This game is basically Yakuza 7 in the series. However, I understand why Sega opted for the new name is because this game has a brand new protagonist. I was skeptical about Yakuza turned based RPG style at first; however, it is really a well made game. I had a lot of fun playing this game. It seems like the Yakuza franchise has now split into two brands: the action gameplay is now with Judgment, turned based RPG is with Yakuza. I enjoyed Judgment on PS5 a lot. Yakuza Like a Dragon PS4 is also entitled for free upgrade to PS5. Just remember if you started Yakuza on PS4, you can’t carry your save to PS5, and have to start over. I had played over 60 hours on PS4 so I decided not to start over on PS5.

The best Yakuza game so far. Has the engaging story with all the hallmark twist and turns of the Yakuza franchise and another cast of lovable characters for you to root for.
The turn-based combat system is refreshingly good after enduring the clunky real-time combat in previous games. Experimenting with the various classes is a ton of fun and each class has unique skills and perks to add variety to the fighting.
Graphics are much improved over previous games. The world of Yakuza never looked this good.
I greatly enjoyed my time with Yakuza like a Dragon and highly recommend it. The only criticism I have is that it can get a little grindy towards the end game.

Really fun game for all Yakuza series lovers. The turn-based mechanics are different from previous games but I found it to be enjoyable, still. Day Ichi edition comes with a really nice steelbook as well!

A really enterntaining rpg that conitnues the yakkuza storyline
since it's part 7 of the story, you will playas a new protag that is not kiryu in this game and overall it's rather fun for what it is

If you like turn-based RPG's this game will definitely scratch that itch. I didn't think I'd like the setting but was pleasantly surprised to find out I was wrong.

This is an RPG Yakuza game. I didn't know how much I wanted this until Sega played a joke on the world on April fools day. Unfortunately for them, everyone who saw it loved it. Thankfully it became a reality.
The battles are your classic turn based RPG mechanics. I don't have any issues with them, but some people are finding them outdated or boring. I'm not one of them. Give me a good old fashioned turn based game RPG anytime. I play most game genres except sports. They just don't interest and engage me like they used to. Everything else about the game is your standard Yakuza stuff. There's still plenty of mini games to partake. The romancing is very limited though.
The RPG mechanics at play here are a job class and leveling system. You gain skills as you level up both your character and job levels. Your stats don't increase much with levels so you're very dependent on gear. Which you will need plenty of since each job requires a specific weapon be equipped. Money is hard to come by in the beginning so you'll be constantly strapped for cash, unless you play a certain mini game that involves managing a business. When or if you do decide to max out that game, you'll have no money troubles later. I had unlimited cash due to this. The dungeons in this game are so bland and awful.
I'd recommend this game to anyone who likes turn based RPGs.

I love this game, because it’s from the yakuza series or world or whatever you want to call it, but it also has a “turn based” rpg element to it that u don’t often see in yakuza games. Usually, they are “beat em up” types of games and that is great and we all love it, but this one takes it to another level. The graphics are incredible as always. The character models look great. Fights look real and brutal as ever. What makes this one different from the rest is that there are moments in every fight that involve turn based rpg fighting styles. I think the turn based fighting suits this game and separates it from the rest of the yakuza games in a good way

This is a JRPG type game that plays like Dragon Quest. Do not expect classic Yakuza brawler gameplay mechanics. The aesthetics are really cool. It is very Japanese but modern as well. It is a meme machine with lots of fun and amusing side quests, weirdo enemies, and quirky nuances. The story is pretty much a soap opera. It is mainly about the Yakuza, the Japanese Mafia. There are a ton of cut scenes but you get used them. The characters definitely grown on you and you will appreciate how deep the story goes. So far I have put in over 60 hours so you get a lot of content and value. A must buy if you are a Yakuza fan or into JRPG genre games.

YAY is one way of describing Yakuza you would think a game about the Japanese mafia would be dark brooding and serious (like the DC universe or most Western games) but not so! This serious has been anything but....well serious, there is so much crazy wacky fun to be had and this game is no exception. What was once a practical April's fool joke a few years ago turned out to become the new direction of the series. A JRPG that's right with a new main character comes a new way to play the series. And it totally fits trust me you will enjoy this game and the day one edition with the steelbook is fantastic & beautiful.

I got it for about $10, which is a steal. It’s a deviation from the previous Yakuza games (Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami) I played in terms of combat being turned based like Persona or Pokemon but the essence of the games is still there with the wacky side stories and characters. Can’t wait to continue Ichiban’s journey next year!

Yakuza Like a Dragon maybe my favorite game of 2020. A very entertaining cast of characters and story. The turn based RPG gameplay works really well. While this game may be on the top of my list it is not for everyone. You have to be into RPG gameplay like Dragon Quest, a heavy story, and open to quirkiness. The story does not take it self serious. My one complaint is that there is a major difficulty spike around 3/4 of the way through. Other than that I can't wait for the next chapter. They really should make this game into a movie, so that non-gamers can enjoy the story.

I played Yakuza 0-6 last year (2020), and fell in love with the series. So after hearing that Yakuza 7 (Like a Dragon) would be changing from action beat em up fighting, to a turn based JRPG, I was instantly on board with it as I love RPGs of all kinds, but was a little concerned how they would pull it off. Let me just say after putting about 80 hours in this game, all my concerns are put to rest, and this is now not only my favorite Yakuza game, but one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. If you like JRPGs, or like Yakuza at all, do yourself a favor and PLAY THIS.

I am loving this game so far. I’m only 5 hours into this game but the story is really good. The characters are interesting and you what to know what happens next. This game has a lot of style, it is a brand new story so you do not have to play other games in the yakuza series to understand what is going on. It has a turn based battle system which is new to the series but I don’t mind it at all. I could write a lot more but I need to get back to playing. I also got it on sale for 19.99 so I’m happy with my purchase

SteelBook and slipcover is a nice bonus

This review is only regarding the SteelBook copy and not about the game itself. It's a nice bonus to get the slipcover and SteelBook over the standard copy, especially if they're found at the same price. That said, it's really hard to find one with a slipcover in decent condition since it gets crushed in a security case (if you buy it in store) or gets dented up (if you get it shipped).

If you like Dragon Quest consider this the nicest love letter to the series EVER! Lots of great turn-based game play and the mini-games are fun. Pro tip - When you get to the business building part go until you beat it!
