I was looking for a cheap mp3 player, and found the Refurbished Zune HD for $119.00. I thought it was perfect so i took it. It came with everything a brand new one would come with. I went back, bought a set of Altec Lansing Earphones, and went to RadioShack and bought a USB wall charger and AUX Cable. I can get on the internet through my high school's Wi-Fi, and chat with friends on facebook at McDonalds. I love it. It holds a lot more songs than i expected, and videos dont take up much space either. Its just about as good as the iPod Touch, just has about 100 less apps, and is $100 less bucks!!
I love it, and the only thing i couldn't find at any store was a screen protector and an FM Transmitter. But other than that, if you had to choose, get an iPod touch by all means, but for price-- get a Zune HD!!

Better than iPod

When I say better than an iPod, I mean if you use an MP3 player for what it's meant to be used for, music. If you want apps and all that then get an iPod Touch, but when it comes to music, Zune all the way. The Zune software is WAY better then iTunes, much faster and easier to use and wireless sync, Apple needs to scrap iTunes and start over, it's a slow hog and is terrible to use. The screen on the Zune HD is very very nice and the OS is easy to use. The music quality is outstanding and so is the picture and video viewing. It's physically smaller than an iPod Touch but feels sturdy and light. All in all, if you only want to listen to music, the Zune HD wins hands down.

what u can expect from a refurb

the zune works great and i had it for a few weeks now. the problem i had with this refurbished zune, was that it came with the adapter to hook to the pc was not an official zune adapter. it was actually a cheap dynex one, what made it worst was that it was for the ipod and not for the zune. thankfully, i had np going to customer service at my local best buy and they swapped out the adapter to the official zune for no extra cost. u get what u get for a refurbished product, but the zune is in great working condition. another problem i had is best buy does not support/ carry much accessories for zune, so i had to purchase those from other places.

I bought my Zune online and got it at $119.00. I was skeptical at first because of the price. When I received it it was new in box and had all accessories included. OK here's the BUT. When I hooked up the head phones the jack had to be pulled out slightly and twisted to hear music.I tried another headphone and it had the same problem. I tried to live with it because of the price, but listening to it in my pants pocket at work I had to constantly adjust it. After a few days I had enough.I took it back to Bestbuy and got my money back. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the Zune and bought another from Amazon at a higher price. I had a Sansa Sandisk and it blows it out of the water. The touch screen has some getting use to since I prefer buttons, but I'll get over it. I recommend a Zune, but make sure you get a warranty where ever you purchase it.

Be Cautious About Refurbished

I like the Zune HD, so I decided to purchase a second unit, however the only ones available are refurbished, so I purchased this
The refurbished unit arrived and it looked quite "used" with a scratched screen and worn buttons, so I returned it. A second unit was sent, and this one was also worn. I spoke to a representative at the Geek Squad and they said the units should appear new after being refurbished. This was not the case.

Gives Ipod touch a run for its money

The ZuneHD as a great system for the many people who cannot afford the ipod touch.. with a lot of the features the same and even better on the Zune, the touch screen is more responsive, but lacks the thousands of apps that ipod has.
it always has a fully integrated zune martketplace sfotware which is nearly as good as itunes...
for the money you pay on this 16 gig unit its still more than 65 dollars less than a bare bones 8 gig ipod touch... well worth the money i paid for it.

The Zune HD had so much potential. Its appearance is excellent, it is very sleek and feels like a quality built component. The screen is vivid, the menus are fluid and easy to master, the playback is flawless. It has a lot of pop. The addition of wi-fi and HD radio just about completes the ideal package for a relatively cheap MP3 player but:
The software is not stable. The battery life rapidly deteriorates as you add things to the memory, Microsoft has walked away from this product leaving you with no more software updates or apps. It is doomed. Finding accessories like cases and docks is becoming harder.
Mine decided to reboot itself and wipe everything including the pics, app, etc that came with it twice. I gave up after that and Best Buy, awesome as they are, honored the 30 day return policy and let me swap it for a Sony walkman which has a lot less features but a much better sound. The Sony software is rock solid and the content transfer s/w works better on my PC.
Long story short, don't bother unless you just want a gadget to hack around on. Don't like Apple products? Get a Sony.

