Best game system camera on the market!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased The Eye of Judgement, which was bundled with the Playstation Eye and thought it would just serve the purposes of that game, but I was wrong. This is the most versatile accessory I've ever owned for any game system and Sony has done a great job by integrating uses for the camera in a number of great game, including Buzz Quiz TV. There are a few exclusive games you can download from the playstation network for the playstation eye, which I highly recommend and if you haven't played Trials of Topoq, I highly recommend you check it out. Eye Create, which is free with the Eye is a lot of fun and there are some cool effects that you can add to your video, which make it a lot of fun, especially if you have children. And the video chat is great. If you lwant to enhance your games, elevate your chatting capabilities and/or create videos, then this is the device for you.

unique fun
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Eye Camera seperate from the Eye of Judgement game becasue I really don't play card games. The reason I purchased the camera was so that I could use it with my 5 yr. old who has recently taken an interest in animation. With the free download available on the PSN, you are able to leverage this clever device to do all sorts of fun and unique things. But first, I'll address the camera from a hardware perspective: It's well built, and sturdy looking. The camera pivots from left to right on it's base, but cannot be adjusted to look up or down. The camera auto-focuses, and seems to do a nice job of it. The lens does twist to provide a "zoom" view of the subject as well. Perhaps the thing I was most impressed with is the sound quality it is able to capture. I recorded a few demo videos to test the functionality, and found that you can easily sit 10 feet from the camera and talk in very normal tones and the camera picks it all up beautifully. The sound is rich and full. I have not had the chance to video chat with it yet, but from what I have seen, it will be nice and easy. The 360 offers a similar product, but the image quality and frame rates are not quite as good, and you are required to wear a headset to transmit voice and pick up sound. Overall, I am pleased with it from a hardware aspect, with he only real downsides being the fact that you cannot pivot the lens up or down. No software comes with the camera. Instead, you must grab it from the Playstation Store on the PSN. It is a free download, and takes up very little space. The software itself is easy, but does have a small learning curve due to the fact that it does not come with much in the way of detailed instructions. However, anyone with any technological saavy will be up and running in no time. Capturing video is easy and fun. If you are expecting fancy editing software, you'll be dissapointed here, but that isn't the point. The ability to save your videos to the PS3 HD is great, and the fact that they can be transferred to a PC (via a USB storage device) is really cool--especially considering that you can then turn around and email them to family/friends or post them on YouTube. The software offers several effects including various colors filters and distortion modes, as well as the ability to do stop motion and time lapse. The latter two effects are the main reasons I purchased the camera, and I could not be more pleased with how they work. For time lapse, you can set the cam to snap a photo every 5, 10, or 30 seconds, and simply leave the camera untouched for hours on end, simply to return and view the results later. I have left the camera on--pointing out a window--overnight to watch the sunrise. What a neat option! The stop-motion animation function is unbelievably simple. You snap several photos in succession, and then the software combines them into a single video file. You can fit up to 100 frames into each scene, and then the various scenes can be combined to form one long stop-motion movie. For adults out there that are maybe having trouble finding fun things to do with their kids and are intimidated by today's complex video games, I can tell you firsthand that this is a breath of fresh air, and a great way to to intereact with the young ones. The overall image quality is pretty good. One thing I do not like about the software, is that if you tweak it for specific lighting array, you aren't able to save those settings, which means you need to change them each time you begin using the camera again. There really isn't any excuse for this, but know that changing these settings probably takes less than 30 seconds. Great product overall. Mind you, this isn't a hi-def camera, but it gives you the tools to do things on a console that have never been done before. In the very near future, there will be additional software released for the camera via the PSN Store. One that intrigues me is an aquarium simulator that looks eerily realistic. The fish react to movement on the camera, which sounds like a great thing to have on the background if you are having people over. All in all, I am pleased with this product and I hightly reccomend it.

