    Pretty decent mic in general, good mic for the price. Although the mic has a good amount of distortion, it’s not much when compared to other mics at the price point. Not an SM7B but better than an SM57 for vocals.

    I am a huge fan of Zoom products generally. I've owned two of their studio multitrack units, four of their field recorders, and various mic capsules they make for the H6. This mic was a huge disappointment. I can only assume they were trying to cash in on the podcasting fad and new work-from-home trend due to the pandemic. This mic has a tremendous amount of handling noise, yet it's actually not very sensitive. You have to get your face right up in the mic-- almost touching it-- to get a decent sound (even with moderate gain). Once you get the sound level up high-enough, it's still a rather dark tone and not very flattering for voices (unless you're going for that middle-aged male, smoky, smooth jazz DJ vocal tone). There are only two things I can say positive about the mic: It's cheap, and it doesn't require phantom power. But still, you'd be better off getting a Shure SM57 if you must have a dynamic mic (about the same cost, but twice as good). If you can swing the phantom power, upgrade to an Audio-Technica AT2035 (yes, twice as expensive, but ten-times better than this Zoom). As an aside, let me mention that the Zoom U-22 USB interface is excellent, whatever mic you choose. Just get a different mic than this one.

    Absolutely will be returning this microphone. Sound is horrible to adjust even with shock stabilizer. Absolute junk