Great MP3 Player...not gaming device

I have owned all previous generations of Zune and the Zune HD is by far the best. The touch controls are slick and the whole things feels great. The display is bright and vivid. The Zune HD is the smallest Zune yet and it is smaller than and ipod touch. Do not buy this device if you are looking for a gaming device it does not even compete with the ipod. If you are just looking for a MP3 player at half the price as the other guys.....this is for you!!

I don't like Apple b/c of the chokehold they have on there players. The zune is easier to use and less strings attached. Plus the iPod touch is a lot more expensive and is unnecessary if you have a good smartphone.

I am not a huge fan of the iPods what-so-ever (iTunes is garbage), so when my previous Zune (I believe it was 1st generation, 4GB) finally died after 4 years (pretty good considering!). I quite extensively looked into MP3 players and came the conclusion that I wanted another Zune and not some OTHER brand.
I am quite happy with this, it being my first touch-pad device. The one thing that I am not particularly fond of is the fact that it does not have something to the extent of a "Back" button, like my previous Zune had. Other than that, extremely happy with the quality and use-ability of it!

Was easy to use. I purchased this item for my 8 year old son with down syndrome. He has no trouble navigating the comtrols. The only draw back I found was that you have to have headphones. This item does not work with out them.

I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. I was skeptical about buying a refurbished product as many are but the price was right so I took a chance. WOW! It works great and she loves it. The only drawback was that it was not in a ZUNE box and I did not want her to know it was refurbished, so I had to purchase a gift box for her and told her the instructions were at the ZUNE site. She is a happy and satisfied teenager and I am a happy and satisfied customer.

I really like the Zune. It has a good feature set and is easy enough to use. The instructions I got with it were not enough to tell me anything except it was time to go online and find out about this thing. Everything was great until...
The screen Stopped Working!!
It was within 30 days. I returned it to a Best Buy store and they gave me _full credit towards another product including credit for the shipping_. It just happened that the same model of Zune was on sale (new of course). After tax I paid $25 more for the new one.
I have heard good things about them and liked it enough to give a new one a try.

Zune isn't a ipod...if you want apps & little games, ipod is where your head should be turning. Although, if you want good audio & video, turn to Zune.

I bought into the HD radio hype, advertised as "crystal clear with no static!" I work in a bunker-like federal building, and though I get radio, it is often hard to listen to due to static. I read several reviews of HD radio products stating that HD would solve this problem, but the HD signal is so weak that in situations where I wanted it most the receiver does not even recognize the HD feed and reverts to the terrible-quality non-digital wave. Sure, it was wonderful finding new substations from my home, where I have internet access and could just listen to them streaming anyway, but that's negated when the receiver can't even pick up a signal!
If you want a portable digital library, hope you have a fiberoptic line, because this product does not come with software and on my high-speed broadband line downloading the software is estimated at two and a half days, if the connection does not time out at the server. Please note that all connections will time out at the server when they would take two and a half days. I hope that Microsoft will ship the software to me eventually so I can use the other features.
Applications? Marketplace? Wireless? Obviously not the intended purpose of the product. Get a smartphone if you actually want to use such features.
This thing is cartridge-game-durable though. Survived being thrown like a jump shot onto my patio when the shipper ignored my request to leave it by my front door. Hit it with a mallet, but buy a great deal of screen wipes. Just wish there was some non-touchscreen interface.
The interface is not user-friendly. Good luck decoding it without the manual or software. I would almost like to put forward the rest of the money to get the non-refurbished product just to see what it comes from.
Want an HD radio for extra stations? Buy a dedicated portable HD radio. Want an HD radio for audio clarity? Buy a modern portable radio, because the HD clarity is a lie. Want a digital media library? Buy something with software included, even if it is this product but new instead of refurbished. Want apps? Buy a smartphone.
