I bought this soundbar because I had a good experience with another Yamaha speaker and I used to have a Yamaha receiver that I really liked to. I am not an audiophile but I've got good ears. After firmware upgrade this Soundbar produces excellent sound fields for some content. As reported by other users, the soundbar has problems with bass tones in spoken speech, with it sometimes swapping between bass tones and not during dialogue. I'm not sure but I think an adjustment of the crossover frequency might work but this is not available either through the Bluetooth app or on the controller. They could have provided that as a dial on the subwoofer itself. I've also had a few instances when the Sound Stage was muddled with the background drowning out the foreground on TV programs. But also in some programs The Sound Stage was amazing, being able to throw sounds behind The Listener. The Soundbar also does not turn on when I turn on the TV. I have to turn it on manually. Wife is not happy with this problem. I'm running the TV using an older HDMI cable that I can't change so maybe that is the problem. Don't bother with the Bluetooth sound connection to the TV. The resulting sound is really compressed and does not compare at all to the band width of the HDMI connection. If you have multiple devices (it only has one HDMI in port) be sure to use the provided Optical sound line. For some reason that skinny little optical fiber provides better connection than a stock optical fiber connection. My advice to Yamaha would be to provide an app that gives more control over the adjustments on the soundbar. I don't mind that the Soundbar doesn't have a lot of controls or feedback from the soundbar but I would like the Bluetooth connected app to provide more control, especially on the subwoofer crossover frequency. That flopping over between base and not base during dialogue is really annoying. Fortunately music from the TV channels is really good.

The speaker worked for 2 songs and then the subwoofer stopped connecting and never would restart. Overall, very disappointing.

Like some others I exchanged this for the Vizio 5.1. If you want true surround sound don't be mislead by reviews. This product doesn't do a good job. Sound quality is no better than the Vizio either and it is more expensive.

Originally looked at the Polk Signa S1, which sounded excellent, and the Sony HTNT5 ( I know, very different soundbar price and performance categories), which was exceptional, but expensive. I have a 24x24 family room and wanted something to complement a 65" Sony Bravia 930e TV. I did not want something that would overtake the room, or shake the entire house, just something that would give great sound when we occasionally have family movie night.
This soundbar split the difference between the two models above nicely. This sound fills the room nicely, and offers reasonably strong bass, but it never overpowers the room. Separation is very good, but the soundbar is not so large that it offers separation as god as the Sony or some of the other premium bars. If you want a full on sonic assault, get the sony HTNT5, or a more premium bar from another brand.
Overall, this is a well balanced bar in terms of sound, and offers excellent sound reproduction, and some extra but not overpowering bass. It is probably the best choice for overall sound clarity in the sub $500 range, and if is certainly loud enough for any movies we've thrown at it in our decently large family room.
I did find the simulated surround mode (needs firmware update on earlier models to achieve this) hit or miss, some movies and music it helped, others it seemed to garble the sound.
This unit delivers great sounding music, TV, and movie soundtracks.
Strong but not overpowering bass.
Compact overall size.
Seems to deliver overall performance that exceeds the cost of the system.
If you want more overall power, get the sony HTNT5, if you want more pounding bass, try the JBL cinema or 3.1 bar, and if you are on a tighter budget or have a smaller space and want great sound, try the Polk signa S1 .
I am very happy with this bar, but I think any of the above would suit all but the most fanatic audiophiles.

Tried all of the work-arounds, woofer never connected to the main speaker, and there's no hard-wire back up option, bringing it back. :o(

Got this to pair with my new Sony X900F and Apple TV 4k. I have the ATV hooked into the soundbar and the soundbar to the TV. The sound this thing makes is very good. The one downside is that you have to spend some time fiddling with the different modes to arrive at the sound you like. For instance, I keep the DTS surround and bass extension with clear voice on for movies and TV, but for music I switch to stereo with no clear voice. I'm really happy with how it sounds. For those saying dialogue is unclear, I'd bet they just haven't found the setting that works best yet. I'd highly recommend this unit.

Replaced a Vizio 5.1 soundbar that died after 14-mo. Did my research to find a company that backs their products and discovered this New Yamaha YAS-207 sound bar that claims 3d sound and backs it up with a great sound with better separation. You will not be disapointed

Poor Dialog

We have this Yamaha YAS-207 BL connected to HDMI Port 1 on our Vizio M55-E0 using an HDMI High-Speed Cable. Then we have another HDMI High Speed Cable going from our Dish Hopper 3 to the Input on the YAS-207 BL.
Vizio M55-E0 Audio Setting: Auto or PCM depending on our mood.
YAS-207 Settings: Surround Sound, HDMI, Clear Voice.
Subwoofer Setting - 4 or 0 depending on what we are watching.
HDMI Arc works great right out of the box.
We placed the subwoofer next to the TV stand with the soundbar so they are maybe 2 feet apart from each other.
At first the sound blew me away when upgrading from a really basic Vizio 2.0 soundbar that was wired to an old Sony Subwoofer making it a 2.1 setup. It can produce a much wider frequency range and where some sound effects with the old soundbar would get muddled this handled them with ease.
We first started noticing the dialog problems when actors with any significant amount of bass in their voices began speaking at medium to low volume level settings. The dialog will jump from the soundbar to the subwoofer and then back again in the same scene which makes it sound like the actors voice is jumping around the room. This issue persists in Stereo Mode or Surround Sound Mode on TV and movies.
The dialog problem persisted on the Dish Hopper, Chrome Cast and any apps on the Vizio TV such as Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu, Youtube, etc...
Vocals felt very small requiring high amounts of volume until we would either switch the Vizio Audio to PCM only or disable Dolby Digital and Volume Leveling on the Dish Hopper. This greatly improved treble and voices became easier to hear when the volume was low but comes at the cost of commercials playing louder than some TV shows and missing some sound effects.
Cranking the volume watching a movie as some other reviewers suggest will really let this soundbar sing and it produces excellent overall sound in that situation. But when you are trying to watch something late a night with family in bed it's sometimes easier to switch to Analog and use the TV speakers.
We didn't notice the dialog issue until it was past the 14 day return period otherwise this would have gone back to the store.
Contacted Yamaha for support regarding the dialog problems and they advised there is no permanent fix since the crossover is set extremely high on this model and cannot be modified. The only solution to mitigate the problem is to enable Clear Voice and set the subwoofer to the lowest setting which is -4. Again this does not resolve the problem.
We tested different HDMI Cables and Optical just to be sure before contacting Yamaha.
I am disappointed that the company never tested, discovered or decided to fix the dialog issues when testing this product before public release. Since most people are purchasing a soundbar to upgrade from their TV speakers or simplify their setup I do not suggest getting this product unless you can keep the volume high. In that situation you may still encounter the dialog problems so I would really suggest testing it out before committing to make sure you can live with it.

Super easy to setup, love the HDMI ARC. Everything is perfect. I just expected a little more bass i guess. But definitely worth it as this price point

This sound bar system isn't cheap at all. The sound from the bar is ok, aceptable, nothing crazy but i can live with that. The sub is the problem, when ur watching movies i can definitely hear the sub , nothing crazy but i know is there . When playing music it sounds really bad, like a really cheap sub, distortion , weird noises , it does not work like a good sub woofer. I had a Polk Audio Sub psw111 and it sounded way better than this Yamaha. Sent the sub for warranty cos the pop/distortion noises and they replaced it with a new one , i just tried it and exactly the same thing is happening. Im not happy , i expected way more quality.

This worked great at first (bought it when it first came out, then about 2 months ago, I had to start cranking up the volume to hear anything at all. I can't, in good conscience, recommend it
