I didn't expect too much in sound quality for a receiver with the multitude of capabilities that this one has. It is definitely state of the art. Yes it is 5.1, but so is my speaker setup. And streaming speed comes up 2.5 ghz for me. I do not see a 5 ghz option. Again, not a problem for me, as my router is a bit of a distance and 2.5 ghz is what I would have to use anyway. I love the sound it produces. No one that hears it will believe what you paid for it.

Our older model Yamaha receiver started giving us problems after being used mostly 24/7 since 2004, so we found this model on sale as a replacement. The newer features are excellent, and even with the old surround sound speakers, the sound quality is great. I am very happy with my decision to purchase this product. I wish I had bought another one to replace the older model Yamaha receiver in our bedroom as well. Great value for the price!

This is my 4th yamaha receiver and every time I upgrade I am impressed even more. I have never had to upgrade due to a failure or any issues with the sound. I upgraded this time to get the hdcp 2.2 required for my 4k roku. The network features are handy and the android and iPad apps are both east to use. I have been using yamaha receivers for 20 years and plan on using them for the next 20 if they stay this good.

Love the receiver . Great for the price. Only complaint is the wifi stops and the receiver has to be reset.

I didn't realize what I was missing on TV until I bought this item and Geek Squad installed it. I wanted to use some pre-installed speakers that were available in the TV room of my home I recently purchased and enhance the volume of my TV that was installed in a custom built TV shelf. The sound is very good and I am enjoying TV a lot more. This also helped me add a HDMI port to the whole system.

It met all of our expectations! Very happy with the product.

Nice receiver clear sound good bass very easy connection and working

I bought this receiver as a replacement for an older Pioneer receiver that was on the fritz. This particular receiver happened to be on sale and was such a good deal it was hard to pass up. Previous reviews were positive so I bought this as an upgrade. It was very simple to set up. My surround sound speakers sound better than ever before.

I bought this due to a reputation for quality that Yamaha has built. I have gone through a few onkyos and have decided that I'm done with them for a while(RUN TOO HOT AND FAIL). The only real down side to the yamas is the interface, it's not the most user friendly of the major companies.

Read much on the internet about quality problems with competing manufacturers. Admittedly, i know all brands have good and bad manufacturing runs, but yamaha seems to have more good ones than bad ones. this product is missing key features for the A/V obsessed. i'm not. i'm music obsessed (but poor); music reproduction is in another world compared to the 10-year old yamaha receive which this rx-a550 replaces. for that alone, buy it. it doesn't have hdr or some other vid stuff, but that's what a 4k player is for, and by the time 4k tv and players are reasonably priced, we'll replace the tv and bluray player, negating problems of the avr not having 4k hdr pass through, and etc. so, if you love music and really enjoy movies, get this receiver. problems i've read on other forums/posting site are due to user error; users need to read very carefully before setting this thign up, and that is common to ALL contemporary av receivers: it's not 2000 anymore folks.

I wanted to upgrade the receiver in my existing 5.1 setup. This fit the bill quite nicely. Easy setup. Only complaint is it could use more power. If I factor in the price I paid (almost 50% off MSRP), it gets 5 stars.
