This receiver is an absolutely amazing purchase. The sound quality and features it comes with is absolutely amazing. I used to have a Yamaha rx v483 receiver and upgraded to this and wow, it really stands out. This receiver literally does it all. It will have every single feature you could want out of a receiver. I have 4 Polk S60 towers and a Polk s35 center channel speaker running 4 klipsch rp500sa upfiring dolby atmos speakers and a klipsch spl120 subwoofer in a 5.1.4 configuration and it powers everything beautifully. If I play music at - 20 dbs it's loud to the point where your neighbors would hear it, and that's after serious soundproofing and sound deadening in my room. This setup I have sounds better than any home theater at any store as well as any movie theater I have ever been in. 100% clarity, 0% distortion, 100% fidelity on all output levels. If you are new to the audio game, the setup I just gave you that I have is literally the perfect balance of 100% fidelity with 100% loudness, as the Polk tower speakers have a terylene dome tweeter and the klipsch atmos speakers have a much higher efficiency rating VS the Polk tweeters translating to immersive and loud audio without any compromise in fidelity and clarity. My setup is just under being too bright with the highs and the lows from the towers and sub are perfect. This receiver not only obliterates expectations in the music category, gaming and movies will sound unbelievably good as well. You will hear things you've never noticed in movies with this receiver. My last piece of advice, if you are ready to make a big step in the audio game and are already looking to drop 1200+, go all the way and get this. I was looking at the a1080 and the a2080 version of this, but I decided to just go big and get this beast, and sure enough, it was worth it. The extra power as well as features cannot be beaten, especially at this price range. My favorite feature of this?, the fact that I can open Spotify on my phone and play music directly through the app instead of Bluetooth, so the raw file is going to the receiver via wifi instead of Bluetooth, you can turn the receiver on even via Spotify on wifi. That is a win win. Oh and I am running a ac infinity t9 fan on top of it to keep it cool with live temperature monitoring.

1 Month review:
I have owned this for a month now and it replaces a Denon x4300h to drive my Martin Logan setup with front ESLs. (nothing wrong with the Denon moved it elsewhere).
Pros:
1. Great sounding receiver specially when playing stereo
2. Probably one of the best Mobile Apps to control the unit
3. Sound programs are a very nice feature - lets me suit my listening based on varied content
4. I have begun to like Surround AI - specially for movies
Cons:
1. YPAO - Not the best - however, if you are ready to spend some time tweaking the settings - you can get a great sounding system
2. When driving more than 5 channels - it does run out of headroom - getting an amplifier to drive the front (and center if possible) will make a ton of difference
3. Does run a little hot (recommend to have a well ventilated setup or add an aircom cooling system)
So.. why still the 5 "STARTS" - At this price it is impressive. I have run Denon x6500h and a close friend with a similar setup uses a Marantz sr7012 and this one really performs at par if not better (and is at a lower price point). So save up on some $$ and invest on a seperate amp (there are balanced connections for front speakers)

A great audiophile option in it's price range

To be honest, what I wanted was high-end video pre-amp, but the models I liked started at $6k, not including the cost of additional amplifiers. I spent a lot of time researching possible alternatives and concluded that this was the best option I could afford. As Yamaha's flagship video receiver, it offers many features more common to audiophile separates. The fact that it has 11.2 channels but only 9 amplifiers is not by accident - Yamaha intends for it to be used in a hybrid arrangement with at least one stereo amplifier. All eleven channels and two subwoofer outputs are available as pre-amp outputs, with the front two channels available as the preferred balanced, DIN outputs favored as inputs to high-end stereo amps. All eleven channels area also available as amplified outputs for direct hookup to speakers, but only 9 are active at any time. As the specs are based on only 2 speakers driven, however, it probably isn't up to the task of driving speakers on all 9 amplified channels.
Currently I have a 6.1 setup with two external amps (both Parasound Halo A23s), 3 pair of KEF LS50 speakers and an SVS SB2000 amplified sub. I plan to add front presence (Atmos) speakers later this year, also driven by the Yamaha. The Yamaha blends surprisingly well with the Parasounds, creating a very realistic home theater experience. The sound is very natural and not at all distorted. The simulated surround sound DSP works well, although simulating the sound of a cathedral in a small Manhattan apartment is perhaps a bit pretentious.
I'm often tempted to knock off a point for a remote control that's needlessly complex, but the one supplied is surprisingly intuitive for one with so many functions. The buttons are laid-out well, making it fairly easy to find them in a dark room. Clearly, most options are meant to be accessed using the apps on a smart phone. Unfortunately, there are three separate apps - one for setup, one for controlling the receiver and one for setting up multi-room sound - and it's almost important to get away from using all of them. In my book, that's poor planning. Another thing that's confusing is that some of the settings are different on the remote and on the app. To me, consistency is important.
My one other gripe is that the only option for Mac users is Airplay 1 and not 2. This is fine for 16-48k audio, but it lacks any video options. Granted, there are much better options than Airplay and there are other hardware and software options. However, a receiver this advanced should have included a full implementation of Airplay 2.
All of that said, setup is fairly easy for a device so complex. I haven't had a chance to try out the automatic setup function based on microphone measurements, but manual setup is pretty straight-forward, with enough options to handle virtually any speaker arrangement. I'm not easily impressed, but the Aventage 9.2-Ch home theater receiver managed to do so.

