the beginning of the first Yakuza game. If you're new to the series, start here and move forward with Yakuza Kiwami, coming soon.
This game is very weird, and it has a lot of goofy things you can do in the open world. The real star here is the story though. If you enjoy political stories like Game of Thrones, you should give the Yakuza series a shot.