Fantastic Product For The Price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After doing some research on the Sony website, as well as reading the reviews about this product and seeing it in action at a local Best Buy store I decided to finally purchase the PS3 eye. I connected it the PS3 and downloaded the free software for it from the PlayStation Network and it worked flawlessly. I initially tested the video and sound quality in the "Accessory Settings" tab and I was impressed with how easy it was to calibrate the speakers and adjust the device to pick up your voice even from moderate distances in the room. My TV is approximately 13ft from my seating area in the living room, and I can sit on the couch and talk at normal voice levels and the sound is picked up without any distortion or sound loss (choppiness). You can even adjust the refresh rate of the camera in video mode to reduce flicker (50Hz or 60Hz). Next I wanted to see the camera in action so I tested the video quality using the voice/audio chat feature on the PS3. The video looked great on my TV (46" Samsung /1080P/ 60Hz) using HDMI. I only chatted with one friend so far, but he says the picture quality was clear on his screen as well, and he could hear me clearly on his Blue Tooth headset (he doesn't have a camera yet). The camera can be used to digitize your face into several games. I used it to create a face for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 2. It took me several times to get it right, because the camera is so sensitive, you have to be sure not to move and position your head at the right angles for the software to generate a face profile for you. (I recommend having someone help you with this by pushing the buttons on the controller. Save you some time!!! :)) Overall, I am very satisfied with the product. I gave it a 4 out of 5 because the video quality when recording to the PS3 is not as clear as the online chat. Not a big deal to me, but something worth mentioning if you are considering using this for video recording. I understand it can also be used as a web cam for a PC. Haven't done this since I have a pretty good Web cam, but good to know. In addition, the PS3 eye also works great when playing online and you want to comment or chat with teammates. Gives your ear a rest from some of the uncomfortable ear pieces that can hurt the ear after a period of time. I would recommend this product to anyone who enjoys video/audio chats via the PS3 or just enjoys plotting with teammates in great online play like Socom, Warhawk, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1 or2, etc. Enjoy!!!!

Gets the Job Done.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nothing to shout about. Gets the job done. Really wish it had better visual quality or HD format. However its perfect for the PS Move. However there is a tiny bit of lag but not much.

Great potential, no current use.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wouldn't have anyone to think that I don't like this product or that it does not do exactly what its suppose to do, because it does. However, this item is not a MUST-HAVE for your PS3. Its pretty cool to be able to take the pictures directly on your PS3 and add effects and even make movies. These are things you can do with any USB camera hooked to the PS3. Also it is more conservative to use a PC and save the images/movies to other media(SD,Memory Stick) and use on the PS3 without taking up drive space. I would say that the EYE had game functionality, but currently on EYE of Judgement is the only FULLY interactive game with the EYE. There are a couple of other PSN downloadable games, but they are not worth the effort and are rather pointless (AQUATOPIA???) If you just want something else to do with your PS3, this is a neat addition. If you want something that currently has real value or serves more of a purpose CURRENTLY save your money and wait until more games are released. Neat to spy on people in the room with it though, using your PSP while away from home!!!

Good accessory
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The quality on this is not that great. Sony just reused the PS2 Eye because the video and picture quality is pretty grainy. It has limited range on how to adjust it accordingly to your play space. It works well what it's suppose to be used for but I feel like Sony didn't really try to innovate much into this old technology.

Fantastic Microphone!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to use only as a microphone, wow, its awesome for that. I have never used it as a camera and never will, no need for it. I wish I would of bought this before I got all of my blu tooth ear devices. No more sticking something in your ear, recharging, or getting wires out of the way. It turns on automatically with your ps3, so you are never without a microphone. Trying to get all of my ps3 buddies to get one, highly recommend it, unless you want it for a HD camera.

Q: QuestionCan u take pictures right from your PS3 eye? if so, how do you make it appear b/c it says it cant find media or is it just for motion games.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes, the PS3 eye is a fully functional capturing device for the PS3. By default, the PS3 will recognize the device and you can use it for web/video conferencing and as a microphone for in-game play. In order to capture photos and video, you will have to download the PS Eye software (free) from the PSN. After it is installed, you will have the option to capture video, pictures, and audio to be used universally on the PS3. If, after installing the software, the PS Eye still does not function properly, you may want to check the connection to the PS3 system. If all is correct there, try turning the machine off, reconnect the device and disconnect any other USB devices, and turn if back on. If that does not fix the problem, assuming all other USB devices work (controllers, USB drives, etc.) you may have a faulty PS Eye. Try replacing it if applicable through an in-store return policy or via Sony's warranty.
