I purchased this USB flash drive because I wanted to have access to my music and video files on my new XBOX ONE S. The USB ports on it support 3.0 so the transfer is quick and files load immediately. For the price, you can transport a lot of files and content. There are computers that don't even have this much storage... There is a handy loop on the end of it so you can attach it to your keys or other items. You can also set it up so that no one has access to your files or you can designate certain files to be accessible and keep the others inaccessible. It's a nice plus. The small switch/button on the flash drive allows you to slide out the usb access port when you need it and slide it back into the flash drive when you are not using it which keeps it protected. SanDisk makes good, high quality products. I have many other flash drives and SD cards made by them that have never failed me. To be honest, the average person would never use the total capacity of this flash drive but digital photographers that work with RAW files, 4K videos and High Dynamic Range content use a lot of space so individuals that work with these types of files would appreciate the volume as well as the speed of this flash drive.

I purchased this item primary because of the price and capacity. I have a ton of USB 2 sticks but this one seems promising. I have used it pretty heavily in the last month. - Bootdisk for reloading my MacOSX. - Storing backup software to reload while I am offline on new systems - I have even used it for temp caching on a data mining project due to the device I was currently on it was very limited on ram/hdd space. It held impressively and did not unmount under very heavy load. I was very tempted to buy a few more but after since I primary either have it in my laptop bag or key-chain it opens very easily (its obviously designed to be on a key-chain and mobile has the loop on it). It Drives me nuts. That is the only reason I took off a star. Yes I know they have a carrying pouch but I am not very interested in buy another product for something I feel should be handled on here. It should not be that difficult to add either a locking mechanism such as a pocket knife has or perhaps stiffen up the sensitivity of it opening up. Other than that I would strongly recommend the product for the price and quality. If I was not so mobile I would own several more!

A great deal for a router's "emergency" storage

Almost all routers have at least one USB input, and that input can be used as a network storage receptacle. I had been eyeing the SanDisk line for just a few weeks when I saw the USB 3 (backward compatible, of course) go on sale for ... well, it was a VERY aggressive price point! As soon as I got it home and unwrapped it, breezed through the directions for anything "funny" I should know, then plugged it in. The router IMMEDIATELY recognized it and on the routers maintenance page I could even name the drive. Additionally, virtually every device connected to our home network could, also, IMMEDIATELY see the new "drive". Further, the performance is OUTSTANDING! we were lucky enough to get a router with a USB 3 socket, so we are enjoying the FULL PERFORMANCE BENEFITS OF THE DEVICE AS WELL AS THE RELIABILITY AND STABILITY ASSOCIATED WITH SANDISK PRODUCTS !!! In hindsight, I should have held out and gotten the 512GB drive; however, that is small potatoes. As time goes on we'll relegate this drive to an off-network back-up device and get the "new" 2 TB version at some point in ... the next few months!?!? What a plan !!!

I purchased two of these and they are advertised as being 256GB. I used h2testw which is a utility that writes blocks of data to an empty USB flash drive and then verifies how many blocks of data are really on the drive. I relocated the software from both flash drives and tested them empty. The first drive tested at 236870 Mb, the second drive tested at 237861 Mb. So that is 236.8 GB and 237.8 GB. Both over 15 GB short of the advertised size. These drives are formatted and locked to FAT32 so people who don't know any better can't reformat them to NTFS which supports "journaling" and would shorten the life of the drive but I can't see the encryption to accomplish that consuming 15 GB of space. Still a decent sized flash drive for storing movies no larger than the FAT32 limitation of 4 GB. And for permanent storage of pictures and files.

Overall, this drive does what it should. It's fairly inexpensive considering it gives you 256GB of storage. However, I have a few of these and noticed that they rarely actually ever write at full USB 3.0 speeds (which I would say 100MB/s is good, but these in my experience only write around 50MB/s, still fast enough, but if you have a lot of data to move around, it can take some time. REad speeds are still good, though, 100MB/s or more. I'm quite sure this limitation is not my computer, as I've experienced this on a few machines with various drives of this model, so I'm thinking that perhaps they advertised only the read speed and the write speed is not quite what it seems (which is how companies generally advertise storage media anyway--they boast about the read speed, but the write speed is generally 50% less). Regardless, I'd still recommend this as I've never had a problem with a SanDisk drive going bad (yet).

I bought this because I generally run multiple different programs on various computers; I felt like each year I had to double my USB size (32>64>128>256). I have the 128 version of this drive and while I have not ran tests, I can tell you that this one is a bit slower. However, at this price point of $60 I can not argue the extra 20 seconds on an iso file. There is one negative, the text on the usb (IE. Red "Sandisk" writing and the back where you can write your name will fade away after a couple of weeks in a pocket, every version of this thumb drive does this)

      Cheap, Cheap plastics

First thing off, data transfer rate vs. other USB 3 sticks isn't a phenomenon. It's no more, I guess, than its specs, but still it's not a SuperDrive vs. my old 64GB Corsair Voyager GT. Second, the slider won't keep at a close position, It just slides itself in and out. Third, most important, and most frustrating, last night It was lost, along with some extremely valuable data. Don't get me wrong, I DID NOT lose it. It's been attached to my keys ring. Apparently, it was broken free. I DID NOT remove it from my keys ring. My Keys ring in intact. It's a shame for a once distinguished company as Sandisk to use such cheap plastic. I do not yet know the implications of the loss of my data which was supposed to be SAFE WITH ME. Shame. Shame Shame.

While I had initially purchased this for use on my MacBook, it was a little large in size to keep this from continuous use. It is about an inch and a half to 2 inches long. The USB connector slides in and out for portability. The memory size is obviously the selling point here, and it does not disappoint. It has some software (security, encryption, etc) already on it, but there is plenty of space open for the user! As it's size prevented me from it's initial intended purpose, I used it on my Linksys router's USB 3.0 slot for an improvised network drive, and it is great! Especially as I can access it using pretty much any device that can access my router. Highly recommended if you need a memory stick with lots of storage.
