Very happy with this phone. Beautiful and simple design, nice matte finish on the back.
5G is fast and the call quality is clear/loud compare to the X1 II. I've had Samsung Note 20 ultra and S21 before this but i experienced completely lost of signal on both phones went the phone switching from 5G to LTE. This phone doesn't have this issue so far. Reception wasn't the best on the X1 II so i could tell the improvement on this phone.
Awesome 4K display and sound quality which is something i truly enjoy with Sony phones. Camera has improved as well especially wide angle with much better clarity and detail.
This phone has a minor overheating issue due to the SD888 chipset but the new software update 61.0.A.11.92 rolling out now fixed this issue and improved battery life as well. Very solid phone and now i enjoy it much more after the update. Very solid phone, great upgrade from my Xperia 1 II.
I've had an iphone for years and decided to finally make a switch. The good reviews for this phone and the specs made me incredibly interested, so I went for it. Well I've been using this phone for a while now and I love it. I've taken some fantastic pictures with this. I love the software and smart features for the camera. The dedicated camera button makes it so easy to quickly take pictures. I was able to take great pics of my dogs and nieces, which as we all know, taking pictures of animals and children are the biggest challenge! I was super impressed. The battery life is decent. The phone charges quickly and as someone that uses their phone all day, I'm satisfied with it. The screen and display is great, I love how the colors look more vibrant, and I love being able to toggle the 120hz refresh rate.
One of my favorite things is how the phone fits in my hand. My issue is that I have small hands, so I had trouble using my iPhone 11 one-handed. This phone is very slim, I love it. It's not too wide so it makes one handed use very easy and comfortable. Overall I'm highly satisfied and don't really miss anything about my old phone.
My opinion of this phone is so high that I felt inclined to leave a review.
For background, I generally purchase higher end phones such as S20 Ultra, Google Pixel, or flagship iPhone of the day. I bought the Xperia 1 iii for the expandable SD slot, headphone jack, high end chipset, and numerous upgrades in the display versus other phones.
Given my focus on audiophile qualities, that was a major driver, because I wanted a better mobile solution. Having a DAP is great on day 1, but carrying around two devices, charging two devices is just inconvenient. I have a nice DAC (Chord Mojo) but all the cords are inconvenient. So I saw this phone as a great option to simplify mobile listening without sacrificing sound quality.
End result -- I got exactly what I wanted (with a few caveats). I used two earphones with these -- wired (Shure SE846) and Bluetooth (Sony WH-1000xm3). I am happy with how both sound. While the SE846 obviously has better detail and resolution, both have great dynamics in percussion, resolve the low end notes VERY WELL, and tend to a very balanced sound overall. I will say, it's not Chord Mojo quality....when the song gets really full and busy, the details suffer a bit but to be honest I am looking for that and casual listening is no problem.
Now the main caveat -- I used both Qobuz and Tidal on this phone and on these earphones, Tidal was the winner....by a MILE! Tidal sounds so good with these earphones, that I actually wondered whether Sony tuned the equipment with Tidal in mind. Given they have Tidal as a 3 month free trial app, that speculation is very fair.
With all that said, you couple the expandable SD slot for music storage, the headphone jack (which is well done, noise free), great quality with Tidal, and then low file size on Tidal to download mounds of music....that's amazing.
Few other points, the screen lives up to the hype. Great quality! Watch the surrealistic scenes in Dr. Strange and it says everything that needs to be said. Far beyond what Samsung and iPhone are capable of.
One other caveat -- the complaints on phone battery are open to criticism. With that said, higher demands with apps, 120 hz refresh rate, etc. take energy and what's the point of buying the premium phone and then throttling back the features. My very loose estimate is that with normal usage, you'll get 10 hours or so before your searching for a charger.
Underrated. Not sure what reviewers are smoking on utube. Most of the time utube reviewers are best and making videos and are not the best product evaluators. I have iPhone 13 pro and Sony phone. The video quality is way better on Sony. Much smoother, less jitter, true colors. A big complaint I've seen is comparing photos, and so they claim this phone takes poor focusing photos. They are using it on automode. When using in manual mode this phone camera blows iphone 13 pro out of the water. Not even close. Most utube reviewers are just not that technical or intelligent enough to figure out how to use manual mode. Most ppl nowadays are lazy too.
So far I am in love with this phone. The smoothness of use. Processing speed. Excellent screen. Best battery life I've ever had in a phone. I get eight hours easy with heavy gaming, streaming. No over heating issues whatsoever for me. Charging is quick with included charger. I'm on TMobile and 5g seems to give me a more stable connection where available but not sure about speed increase yet. I'm coming from Xperia XZ so this was biggest leap phone to phone I've had since going from my first flip phone to smart phone. I'm a Sony fan boy and I love this phone. Those photos were taken in dark room. Shows how filters can brighten significantly. And flower I was playing with zoom which is insane.
For the longest time I've been dreaming of the perfect android phone; amazing hardware and smooth software running on stock android. Well here it is, finally, with the Sony Xperia 1 III. An astonishing camera, gorgeous display, wonderful audio quality with 3.5mm jack and LDAC and a lightning fast UI running on near stock android, this is easily the greatest experience I've had with an android device to date.
I replaced my Sony Experia 1 Mk II with this phone. Better battery life and better performance. Almost the identical size. 120hz refresh is great for the display. Love that Sony kept the headphone port and the fingerprint sensor on the power button. I also love the SD card for extra storage. I just swapped it in my new phone and all my pictures and data were there. Only wish there was AT&T 5G support. But AT&T 4G plus is quite fast. New camera has lots more lenses and customizable features.
The analysis of all aggregated expert reviews shows that the reviewers are positive about reliability, size, connectivity and portability. Editors are less positive about price and battery and have mixed opinions about camera. Using an algorithm based on product age, reviewers ratings history, popularity, product category expertise and other factors, this product gets an alaTest Expert Rating of 95/100 = Excellent quality.
Sony Xperia 1 III ReviewThe Sony Xperia 1 III is a phone made for a very specific user who'd want the most high-res screen on the market, a microSD card slot, and probably the best interface for multitasking, but that comes at an exorbitant price and disappointments in a
A:AnswerThat is a bogus answer you received from the other person. Wifi calling is a feature that can be implemented by either the manufacturer or carrier of your service. I know this because I bought a Samsung Galaxy S10+ and it was the unlocked variant. I added my existing sim card to it and wifi calling was in the options setup. My girlfriend has a Sony XZ2 Compact and it isn't an option. I also had the XZ Premium and it did not have wifi calling either. My Pixel 5 also has wifi and I bought the unlocked variant as well. Like I said Sony is just dropping the ball with wifi calling. I know this because the Xperia 1 II didn't include it either. I'm sure the Xperia 1 III won't have it as well. That being said I still pre ordered and will just take my pixel along with me in case I need that feature when traveling and if I have to I'll swap my sim card. It's amazing Sony gets so much right but they leave out such an important feature.
A:AnswerNope, Best Buy seems to be doing their Best to ghost everyone on this. I ordered mine on July 6 and have received only one update highlighting the mid Aug release dates. Call/chat with customer service and they have zero info in front of them to provide any insight. If Sony is not diligently updating major vendors like Best Buy shame on them. If this extends into October I'm done. Only so much patience for this product and lack of customer information. I did receive the headphones by the way, which are nice. But would have rather received the phone and be left wondering where the headphones were.