I only had one issue with this unit. That is the size of it. Measure out where you will place this unit. Its big and heavy! Make sure it will fit. You will need speakers that are modern day technically advanced. The Atoc Dolby and such will only function and sound great with High end speakers. The unit is 1999.00 so be ready to buy those speakers that are pricey. I paired it up with definative technology BL9060 series speakers. Otherwise this unit will handle anything you can operate through it. Bluetooth ..wireless..wired...CD...IPod..anything. 9 channel sound?. Your ears will loooove it!

An impressive unit for the price. It definitely overdelivers across the board. Additionally, if you’re looking for a unit to use for music listening in addition to home theatre, this is a great choice. The sound quality is excellent. It also packs plenty of punch - not to mention lots of preset and programmability options. That being said, it does kick up a lot of heat, so if you’re looking to house in an enclosed space, I highly recommend purchasing a fan (like one of the AC Infinity Aircom models) to make sure things run nice and cool to properly maintain the unit. All in all, it’s a beast of a unit.

This thing is just awesome! The WiFi enabled app that works as a remote control can change your life! I cannot say enough good things about the remote, because you can adjust the subwoofer level on the fly without going into any menus from the app, which is so useful when your sources are recorded with drastically different bass levels, such as switching from an action movie with too much bass to a music recording made in the 1980's with too little bass... Sound quality is top notch with very extended high frequency response. On top of all that, this is the only one on the market with multi band parametric equalizers! This thing also has main right and left XLR inputs and outputs! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this receiver! Please do not stop making products like this Yamaha! If this one ever breaks down, I am definitely getting another of the same from Yamaha!

So far so good. This isn't 8k like all the other major brands like denon, sony, and marantz but seriously there's no 8k source material right now and I've heard negatives from those as well. After much research I bought this and using it with a 9.2 dolby atmos systems comprised of bowers and wilkins. Watts per channel on this were better then the competition and it gets loud! The setup on here is very user friendly and has plenty of tweaking capabilities for the enthusiast. Plus this has XLR inputs for getting left and right channels like you would get using a component recieved, so you get a little of both worlds. To run it like that you would need a 2 channel amp for front L&R but that would give you more wattage to spread between the other non component channels (don't quote me on this but I'm guessing), and for sure will give you extra wattage for the front L&R.

Replaced my old Bryston SP 1.7 surround processor. A huge improvement for surround sound. Not using the internal amps, but sounds great as a preamp. Didn’t want to spend the extra $ on the Yamaha 5200 processor, so went with this and am very happy. Video switching is good quality. The surround setup function worked great and made a huge improvement. I really like the AI function as well- I leave the AI on full time and sounds great. Bypass feature is also great so no need to always have receiver on. Just wish the multicast could be used for height and not just rear surround.

Extremely happy with the 3080. More than enough power to run an amazing immersive 9.1 atoms system as well as remind the neighbors that I am not sorry. Set up was easy. Love the AI surround sound setting & 9 channel stereo . Best phone app I have seen for audio equipment. Can jump from surround to 9 Channel stereo in seconds, as well as control other zones, including party mode and tweak settings. By far best value most useful features of the flagship AVRs.

