The hardware set up was easy, had to call the support help to get the software up and going, but after that, I love this. Loved this so much that i Purchased 2, one for weekend home. PS - for the Parents of teenagers and those of us who work away from home...... ahah moment !! would love to see the cameras at night a little more clearer

Overall camera system is not bad. The quality is not crystal sharp, but it's decent (720p). Connecting the system is straight forward. However, if you wanted to run the ethernet cable through a hole in the wall, you might need to cut the connector off and put on a new connector yourself after. This was what I did, but I don't recommend this if you don't have experience making ethernet cables. After it's hooked up, you need to connect it to a monitor to complete the set up. After that, you can use your laptop or mobile device to view the recorded footage or Live View.

This was easy to set-up. Gets pretty decent video quality and the 2 gig recorder should go about a month before needing to write over the old data.

    Great camera system so far

I bought this system after reading online about several different brands of systems. I even purchased a Swann brand first. After several hours of no luck at attempting to get my router to recognize that system, I contacted their customer service. After more than 2 hours of waiting to talk to a customer service rep I found them to be useless to assisting me. I returned that system and purchased this one from Best Buy. The cameras were so easy to set up; almost just plug and play. The connection to my Android was up in minutes using their Zsight App. Installation was the hardest part, only because the Cat 5 lines had to be ran through my attic for the cameras. Once that was done everything else went smoothly. One thing you need to know are the cameras are weatherproof, but you must weatherproof the connections. This can be done easily with shrink tubing or simply wrapping the connection with Saran Wrap and then covering that with white electrical tape or white duct tape. Now for the NVR and cameras. The pictures and video are great. You can go into your settings and chose the quality you want. With my settings I get beautiful recordings with true to life color. The night vision is comparable to any other systems I have viewed. I have one camera that I have covering an outbuilding that is 125 ft away. I have a night light in my yard and I can still see the building and can see anyone moving around the building. I did have one camera that the IR quit working. Zmodo sent me replacement camera under warranty quickly. Instructions are limited for using the NVR. I found a lot of information on the Zmodo Forums and also contacted Zmodo Support via chat. Zmodo Support was very helpful. With my settings, my 2TB hard drive is holding 4 weeks of 24 hour a day recordings. You can set up the sensitivity of the motion alerts and how you wish to be notified. You can also search recordings and easily save them to a USB flash drive for viewing on you computer. The menu is a little confusing until you use it a while. So far the only negative I have with Zmodo is the Zsight App. After the the last update it is working somewhat better, It still tends to be somewhat glitchy at times. Zmodo reps say that they are working on those issues now. My rating is for the system itself. If I were rating the app it would only get a 4 star rating.

ZModo BAD - Best Buy Great

This is the third time I have tried to write a review warning people about this product and company. I ordered this from BBY and they had to ZModo company ship it but they shipped one with less than 1TB of storage space. I complained to the ZModo company and they tried to get me to pay to ship their product back before they would send the item with the correct storage space. I refused and they finally sent me a postage paid label when I said I would take down the whole system and return it to BBY. They finally sent back one that they said had the 2TB of storage but it again had less than 2TB. I called BBY to return the product but they had lowered the price by almost half so they refunded me the difference so that I would keep the product. Other than feeling like ZModo is purposely trying to send out smaller units than advertised (because what normal user would bother to look at the hard drive space when they got their system) to boost their profits, the product does seem to do what it was purchased for. Kind of wished I got the larger system because I need one more camera to actually cover everything that I would like to cover but I didn't want to purchase 8 cameras.

I’m very sorry that you had a negative experience getting this hard drive issue resolved. From the pictures that you attached, it looks like the first system came with a 1TB hard drive instead of the 2TB that you ordered. We have several quality assurance processes in place at our warehouse to minimize these kinds of errors. I apologize that we did not catch this before it shipped to you and for the difficulty getting the NVR exchanged for the correct storage capacity.
From your images, it looks like the second NVR you received had the correct hard drive installed. The NVR will not show the full 2000G is available because some of that space is reserved for creating partitions in the data so the hard drive can overwrite once it’s full.
I’m glad that you were able to work with Best Buy to resolve this issue and to keep the system. I very happy that even after these issues, you are satisfied with the system’s operation.
We appreciate your feedback and thank you for your businesses. If you ever have any other issues or questions, please reach out to our support team at 217-903-5037 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.

