A: In order to get foamed milk without a shot of espresso, you can press the button for using ground coffee (but with no grounds added to the machine. Then you press latte machiatto and press it again to stop it when you've got the amount you want. The machine will go on to try to make the espresso shot, using ground coffee, but when it finds there are no grounds, it will display a red light for a minute before the "clean" light comes on. Then go ahead with cleaning. Works great! There are videos on YouTube showing how to do this.
A: It is self cleaning. It has a self-cleaning cycle when you power on and power off. To rinse the LatteCrema system, you push a button. For descaling, all you do is add the descaling solution, water, and the machine will do the rest. It is quite easy, you just assist the machine with the water refills. It does run through a lot of water really fast.