All I can say is, Wow!!
This paired with my Martin Logan SLM XL fronts and center and definitive promonitor surrounds for a 5.1.4 Atmos system. Sounds like a movie theater in my house! Absolutely amazing. Passes the wife test, too. Replaced a Marantz SR5010. Night and day difference from a 7.1 to a 5.1,4 Atmos setup. The Yamaha AI seems to make a great difference. Sounds best leaving it on. Used the YPAO for room correction. This seems to have worked great too. Love this receiver!!

Where to begin. Build quality is incredibly solid. Weighs quite a bit and has a demanding appearance on the rack with the rest of my equipment. Plenty of power to drive my 5.1.4 setup. Excels at 2 channel audio. The quality dacs give a lovely warm sound that Almost makes it sound like you're at a live concert. This reciever is driving my def tech 9040 and an svs pb3000 along with the rest of the speakers however my favorite thing to do with this is listen to flac files.

Hi, I'm an owner since 2009 of an YAMAHA A/V RX-V3067 7.2CH which I use with 2 amps Harman Kardon to become a 11.2 ch. I know everything about YAMAHA receiver and I decided to buy a new one with 11.2ch. Since YAMAHA does not have, I tested The Marantz SR8012 (powerfull but I dind't like the visual), DENON AVRX8500H ( to expensive) and thePIONEER SCLX901( which was ok but the sound was amazing) .All these 3 A/V has price over $2.000. So I decided to buy this RX-A3080. About the sound of every speaker: waht a huge difference from the previous V3067, the sound is clear, powerful and you can hear every music note. The setup of GAIN/Q FACTOR/ FREQUENCY for every sepaker is easy ,and the surrounds make a lot of difference. The A1 is a sound state of art . To experience all this features you must have premium speakers. I have 2 YAMAHA bookshelf (180w rms) for front, 4 JBL (110 Wrms) for surrounds), 4 HARMAN KARDON (100w rms) for front speaker presence, 2 YAMAHA (100wrms) for rear speaker presence and 1 CENTER HARMAN KARDON (300w rms). If you want to experience clear sound you must have this YAMAHA RX-A3080

POWERHOUSE for Driving High RMS/Sensitivity Spkers

Had to return another AVR because I didn't understand RMS/watts per channel and it was under-powered. Not this unit it is easily driving 7.1.2 set of Klipsch speakers. Now we are getting the sound we expected from them. The YPAO calibration gave very accurate readings/settings and blended the R820's to the sub wonderfully. I'm using a set of R-51-M for surround and they were set to large by YPAO and now they sound great! The sound is buttery smooth and evenly distributed just by running YPAO! We are going to use those settings for now. We got rid of the last AVR after a lot of tweeking so good riddance to that! Front height are Klipsch Atmos speakers sitting on top of the fronts. YPAO accurately measured the distance to the ceiling and we are getting great ATMOS effects when everyone we know said we would need in ceiling speakers. So the PROS are: easy speaker setup and calibration although the speaker outputs are arranged strangely IMO. Good clean power - never a click or pop. The sound AI makes our room with a 20 ft+ ceiling sound perfect! Good music although I would have liked a multi speaker stereo. There are features galore maybe I missed it. I was so glad to just setup and start enjoying it. I would also have liked more direct access to which speakers are active etc for a transparent on screen display.
One BIG gotcha you must be aware of - this unit is very DEEP - 18-5/8” without measuring how the speaker outputs protrude AND if you add banana plugs and wire bundles!!! 25 inches easy! and it also has rear rabbit ear WIFI antennas you have to account for in some way. I cut a well measured rectangle out of the back of our media center so about 2-3 inches of receiver, the outputs, banana plugs etc are outside the cabinet. (It was that or authorize a living room re-decoration). I bought a cooling fan just in case but that's another review.
Most importantly I believe I got what I paid for in this product! It is a high quality build down to the remote. The user interface and programming methodology is top drawer.

So...an expensive receiver for sure. That being said, you get what you pay for. This is easy to set up and calibrate, and the sound (KEF Speakers) is just incredible. It's big, and it's heavy, I had to cut out the back of my TV stand...but I gladly did it for great sound.
