- I own this receiver for 1 month - bought it as an open box for a good price. Everything works great except for the phono entry (comments below). The built-in Bluetooth works great and the sound is much better than my old Yamaha along with a Bluetooth adapter. I also love the auto power-off function (when I turn off / on my smart-TV, the receiver automatically turns off / on). It took me a while to adjust the bass and treble to my liking, but after that, it was great - By the way, the setup process is not that easy but I already knew that because I had another Yamaha receiver.
- I have an Audio Technica AT-LP120 and set it up properly (without using its preamp function) and the sound is a bit bad and the volume stays too low - I don't know if there's anything wrong with my set up, but I didn't like the sound's quality - I expected much more!

I had a older version of this Yamaha but I had to update to HDMI and this is certainly one great option. The transition was easy, all speakers were easy to install, the mic programing was easy. The sound quality is amazing on my 7.2 channel Dolby Surround system. It was a great buy.

This does it all. Had a problem in the past with not enough HDMI ports on tv, NO PROBLEM with this receiver, 6 ports to input anything I have. WiFi and Bluetooth. App to put on my phone with all the remote functions. Streaming radio. This has it all. Put music on USB drive, plug it in and play your music collection. Hi-res music, this does it all. Very happy.

Works perfectly for me. I don't have the budget for a very expensive system and speakers, so my 3.1 system is stuff I've cobbled together over the years. Previously, I had an old Integra receiver that served me well for years despite lack of HDMI. Having 4K passthrough is convenient. Audio is crisp, the bluetooth functions work great (I previously used a Chromecast audio for podcasts), and I've not had any problems whatsoever. Setup was pretty easy and the power output is just right for my speakers. A phono connection is nice too for my turntable. Overall I am happy with my purchase.

This is my second Yamaha receiver and have to say they've come a long way in 15 years. Im using it to power my 5.1.2 surround system with Sonance speakers and it delivers plenty of power and clean sound. If you're looking to do more than 5.2.2 surround, you may want to carefully review the specs to see if it will serve your needs. YPAO mic setup is a snap and it took little fine tuning for the room after running the setup to produce accurate, rich, sound.

I had already bought another Yamaha Wi-Fi capable receiver for my family room and fell in love with the quality and features of that receiver so when I finally got my 4K TV that I originally bought it for, I couldn't stomach moving it from the family room so I bought another and upgraded a little to this model. Both are now used constantly, whether watching TV, movies, or just streaming music from my NAS drive.

We purchased this to replace an old Onkyo home theater surround sound receiver that was too old to work with current HDMI connections. We purchased it with an LG C8 television and connected it to hard wired Infinity speakers. The system sounds great, has plenty of power and works well with a Harmony Smart integrated remote.

I bought this to upgrade my 7 year old Yamaha. Has all the features needed for modern AV equipment. 4K pass through upgraded the picture and sound. My RTi series Polk speakers sound fuller and brighter. The bluetooth plays music directly through the receiver with amazing sound quality. Add a large selection of streaming radio stations built in for a great sound package.

This receiver does it all. it will upscale 1080p video to 4K resolution. It has video over standby passthrough. Which lets you watch TV, Blu-Rays or play games and use your other HDMI connected devices without having the receiver on through the 4 HDMI inputs. it has built in WiFi, internet music apps and is firmware upgradeable. Plus Bluetooth, AirPlay, Spotify Connect and MusicCast multi-room. Works with Amazon AlexaThe USB port plays audio files like MP3's wave files at upto 32 bit 192K hertz. It also plays DSD (Direct Stream Digital) 64, 128 and 256 DSF files from the USB port. It plays Super Audio CD's at up to 11.2 Mega Hertz. It also does Dolby Atmos which sounds great when Usoing Dolby Atmos bitstreaming on my Xbox One X and it also does DTSX audio when using presence speakers. It does HDR 10, Dolby vision, Hybrid Log-Gamma and BT.2020. Yamaha will be adding eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) with a future firmware upgrade. This reveiver will complete anybodys home theater expeirence. It is a great buy for your money and even works with wireless surround speakers.

Sometimes there's no beating a traditional home sound system centered on an Audio Video Receiver. There is a considerable amount of time one must dedicate to set up, however. After using the microphone to tune your speakers, you'll still need to go into the speaker setup menu to do some fine tuning. This is very different from a soundbar, where you just plug it in and turn it on. Speaking of, I returned a Samsung soundbar (Q90) for this AVR. And I think the soundbar sounded a bit scrisper. This could be because the sound bar is tuned to sound it's best with the included speakers. I purchased some Klipsch Reference speakers, which surprisingly don't sound all that great. But this brings me to my principal reason for buying an AVR, upgradability. In the future I plan to upgrade the speakers and add a pair of height speakers for ATMOS sound.
Additionally, the MusicCast app is pretty good. It's the primary app I use to play music. Oh, 7 Channel Stereo sound is pretty awesome. There is some cleaver tuning going on here. I thought it would simply at a pair of left and right channel speakers but surprisingly is the mode separates certain sounds for the surround speakers so you get the main focus of the sound strack still coming from the front left and right channels.

Great 7.2 setup. I especially like the bluetooth send so I can use my Bose Noise cancelling for late night movies/sports. I would say that they need an RF remote instead of IR but it is not that inconvenient. I think the price is slightly higher than it should be but overall good value.

Easy set up for 58 y/o geezer. Son-in-law programmed my Apple TV remote and I push one button and I'm where I want to be 90% of the time. I have a Yamaha integrated amp for music, but I am very impressed with the 7 channel stereo sound from the A680. Better than the theater, and my 54 year old popcorn maker makes better popcorn than the theater--and its cheap. Life is good.

I am a big fan of Yamaha receivers. I decided to upgrade my Marantz 1403 5.1 receiver. I initially went with the Yamaha RX-485 5.1 receiver. I have one of those in our exercise room. Sounds great. After purchasing this for my living room, I thought that I would expand the number of speakers from 5.1 to 7.1. I returned the RX-485 and purchased this RX-A680. Just the addition of the extra speakers and the ability to play Dolby Atmos is a giant plus. The set up on this receiver is straight forward and easy. It has the Yamaha sound that I really enjoy, plus extra functionality. Overall, very satisfied with the upgrade of this purchase.

The receiver itself is great. Exceeded my expectations. It was easy to set up and has a very nice interface to work with. The problem with this is if you want to use the Alexa assistant or the MusicCast app. Getting this part set up was a pain to say the least, and worse is there is no manual on how to do so. No youtube video, no pdf downloadable from Yamaha website, no physical pamphlet in the box. I managed to finally get it set up, but not without frustration. Yamaha would be smart to put a more in depth instruction on their website and/or put up a youtube video showing how to. Would have been 5 stars, but since I bought this for its ease to use with Alexa, I had to give it only 4 for the frustration

First, you have to be savvy enough to want/appreciate passive soundbar (go surroundbar) to be in the market. Then, you have to be smart enough to know your limitations, so you do not overspend on A/V receiver with Soundbar, Powered Sub, surround speakers and more on the horizon. This unit powers my LG Nanocell 9 75" TV, Def Tech Mythos SSA50 (a beast), Martin Logan Dynamo 500, Def Tech 9080 (2) and cablebox displayed on Bell'O PR45 console. Nice!
