A mashup feeling of The Strangers, Straw Dogs, and Scream, but has its own personality that will make you get into the movie!

    Different Take on Slasher Flicks

At first glance, this two year old movie-it was made in 2011 but had problems getting released-looks like just another slasher flick. It's not. The film starts with a couple being murdered by assailants wearing animal masks and leaving a message written in blood on the walls, 'You're Next'. Their next targets are Rob and Barbara, who are celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary with their four grown children and their significant others, out at their country house-far away from everyone, of course. A J and Nicholas are two of the visiting children and Sharni is A J's girlfriend. As the home invasion begins, things hang a left from most movies of this type. I don't want to give away too much here but when I saw where this was headed, I said to myself, 'Why hasn't this happened, before?' The less you know about the twists before you see it, the better. It's a fight for survival and the violence is brutal, with the animal mask-wearing attackers using cross bows, machetes and even a sledge hammer as weapons. It's rated "R" for violence, language and sexuality-including nudity-and has a running time of 1 hour & 34 minutes. I really thought this was innovative and quite different and that is why I bought this on DVD.

I heard about this movie quite a while ago and have been trying to get my hands on it to see. I love horror and the Home invasion sub genre had my attention sort of. It was never anything that was a must see for me but i enjoyed The Strangers and their use of very plain masks for the "Strangers". So when i heard of this and saw that they were using the animal masks it made me a little interested but then all the positive reviews it was getting made me want to see it more. Yes it is a home invasion movie....and yes it starts off pretty standard...BUT....it then kind of takes you on a whole other level with the twist and the action on screen. I really enjoyed it and anyone who likes horror should check it out for sure!

Overall, the way I would rate this picture, is uniquely done, except it could've been more suspenseful and scarier. after seeing it in the theater, I was just a tad bit mystified on how everything was presented during filming of this particular picture. Even though it was written really well, the acting could've been better. throughout the film, it seemed too predictable and you thought of the obvious. But, still enjoyed it, nonetheless. enough to make a DVD purchase of this film. The thing I enjoyed the most was the twist which happens usually at the end of the film. It was your typical popcorn flick, and will be enjoyed during a snowy night, where you have nothing else better to do, but make it a movie night.

If you're a fan of the home invasion genre, this is a good choice for a purchase or rental. The acting is good, the gore quotient is pretty high, and there's a twist about 3/4 of the way into the film that you won't see coming. The picture quality on the Blu-Ray is very good, considering how many dark scenes there are in the film. The DTS 5.1 MA soundtrack is pretty aggressive with good surround activity and some good low bass. I saw a screener of this on DVD and rest assured that the Blu-Ray version blows it's DVD counterpart totally away. Horror movie fans will definitely not be disappointed if they add this Blu-Ray to their collection.

This is how you do a home invasion film! The people who did The Purge should take notes on this. I loved the idea of fighting back against the invaders and when the fighting starts, there are some deaths scenes that will be embedded into your brain for life because they are so graphic or creative. I was a little taken back in the first 20 minutes because it had a hard time setting up the characters and I think that was mainly due to a lack of acting talent in some of the actors. But once the ball gets rolling and the invasion begins, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. That is when you start to feel who it is you should root for in the house. The hero of the story ends up being someone I wouldn't have guessed at the beginning and that becomes one of the biggest treats of the film! This was such a fantastic way to bring the summer movie season to a close! The melding of The Strangers meets Home Alone keeps this movie fast paced and fresh. It's one that I will seek out to watch in theaters again.

Entertaining, suspenseful horror but familiar plot

"You're Next" Is a well-paced, fun horror film that adds to the recent wave of semi high quality films from the genre. The story is of a well to do family being attacked by mask wearing attackers, while on vacation at the family retreat. It is effectively fun and entertaining with a decent twist at the end. My only issue is that I have seen this story before. If you have seen "Aggression Scale" (a movie about a rich family being attacked in their new home) "You're Next" will feel very familiar. That said, the cast does a solid job and the film is entertaining until the end.

$10 is a fair price for such a great movie. If you love horror movies and dark comedy, this movie is for you. There are so many memorable scenes in this movie that are just cinematic gold. This movie isn't very creative when it comes to the premise of the movie, but the execution is amazing. The best way I can describe it is "a home invasion movie during a quarrelsome family reunion." For the physical release itself, it came with a blu ray, a DVD, and a digital code; I'm sure the digital code probably doesn't work anymore, but at least you get the Blu ray and DVD! If you are a fan of horror, last girls, dysfunctional families, and dark comedy, I highly recommend you check this movie out.

Unlike many other scare-fests, YOU'RE NEXT doesn't attempt to be overly clever or break any new storytelling ground. This is a straightforward, extremely well-made for the budget horror gem that's not only worth watching but worth owning if you like the guilty-pleasure of bloody movies. Cinematography is an A+ and the acting is more than acceptable for the genre while the bone-crunching sound and money-shot gore-effects are awesome (dare I say even restrained a bit). Give it up for Adam Wingard (Director) and Simon Barrett (Writer and Tiger Mask) for producing their best effort yet by far. Horror fans rejoice.

I saw good reviews for this movie and saw it on sale so I picked it up for some Halloween watching. Much to my surprise I wasn't in for a standard slasher movie. Sure it starts that way but not for long. Before long we're treated to a movie that puts the slasher on it's head. You actually have character(s) you can root for and they have a possibility of winning! It's kind of like Scream but if Gale (Courteney Cox) was a huge fan of Rambo movies. I rated this movie as 5 stars because it's a very good horror action movie and was very entertaining. Not because it was so good it would be able to take on Citizen Kane or Dr. Strangelove. Compared to other slashers I think this is on top of it's game. Very fun movie. If you like this you should also check out Cabin in the Woods if you haven't seen it.

This is a low-budget horror movie with big budget blood and guts. What starts as a nice family reunion turns into a blood bath when a group of strangers in masks invade with murderous intentions. Luckily, one of the guests happens to be a survivalist. She quickly turns the table on the invaders thanks to her skills and experience. There is a twist in the story and an ironic ending. It's great for those who enjoy seeing would-be killers get their comeuppance.

If you want a good thrill ride with a bit of gore I suggest this movie to all horror fans. It's not light on the blood and it definitely delivers good atmosphere and tension. There is a little cheese here and there, but what horror movie doesnt have that? Definitely a memorable group of villains. I didnt like the pacing of the movie sometimes, and the characters were not very deep. I am still waiting for a horror movie that freaks me out and breaks the mold completely.

We went and saw this movie in theaters. We really enjoyed it so I purchased the blu-ray. I have yet to watch the blu-ray, but my niece did and enjoyed it. The masks remind me of Strangers, while the traps remind me of The Collector. I didn't care much for the movie as it got towards the end as it was predictable on who it was and why. Overall, good horror flick.

I really liked this movie, it had a lot to offer in the way of shocking moments and gory bits, as well as a few funny parts that were surprising in such a violent, scary movie. If you like campy movies and/or are a fan of these types of movies, then I recommend this to you.

This movie was recommended to me. Normally I don't watch horror movies, because they aren't very good, but this one was different. The first 20 or so minutes are a bit slow but after it kicks in, man does it kick in. This is a pretty good movie that for the most part is fairly realistic. Give it a watch.

In short, You're Next stands as a solid horror effort in a dismal year of for horror. The centerpiece of the film is Aussie newcomer Sharni Vinson who plays a badass final girl. Enough gore to please gore fans and a smart script in hand, You're Next mostly satisfies. Though, it can't seem to manage to go beyond its b-movie territory.
