FAQ
Low profile surround speakers may offer wall-mount brackets, keyhole slots, or threaded inserts for compatible mounts and stands. In-wall models use a different installation method, with the speaker enclosure recessed into the wall. Available mounting options depend on the speaker design.
Both types are available. Passive surround speakers connect to an AV receiver or external amplifier using speaker wire. Powered models have built-in amplification and require an electrical power source, along with a compatible audio connection.
Many wireless surround speakers still require a power cord. Wireless typically refers to the audio connection, not the power supply. Some systems use a separate wireless receiver that connects to the surround speakers with speaker wire.
Conventional passive surround speakers do not decode audio formats themselves; a compatible AV receiver or processor handles decoding. For wireless surround speakers, format support depends on the connected soundbar or home theater system. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X configurations also depend on the system’s supported speaker layout.
Common options include black or white cabinets with fabric or metal grilles. Some architectural speakers have paintable grilles, while other models feature removable grilles or fixed covers. Check the speaker specifications to confirm its finish and whether the grille is designed to be painted.