The cameras and DVR seem to work properly until you connect to the internet. Then everything freezes up and has to be reset and disconnected from the internet for the cameras to work again. On top of that, the customer support at zmodo does not exist. And when I asked questions to the geek squad, I was told that they do not help without charging me an installation fee of $125 and if it still doesn't work then I have to get in touch with zmodo, who can't be reached. I'm very surprised that Best Buy sells things that you can't get help from the manufacturer.

If you want a small security camera system (four cameras) which has very good image quality during the day and night, this system will work well for you. I wanted a camera system to record activity around my house while I am home and gone after some items were stolen off of my porch. I originally purchased a Swann four camera system (960H, 780 TVL resolution) and installed it. I felt the image quality was very good but was not great. It had decent day and night vision and image quality. The app on my iPhone worked great and I was able to monitor everything from the DVR unit or from my phone in real time. When I reviewed playback from the DVR, it functioned as expected but was a little glitchy when watching multiple streams at the same time which made it very annoying but bearable. The mobile app did it's job but was bare bones and also did not allow reviewing streams that were recorded on the DVR. You could only watch real time. This Zmodo went on sale and after reading about analog systems (Swann that i got) and digital systems (this Zmodo), I knew I had to try it out. I installed the Zmodo system in place of the Swann system and was immediately impressed by the much better image resolution and color of the 720P cameras from Zmodo. I have to admit the Swann camera mounts are superior to the Zmodo but the Zmodo cameras themselves are superior to the Swann units. I installed the mobile app and I was able to see the different streams as well but only one at a time (you can view all streams at the same time with Swann or one at a time). The image quality on the mobile app with the Zmodo was superior and very clear when you select the SD or HD resolution stream. Although buggy still, you do have the ability to view recorded content from the Zmodo NVR on your mobile device. Reviewing the streams from the NVR on the Zmodo was similar to the Swann and had some quirks as well but was functional and did what would be needed when reviewing video. Overall I would recommend bypassing any of the analog solutions (cameras which are TVL rated and use BNC connectors) and get a digital solution (720P or 1080P rated cameras which use ethernet connections) based on my research and my real world experience between these two systems. This Zmodo is a good system if you want to have really good image quality and a recording of what went on around your house in case you need it. The installation is easy enough and if you have some understanding of where to drill into your house eves, you do a pretty clean job of self installing this system to monitor the perimeter of your house.

I'm fairly tech savvy but what a waste of 3 hours and still doesn't work. Followed the 1 sheet of instructions but referred to internet website for majority of the install. Nothing will connect. The menu is like looking at a 1980s menu screen. Hooked it up to my 52" tv just so I could see. The cameras all worked but can't get it to port forward. The video tutorial said I needed 2 computers and 2 internet connections to make sure it is working correctly. Boxing it up and taking back. I shouldn't have to spend 3 hours running through different support scenarios to get it to work. Will pay the extra money for a better system and decent support.

I'm sorry you had difficulty setting up this system. There is no need to port forward in your router with this system. You will use the mobile app Zsight to connect the system to your network and to view from any where in the world. To test that everything is setup correctly, you can turn off the WiFi on your phone so you connect to 3G/4G; there is no need for multiple computers or multiple locations. If you choose to keep the system, please contact our tech support at 217-903-5037 Monday through Friday 8am to 8pm Central time. We'd be happy to help you with the setup process. We also have an article on our online knowledge base that can help you with the setup process at this link: http://kb.zmodo.com/index.php?action=artikel&cat=20&id=328&artlang=en&highlight=zsight

I have both dropcam and this one. For most people, dropcam is much easier to set up. As for the cost, i've had a robbery and lost $$$$$...We bough this unit because we didn't want to pay the $400 cloud fee($100 each camera). With good image quality, this is a much better deal if you don't want to pay the extra service fee for your surveillance service.
