Perfect hub for my new 4K HDR television and 4K blue ray media streaming unit. Replaced a 13 year old Yamaha A/V that has served me flawlessly but needed connection workarounds as it does not have any HDMI connections and does not support 4K pass through, Dolby Atmos, internet, 7.2 and blue tooth to name just some of the features that are part of the RX A860.
Simple speaker wiring and 3 HDMI cables ties my set top, tv, Blue Ray devices. Simple speaker balancing via Yamaha’s auto programming.
Great video and audio and every feature works as expected.

The new 860 aventage is a great reciever for the price range. This unit so far has exceeded my expectations. However you should note that with all speakers driven, this unit only puts out 35 watts per channel. If you are running small speakers, this unit will make them scream. If they are large, you will want to add amplification. Yamaha makes it easy with preamp outs for 7 channels. And you get the flexibility of 2 sub outs. They are preamp as well. If you are still on the fence, stop by audioholics website and read their reviews. Its been a great unit for me so far, owned it for about a month. I had no issuse with wifi or Bluetooth connection. Other reviewers may be technically challenged. If this is your price range you cant go wrong.

Replace an Integra DTR 30.6 with this unit. It's sounds incredible with a very easy setup. The Atmos / DTSX thing is overrated. But rather have it than not. Music and movie A+++

We bought this receiver, because our older Yamaha didn't support 4K @ 60fps. The sound is clear and crisp, as I would expect from Yamaha. Since it upscales component to HDMI, even my ancient Wii looks good, on my 4k TV.
This is an older model, so I am not sure how the newer models handle this. After purchasing an XBoxOneX, I did notice that the receiver was blocking 10-bit color @ 60fps. This was an unnecessary scare. I am not sure why Yamaha defaults this ability to off. A quick search enlightened me that I needed to go into the "Advanced" menu (see Google or the manual), to change the HDMI mode from 2 to 1. That worked. Since my TV doesn't handle 12-bit color, I do not know how this is affected.

Why I bought the unit
- Easy to figure out in 3 minutes.
- spectacular sound
- aesthetically simple
- excellent sound through headphones
- built in input and preamp for a turntable (this feature put this unit above everyone else)
If you want living sound without technical complication, this unit is made for you.
Had this for about a month now. Not a single complaint.

I original purchased the new Onyko T-NR757, but returned it once I discovered it lacked pre-outs. The store adviser recommended this in place, and wow! The sound is not even close, and I haven't even begun using my amp yet! It also has a switch to turn off all unessary electrical display usage, reducing interference, so thumbs up! Oh, and DTS:X and DTS:X Neutral are beyond what I had hoped for. Happy customer here!

I'm driving 2 Alesis, 2 Wharfedales, 2 Sony's, and a Yamaha Center. 10" sub is separately amplified. In a 18' x 30' room this system sounds incredible for movies and music. There are many settings available and menus are easy. Sound quality is crisp, clean and robust. Plenty of amperage for solid bass even without sub. Pre-amp outs are a little low, but are clean. It pulls surround from Netflix on Roku, and from DirectTV Now through my computer. Before buying you can d/l manual online like I did to be assured of the capabilities. I highly recommend this unit, it will make your family-room into a home theater. Well worth the price.

My previous receiver was urinated on by our foster dog, so I was moping around looking for a new receiver when I came across this one as an open box item at Best Buy. It's a great upgrade over what I had before - Dolby Atmos is great, it's super easy to get Spotify to pop up and play nearly instantly, the interface is nice and the quality of sound is superb.

This replaced a 7 year old onkio that couldn't handle 4k. Great receiver that handles 4k and 3d. Setup is relatively easy but getting the ARC on my tv made configured right made it a bit more challenging.
Also wish there was a way to lock out an input from a device's automatic control. My Chromecast was driving me nuts and I eventually removed it from my setup.

I am replacing a lower-end Yamaha. I wanted HDMI 2.0, to allow 60 fps @ 4K. This unit not only delivers, but it even upscales my old Wii. (It looks pretty good.) I was able to update the firmware easily. This receiver has the great Yamaha sound I expect, but almost feels a little punchier. GREAT!

Well built, beautiful design and powerful. Unit has all the connections and built-in features that will keep it current for years to come. Easy automated set-up and fine tuning. The 4K pass through is superb and the various sound stages are easy to control and add the exact sound you want depending on your tastes. Simply flawless performance with nothing to complain about. Yamaha customer support is a 10!

We used this receiver to replace a 6 year old Onkyo receiver. I could immediately tell a difference in sound due to the increase in amps over the old receiver. The fact that it does 4k, bluetooth and wireless are the main reasons we upgraded.

nice unit but lacked overall power for the towers I purchased.
speaker terminals not quite the quality I was expecting for a $900 receiver, felt a little light and not quite the bang for the buck I expected. soon after upgraded to Yamaha AVR 1060. It is the solid construction and sound quality I was wanting and expected. Much better component and well worth the extra $

The audio output is amazing! The installation was more complex than I like. The firmware update requires internet access. Without local internet access some features are not available. The lack of test media creates the false assumption that ALL features will work. After installation, the sound presentation has been outstanding! I am glad that I have gone back to Yamaha. The Tablet APP permits direct selection of any DSP program. Without the APP, the user must wade through the list.

Purchased another receiver thinking it was 4k... but realized I wasn't getting HDR quality. Make sure what you buy is 4k and HDR compatable if you have the equipment. You CAN tell the difference.

This receiver was extremely easy to set up. If you have most of your components installed, and the speakers all connected to it, the wizard like setup with a tablet or smart phone is great. The YPAO with multiple locations works great and is also very easy to use. Musicast works great too, so far only using iPhone and iMac. Overall, really happy with it!

After listening to several receivers in the Magnolia center, I selected this Yamaha receiver based on its rich tone quality and its 2 zone capability. Not having purchased a new receiver in over 15 years and having reviewed the comprehensive manual, I opted to have geek squad do the installation. This receiver delivers a vibrant video and amazing sound.
