It does not completely black it out from side view as you are still able to make out pictures but not able to actually read the text. Would have thought that it would have been more of a blacked out privacy and not able to see anything. I mean it does provide readable text privacy but definitely could be better. As for the screen protection part, I have ZAGG protectors on all 5 of my family's phones and so far they have protected the screens from actually cracking. The protectors have broken at least once on all the phones sometimes more but are replaced under the free replacement at Best Buy so that makes up for the price of the initial cost of the protector and the actual screens are not damaged (knock on wood). Overall the added privacy filter is a little pricey compared to the price without the filtering feature. I think it added around $20 to the price of the regular one. Probably would have stuck with the non privacy as the extra price doesn't really warrant the privacy you actually get. I rated this as I "do recommend" in regards to the screen protection part as I do feel it is a good protector for your screen being damaged.
