Pretty good comp
Posted .This is an overall good laptop. I got it on sale for a pretty good price. It looks like a macbook. Don't plan on running intense games or extreme video graphics because of the integrated graphics card. There's no webcam, but who cares? I wouldn't use it anyway. The screen is 15.4 inch and nice bright and clear. The audio speakers has a very good quality for a laptop. I was impressed how well it handles vista. The 3gb of ram and the dual core processor make a difference. There are no media buttons for music and video controls but its not that big of a deal. All of the ports except for the ethernet and power ports are on the sides which is convenient. There are 2 usb ports on either side. Also the cd drive is on the left side, (most others are on the right). On the right side is the heat vent it gets kinda warm after a while on your lap(most other laptops do too). I purchased a usb fan and pointed at the vent and it cools it nice. It is well worth it if you get it on sale or a good price.

Oh great-- now I want one for myself...
Posted .O.K., so I went to Best Buy about a month ago to purchase a new high-def TV & a PS3 and I ended up bringing my wife along with me. After many raised eyebrow & over the shoulder looks at me while in the store, I decided to buy her a laptop first-- so as to try to make her happy also. We ended up finding a very nice 17 inch HP laptop that was on sale & unfortunately it was out in the particular store that we were at. So, off across town we went. After locating the HP laptop, talking to the salesman & paying for it (along with arranging to leave it overnight for a "cleaning" via Best Buy's tech guys), I finally was able to purchase a few other "goodies" for myself. The following day, my wife & I went to pick the HP laptop up from the store. We got the computer & decided to look for a carrying case & other small accessories. That's when i had to lug it around. I didn't tell her, but I was getting tired hauling that big brick around throughout Best Buy. All throughout the store, my wife kept saying, "Oh look honey, this white SONY Viao has a nice screen & it's smaller than the other one." She kept going on & on and I kept telling her, "Yes, but the HP had a little better specs and the screen is bigger." After not finding an accptable carrying case for the HP, my wife & I went 2 stores down to one of the national office supply places to see what kind of stuff they had for this (now seemingly getting heavier & heavier) HP laptop. Of course we couldn't find anything pretty enough for that behemoth HP laptop & soon my wife started to really get upset. We took the HP computer to the car, I turned it on & showed her how nice the screen is & how cool all the features it had was. Then I calmly asked her,"O.K.-- which one of those computers do you REALLY want." She finally told me that the one she really wanted was the White SONY Viao & she never really wanted the HP in the first place. (Ouch!!!) Being that we never really left the parking lot of Best Buy in the first place, we just took everthing back into the store & got the Viao, a different wireless mouse, and a really nice aqua / brown carrying bag to store it in. The people at Best Buy were great, they didn't give us any kind of hassle at all. We then took the new SONY Vaio home with us, (forgoing the extra costs of having Best Buy's techs setup fees), and had everything up & running in less than 1/2 an hour. Since then, I've spent many hours on this machine & never have had any problems. My wife loves the looks of her new computer & she says it fits her personality-- whatever that means. The only thing is-- now I want one. I love the fact that this thing is a SONY, its appearnce is really cool given that its texture avoids fingerprints all over it & it truly is a quite capable machine. Oh, but I'd prefer mine to be black in color. If still you're thinking about getting one of these SONY Viaos, especially for that significant woman in your life, then I'd say, "Just get one-- or better yet, just buy her what she wants--you can't go wrong!"

