I've read a lot of reviews that say this is complicated or difficult to set up or operate. I've had zero problems. I went from a Pioneer receive to this one. The sound quality of this receiver is unbelievable. I absolutely love the sound output!
Back to the set up. It's all on screen set up and it has a mic that you can run to have the system auto calibrate. I'm absolutely stumped on how others had so much difficulty. I was actually expecting this to be more complicated, it's not. Now, there are a lot of features and options, however, these are still not any different than any new receiver. There's wifi and Bluetooth, etc, but again the setup menu walks you through it. If you're on the fence because of some that say this is too complicated, it's just not. It's a receiver, so if you have any basic knowledge of home theater, you won't have any issues at all.
Great buy!

I tried two Yamaha receivers an neither one worked right. Wouldn’t play my DirecTV signal or 4K DVD player. I tried everything I coul think of to make this would that shouldn’t have been necessary!

i READ excellent reviews on this product. I went to the store to buy it on sale and was told it was a higher price. I walked out of the store, leaving the Receiver in the store. The next month i received a bill charged for the receiver, I rushed up to the store and complain that I didnot take the receiver out the store, and why was the charge? I asked for a manager, Little did I know this was an assistant manager. Howver he asked me what was the problem, I repeated the situation and he said no problem, give me the date and time he said? After about 25 minutes, he came back and said he could do nothing about rebating the money, because he saw me walk out the door with the Yamaha Receiver on Camera. I was shocked and stunted and embrassed. I asked a cashier who was the District manager? She said she didn't know but Joe was the Store Director and wouldn't be in until Saturday. I went back to the store on Saturday told Joe everything including that I had been accused of taking the Receiver out of the store. Lo and behold the guy who took the receiver to the front and the cashier whom I didnot pay was there! And the two of them both confirm to Joe that I had not taken the Receiver from the store. AL even told Joe, he himself had restocked the Receiver. I was so happy my eyes teared up. Here I am, a retiree from the Texas State penal System and being accused of stealing a Receiver. Some day I will buy that Yamaha Receiver but I have not as of yet and that has been two or three years ago. There are some good honest people at Best Buy. But beware some of their managers, will lie and tell you to your face! With sincerity: I saw you on CAMERA took a Receiver out the store door. I thought about calling the police to verify his lie, however my mind said no, don't do that, just wait on Joe. I am so happy I did. Joe rebated the charges and said he would talk to that manager. P.S. I have a Yamaha Receiver 5.1 I have had for over 18 years.

confusing to operate

I have and still own two other Yamahas with no set-up problem, this receiver is confusing to operate. The description of it on BestBuy says it contains a manual, no...it is a quick set up only, you must go online to get the full manual and it is long and hard to understand. I think it may have been written in Chinese and translated...badly. It shows a photo of the front of the receiver that says ATMOS, the description reads ATMOS but that word is only mentioned once, from then on it's Dolby sound this and Dolby sound that plus DTS without another mention of ATMOS. Maybe a really good geek could figure out how to set this thing up but I have given up and now have a really bad case of buyers remorse.
