I really like this computer a lot. It's very convenient for me and my friends. The only problem is that it's really slow. I know its supposed to be VERY fast but whenever I want to use the Internet, its slow as BUTT!! So overall, i LOVE the computer but when it comes to the internet it's kinda slow. It might be because I'm using wireless internet but I don't know. Well thanks!!! Byee!I would recommend this to a friend

excellent buyPosted .
i would say that i fell in love with this laptop. i know a lot about computers, and i was considering a long time before buying one. i'm completely satisfied with this sony vaio so far. hope it lasts a long time :) so: i was reading lots of reviewers complaining about the touch pad. well, it is good enough. not as great as my previous one, but not bad either. the pad is not smooth, but it's definitely not making the pointer go in random directions. the network card, the screen, and keyboard are perfect, no complaints. little to no bloatware, except trial ms office and norton AV. the color is good too. light and doesn't get hot. very quiet. specs are worth the price considering it is a sony. otherwise, there is the same computer but $100 cheaper if you go with Acer.I would recommend this to a friend

A quality PC at a good price!Posted .
This is my first Sony PC. The first thing that attracted me to this machine was its looks and stying - the white keyboard and the silvery top really make this machine stand out, and make you feel good about your purchase. Unlike most other machines today, this machine is immune to fingerprints, hairs, and smudges. The top and bottom of the machine appear to be scratch resistant. The second thing that attracted me to this machine was its build quality. If you look critically at the machine in the store, it is built better than most other machines in its price class. Of particular note is the quality of build on the side edges, where all the user ports and other connections are. The appear quite solid and well made. I really like the feel and performance of the touchpad on this machine - the tactile, slightly frictiony surface make it a better experience than most other touchpads today. I also really like the keyboard - it is full-size, and very responsive. I really like the white color also. The display is excellent - as you would expect from Sony. What really impressed me in the end was the competitive price of the machine! It has all the features of other machine of this class, and basically the same price. I have been using the machine heavily for a week now. I find it is really fast and responsive. I like the machine more and more. I did a little snooping under the hood, and verified that the i3 processor used in this machine has Intel VT (Virtualization Technology), and that Sony has incorporated in its BIOS a means to switch it on. This means thast if you upgrade to Windows 7 Professional (for $89.99), you will be able to use XP mode on this machine. I may find a need for this feature in the future. The Vaio Care software included by Sony with this machine is very useful! There is very little bloatware packaged in the machine by Sony - making for a very clean initial build. I highly recommend that users follow Sony's instructions to create your recovery disks as soon as possible, and to also do a complete backup of your system using the excellent utility built into Windows 7. The only criticism I have for the system is the lack of a printed user's manual - but Sony provides a very good one that you can access through your machine. For the price, this is clearly an exellent machine, and I am very happy with my purchase.I would recommend this to a friend

Very happy so far...Posted .
I performed hours of research before settling on this box. I chose this model because of price, specs, the Sony name, and other user's reviews. I really wanted a Core I5 processor, but the only choice in this price range was from Samsung and I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on a Samsung. I just felt safer going with the Sony, even in spite of the glowing reviews the Samsung gets. I don't regret my decision. I'm a web designer/developer and I do most of my work on a desktop workstation, but I wanted something to travel with. This box is solid, performs well, was easy to get going, and I feel like it's a great value for under 7 bills. The Core I3 runs Adobe Creative Suite 4 like a champ, so no worries there. I also have other dev apps running alongside multiple browser windows and two different streaming music apps playing at the same time. The box stays cool and unlike other laptops, does not attract fingerprints like a magnet. The keyboard is great, the screen is better than good, but not quite perfect... I don't have issues with the location of the USB ports like some users have written about, and so far I haven't experienced any jumpy mouse problems. I rarely run this machine using only the battery, so I'm not the best reviewer to get battery life performance specs from... Overall, I'm very happy with the machine and would buy it again. I'd give it 4 and a half stars if that was possible... I'm not really a five star guy unless something is absolutely perfect, so 4 and a half stars is very complimentary for me.I would recommend this to a friend