Core 2 Duo+3GB+$650 = Great Vaio
Posted .I got this instead of the Dell 1318. The Dell had similar specs and was smaller, lighter, and came with an extended batter. But, I decided on the Vaio. It was on sale for $650, so it was $50 cheaper. It also had a much better display and a better keyboard. I am not disappointed. The Vaio performs very well. I use it for school and can run Office 2007, Visual Studio 2008, open a web browser and listen to mp3s with little drop in performance. However, I did install a fresh copy of Vista. So, I have no bloatware running in the background. I also installed Ubuntu 8.04 and everything seems to work right out of the box. It even sees my wifi card even though I haven't used it yet. At first I I didn't like the white color, but it grew on me. The matted white surface does not pick up fingerprints at all. The keys feel great and have a good tactile feel. The display is bright and sharp inside, I haven't tried it outdoors. I'm on it many hours of the day and it doesn't bother my eyes. In fact, I use more than my desktop now because of that. At 6lbs it is a bit big and heavy for carrying around compared to the 5lb Dell, but it was an acceptable minus given the better display and keyboard. Battery life is decent. Without wifi I get about 3-4 hours, with wifi I get 2-3. Not bad for something in this price range. All that being said, this is NOT a gaming PC. If you want to play Halo 3 or Crysis look elsewhere. The integrated Intel video card just won't handle it. It handles the Aero interface, older games, and solitaire well. But, it's not made for hard-core gaming. It is, however, a GREAT student PC.

good purchase
Posted .My first laptop and at 699. on sale it was a good deal. I was online(dial up) in less than an hour. I needed to stay under 900. I considered Sony or HP. HP had about the same thing with webcam but I don't like black on my computer(black screen area), so I got this even though it is black on the bottom. My previous computer was a HP desktop pavillion, worked good, but it was at least 9 years old and slow. I think I like laptops better now. I needed to put it on a box at my desk to raise the screen, might get a laptop riser/stand. I could not figure out how to turn off the magnifier and called Sony and they were great, fixed it fast. For my needs this laptop works good and looks good. The keyboard doesn't seem durable but it probably is and I have had no problems. I recommend checking out keypads in person. I wish the very bottom and ac adapter were grey/white and not black. The Battery appears to be only 2-2 1/2. I just unplugged a/c a few minutes ago and it says 2 hrs. 36 min(94%) remaining. I got a mouse and I might get a webcam in the future but I don't need it now. Fan seems smooth and quiet. Gets normally hot, mostly in the right back and a/c gets hot, put my hot a/c on a phone book. I had to uninstall AOL stuff I did not want at control panel, features and programs.

I LOVE MY SONY!!
Posted .I've had this laptop for about 6 wks now and just love it. I'd been reading laptop reviews forever. The day I went shopping I still didn't know what I wanted until I saw the BB ad. When I saw VAIO, I could not believe the price. I know it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the first VAIO's, but this is perfect for me. I have no need for the camera, nor do I do gaming, but I do have windows open all over the place, editing photos, burning CD/DVD's and she never slows down. As far as the white keyboard, if you wash your hands she will stay beautiful. This is my second laptop, my first was Dell which never ran as fast as the Sony, even on day one. Also crashed motherboard at 14 mos. old!! I am shocked how cool this runs. After running all evening, it's only slightly warm!! My Dell had to cool off after an hour. Best purchase ever!!!

Amazing Product
Posted .I just went to bestbuy today and picked up this laptop. I am so happy that I chose this one because of its appeal both in its performance and its style. First off, I just plugged it in and started it up and it was ready to go. The speed of the laptop amazes me, basically just as fast as my computer. Secondly, the hard drive and processor speed are perfect for the price of this laptop. Even though I bought this laptop while it was on sale, I would just as quickly buy it for its original price because of how well it performs. I've been searching for a laptop ever since the summer began. I'm 16 years old and I've been saving up for a laptop for a while and I'm glad I chose this one. I can't really find any cons for this laptop unless I get really picky and complain about the kind of hot charger. This is a great product and you should definitly buy it from bestbuy because of their amaizng customer service etc. I wrote this review on my new laptop :)

The Sony Vaio is in a league of its own.
Posted .I bought this computer a couple of days ago and wow! The dynamics of this computer are explosive (in a good way). The speed, the size of ram, the screen quality, and the cooperation between vista and sony makes it very easy for the user to navigate through files and such. As anyone knows, Sony Vaio is pretty high up there in terms of reputation. I know Sony makes pretty good HDTV's but I was pretty skeptical of their ability to produce efficient and reliable laptops. Rest assured...Think of HP, Gateway, or a Dell computer similar to a Chevy, Ford or Cadillac...They're not bad cars, but the Sony is like a Bentley or Mercedes..you just can't compare certain things in life..Trust me, go with the Sony, especially for the price.
