HD radio is great. Rhapsody, Air Play, all the latest movie sound track decoders. Easy setup with YPAO. Plenty of power and runs just warm to the touch. Up to 9.2 channels. Multiple scene setups make it easy to push one button to watch a blu ray, watch cable, listen to net music, or HD radio. Many more setup options available.

I was looking to upgrade my 80's pre-hdmi AV receiver with something that could handle just about anything I asked from it, including serving as a audiophile-like 2- channel system. Realizing this was a tall order, I took my time to research AV receivers that had enough power to handle hungry 2-channel tower audiophile speakers and also serve the home theater appetite. After doing my research, it was clear that most AV receivers are not really suitable for both tasks. But I have to say, the Yamaha RX-A2040 is a strong contender to handle both the AV home theater and also serving as a respectable 2-channel audio-only amplifier. This receiver is capable of producing a stunning home theater experience as well as providing a solid, balanced, natural soundstage to enjoy 2-channel high fidelity music.
I've had the receiver for about a month, and have tested it with a variety of music. In the Pure Direct mode, my speakers initially sound a little weak. But I realized that I had been using the built-in equalizer in my old receiver for years and was used to the altered sound it produced. After retraining myself to listen to music without the equalization, it now sounds much better balanced. The RX-A2040 does have a built-in parametric equalizer that you can program to distort the true sound, but with Pure Direct, you get a truly pure sounding experience. It has the signature Yamaha natural sound with very balanced mid-tones. This is what I was hoping for in a receiver, and at 140 watts, this receiver rocks. My speakers with 12'' woofers can handle just about anything I can throw at them, and this receiver can rattle the rafters. Power to spare with this receiver, and no distortion that I can notice.
Some of the features I really like come from the wireless capability. The AV remote App is very well designed and gives me complete control of all inputs. From my chair I can select any input, adjust many of the sound parameters, and even access my music network wirelessly. Access to internet radio stations all over the world opens up so many options. HD radio built in to the Yamaha RX-A2040 is absolutely fantastic. FM radio never sounded this good. I am a vinyl lover and the built-in phono amp works great. The build quality appears to be very high and the receiver has a very high-end look with two substantial control knobs on the front panel. The left input selector has a smooth, soft feel to the clicks that signal a change of inputs. It took some time to adjust to the volume knob. It has a little resistance and takes a lot of turns to bring the volume up. At first it seemed as if the overall system was hesitant to come up to volume, until I realized that the volume knob is very high resolution, giving the user a fine level of adjustment. This is what you want for volume, so you can find just the right volume without worrying about blowing your ears out from sudden changes. Overall, I think this receiver delivers: it is a very sophisticated, powerful system, with a vast array of useful wireless features, stunning Dolby Atmos for the home theater, Pure Direct mode for the purist, natural tone for the vinyl lover, and a great wireless remote app.

I was very hesitant to purchase a receiver at this price but I have no regrets. upgraded from an RX1800 Yamaha and glad I did. Wanted a 3D receiver and this meet my needs and more. Setup was easy but there is a lot more to it than I was prepared for. you can do the easy setup which is good but tweaked a few things and now sound is awesome. Highly recommend....Remote is probably biggest weakness but not bad enough to drop the rating

I purchased this as a year end closeout from the Magnolia Home Theater of Best Buy. It replaces a very nice 7 channel Onkyo 805 that has run my 7.1, front projection, home theater for many years. I upgraded to this receiver to take advantage of the 9 channel speakers and Dolby Atmos technology. I now run a 7.1.2 system and love it. Dolby Atmos is well worth the upgrade cost and this 2040 produces excellent sound quality. I am hearing dialogue and sound effects never heard before on some of my most favorite shows.
Set up and customization of this 2040 is very simple with the on screen system. I'll be keeping this Yamaha for many years to come.

Yamaha is a much superior product compared to pioneer , easy to set up, user friendly, powerful, crisp sound. Great for music and movies. Do not waste your time with other brands. I've returned pioneer, because it just did not work, not user friendly , customer service was horrible and it was much inferior to the Yamaha. Just speaking from my own personal experience .Yamaha is quality and I would only recommend this brand!!

Very happy with my purchase. I laid out the extra bucks to get the 2040. It was actually easy to hear the difference in sound quality from the 1040 to the 2040. One of my reasons for getting a new receiver was the integrated airplay. It is great that I can just start my music up on my computer and the receiver turns on and switches to airplay by itself. The one "downside" I have found is that you are not able to airplay video only audio. (maybe a software upgrade for airplay video - that would be great) One feature that is well worth noting is the hdmi passthrough for both video and sound to the tv when the receiver is not on. Then it goes one further and allows you to switch the passthrough source by pressing the source you want on the remote without turning on the unit. Great for my spouse. Many other good features too like being able to program what speakers you want to use for different sources etc. So overall I would give it around a 4.7 out of 5. So stop thinking about it and buy it.

Overall; great product. Very happy with it. I've read lots of reviews on different receivers and decided to go with the Yamaha - AVENTAGE 1260W 9.2-Ch. Lots of power. The only annoying issue is: When playing music plugging a drive in the USB port, it plays a few songs, then revert back to the menu screen. Other that that, everything else about the product is Outstanding.

I got all my needs met with this receiver. Clear clean sound for price. My 10 year old Marantz SR 8400 went out so I got this one to replace it with 4 UHD and 3D-pass through. Very satisfied.

I highly recommend this Receiver. You will have a hard time finding a better one for the price. If you have some extra cash to spend, i recommend getting the fully surround speakers in order to fully use the Atmos as it is incredible. Not a ton of moves our music out there yet that is encoded with Atmos but if you go to their site, you will see that a lot is coming.

I went to our local BB to buy some speaker wire and came home with this receiver too. Thought a Yamaha Aventage 20xx series would be out of my budget but BB gave me a offer I couldn't refuse. The receiver is an upgrade from a RX-V475 and it is a noticeable upgrade. The sound through this receiver is fuller and clearer. I have it setup as a Dolby Atmos 5.2.4 and couldn't be happier.

I've had a few Yamaha receivers in my day and this one is great! It sounds amazing and the up-conversion to 4k looks great! Overall This is an awesome product. The set up GUI is simple and easy to manage. Before this one I had steered towards a Pioneer Elite and I'm so happy to be back with Yamaha!

Running with all Martin Logan speakers all around. Although this receiver does not have the wattage as the comparable Denon (which I had previous to this (denon 3312c)) for some reason, this amp is a bit more clear with the highs.
I like this amp...and would purchase again.

The Yamaha has a great sound and is easy to setup. I wish the speaker outputs could connect to the standard banana plugs . I have had a problem with the unit overloading and shutting off if i push the volume too much. Not sure if it is the speakers (Bose) or not. I might try the unit with my larger JBL's and see what happens.

It is every thing that I expected it would be. Such a big improvement from my older Yamaha receiver that I owned. The sound and picture quality were a big improvement. I think Best Buy and Yamaha sell and make a great product.

Love all of the features that come with this receiver, like HD radio, Pandora, etc. I ran speaker wire directly into the receiver and couldn't get my speakers to work. The Best Buy consultant recommended trying banana clips and that did the trick. The other thing I would recommend is to use the microphone that comes with the speaker to calibrate the speakers. Sounded so much better after I did this. I have had this receiver for 3 months now and all is good!!