So far so good, with minor design quibblesPosted .
I needed to replace my woefully outdated '03 desktop and got burned (literally) on my first laptop purchase with one of the HP models that got so hot they fried their own connections. I knew I wasn't going back to HP, and the Sony Vaio was the first real contender when I began my search around Thanksgiving. I drove myself a little bit crazy for a few months looking for the perfect configuration/price/reliability combination, (Asus was the other contender) and when I came across this one, I finally got over my commitment issues and went all in. I'm really happy with the purchase so far. My biggest concern was speed, and the i3 processor is performing up to and beyond my expectations. I'm not a heavy user - mostly just browsing, streaming video, and some 2D games - so I can't say it would be enough horsepower for you if you're doing serious gaming or movie editing, etc. But I think any average user would be pleased. The laptop is also very cool and quiet. I love the look and feel of the keyboard and the touchpad has a very nicely textured surface - enough so that you have a sense of traction, but not enough to be irritating to your finger. My complaints - the speakers are pretty awful. I'm not a sound quality snob, but these are really bad, even just for things like YouTube videos. Low, tinny, fuzzy. I've found a cool flexible USB speaker, but the USB ports are in such an awkward place that anything you plug in will get in the way if you're a rightie using a wireless mouse. As someone else mentioned, the power button is also positioned poorly, in a spot where you're likely to grab the laptop if you're moving it while it's open. I'm also not a fan of the full number pad because I'd prefer for my hands to be centered in front of the screen while typing, but I can see how it would be handy for a lot of people. Those are all minor things for the most part. Overall, I'm really pleased so far! One other little thing - if you're worried about the "glitter" - it's more of a shimmer effect than in-your-face princess glitter. I'm not a pink sparkly Barbie girl, but I do like a little bit of chic glam, and I think it's a great-looking detail.I would recommend this to a friend

Sony > MacbookPosted .
This laptop is great. My parents bought one 2 days ago to replace an old and obselete Dell computer with Windows XP. I was amazed at the ease of use. I am a college student and a Mac user as of 3 years now. I was shocked to learn that this computer has 4x the memory as my Macbook. Even the new macbooks only have 2 GB, this Sony has 4. For less than half the price I paid for my macbook, you get 4X the memory. It also has more USB ports and a bigger hard drive. It's a no-brainer. It also has a newer Intel processer than the current macbooks. If it's between a Sony and a Mac for you, go with the Sony. Macs are not nearly as problem-free as Apple would have you believe. My hard drive crashed after only 1.5 years of use. I lost everything and had to buy a brand new drive (about $120) for an essentially new computer. Also, my macbook has begun to have a habit of freezing, shutting down applications unexpectedly (sometimes causing me to lose work), and now the keyboard stops working sometimes. No computer is perfect, but this Sony is the closest I've seen. Windows 7 required virtually no set-up. I remember last time I bought a PC (nearly 8 years ago now), I spent hours sitting at the computer installing hardware. Not so with the Sony. It was up and running in a few minutes. Even my mother who does not have much experience with computers had no trouble at all using the Sony. It's so easy. Sony was recommended to us by a BestBuy employee. He said they last longer and that personally it was his favorite brand. If the people who know the most about computers like Sony that much, they must be doing something right. The screen is a great size as well. Other people have said the speakers were not very good, I haven't run into this problem at all. They are far more powerful than those on my macbook! The fan is ultra-quiet. I was watching a movie and had to put my ear up to the computer to even tell if the fan was on or not. I would definitely be getting a Sony for my next computer and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a computer with decent capabilities that won't cost you your child's college tuition. So long, Apple!I would recommend this to a friend

Great LaptopPosted .
My first laptop. Very portable. Basically ready to use right out of the box. Read reviews that the battery life was short. Like all laptops, that depends how it's used. Battery life could be longer, but it's not as bad as some write about. Runs Win7 flawlessly. It's a bit more $$$ than I think it should be, but since it's my 1st laptop, I've got nothing to compare it to...so I may be off track in my opinion here. I've had absolutely no problems with this unit's performance. It updates without problems...adds software....no problems...recognizes hardware and installs it without delay and does so quickly. I would definitely buy another Sony...the bar has been raised. I had purchased an Asus initially, but took that back because of many issues including freezing up. This model is in the same price range....can't belive the difference in the two. This is one great laptop.I would recommend this to a friend

This computer is fantasticPosted .
I bought this product approximately 3 weeks ago and it has performed great. I use it for writing papers for school all the time and have several windows open all the time, all with many tabs open as well and this computer handles it easily. I also use it for light gaming on the side and this computer handles that easily too. I played Portal on medium settings without any glitches or pauses or anything. I recognize that this computer wasn't meant for gaming but for those of you out there who are thinking of doing some gaming and think this computer is too cheap to handle it, its not. The chicklet-style keyboard is also really nice, just wish it was backlit. At first i was a little worried about the size and weight because i like to take my computer with me and need it to be portable, but after 3 weeks of carrying it around i have had no problems. For its size it is fairly light and easy to carry. One thing I do not like is how reflective the screen is, in direct sunlight i was having trouble seeing the screen through the glare, but this is a minor problem that can be avoided. All in all I am very pleased with this computer and would recommend it to anyone.I would recommend this to a friend
