Synopsis

The Crazies
Sahara director Breck Eisner teams with screenwriters Ray Wright (Pulse) and Scott Kosar (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) to give George A. Romero's underrated 1973 shocker a shiny new makeover in this update starring Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell. Perform a Google search on "small-town America," and eventually you'll stumble across Ogden Marsh, a picturesque hamlet situated a safe distance from the nearest big city, and full of friendly faces. The citizens of Ogden Marsh are happy, albeit unremarkable people, but they're about to discover just how fragile their warm slice of the American dream really is. When a mysterious toxin transforms the locals into murderous maniacs, it's up to Sheriff David Dutton (Olyphant) to find out why a man who was once an upstanding citizen would attempt to massacre the local youth baseball team, and a caring father would burn his beloved family alive. Within hours the town has descended into total chaos, and the government has ordered it quarantined. Anyone who attempts to escape will be shot on sight, whether they're infected or not. Realizing that their only hope for survival is to fight through the madness that has consumed their once-quiet town, Sheriff Dutton, his pregnant wife, Judy (Mitchell), his deputy Russell (Joe Anderson), and frightened medical center assistant Becca (Danielle Panabaker) wage an epic struggle to discover the source of this malevolent scourge while fending off their infected friends and neighbors. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

In the small town of Ogden Marsh in a nearby swamp, there was an airplane that crash lands in it contaminating the town's water supply with chemicals. The people who drink from the water turn into homicidal maniacs who look like zombies as it seems some government contamination unites are blocking the town, Sheriff Dutton (Timothy Olyphant) with pregnant wife Judy (Radha Mitchell) including Deputy Russell (Joe Anderson) and Becca (Danielle Panabaker) are escaping the town to get to the major city for a new home unless they can get out alive. Terrifying and brilliant remake of the obscure George Romero cult fave, this Sci-fi horror thriller is better than one of Romero's weaker efforts (Dawn of the Dead with Night and Day were better including martin). This is a fantastic reimagining that will rank with "The Thing", "The Fly", "Dawn of the Dead", "The Blob", "King Kong" etc in terms of great genre remakes. The acting is just superb and the action is plentiful, George A. Romero executive produced this one here which makes it an A on my list. This Blu-Ray gives the viewer that theatrical experience through flawless picture and sound that skyrockets to the roof. The extras are terrific such as audio commentary, featurettes, storyboards, 2 motion comics, photo gallery and teasers to trailers. A must have for Sci-fi/horror fanatics.

The Crazies is one of the few 'horror' movies I felt actually lived up to its trailer. While most horror films show all the best parts in the trailer and have nothing left to show you once you pay, The Crazies tells a cohesive story where the characters don't make you cringe with their idiotic choices. More than a straight horror film, it delves into suspense/thriller and disaster genres as well. While this evolution may turn off straight horror fans, for me it seemed to give the film some longevity, no third act dropoff here!

Plot takes a backseat to suspense, and action

    Essential

I will start by saying that I did like this movie. It had lots of tense moments, and some stylish action. The acting was pretty good. My only complaint is that the plot was not explored enough. They speak maybe a couple times very vaguely about why all this carnage is happening, and the rest of the movie everyone is just running wild. It is worth watching though, and would be a good addition to your DVD collection.

Loved the movie. We saw it at the theater first and purchased the DVD because we wanted to see it again. The Snickering Boy's laugh was great and even had others in the theater laughing during a climax scene. Very impressed by the director's vision and the ending really surprised me but was a great twist. Highly recommend it to others.

I never saw the original and I'm not big on remakes, but I really enjoy this movie. After watching it a few times on cable over the years I decided I needed to just have this in my collection. A fun, creepy horror movie and thriller. If you like these kind of movies I recommend checking it out.

This movie was nothing like I expected it to be! I thought it was going to be another zomie type movie where someone eats a bad burger and is turned into a monster, but it was completely different and original. A must see for anyone who likes a good suspenseful horror flick!

The film was pretty good for the horror/sci-fi genre. I gave it a 4-Star rating on the strength of Timothy Olyphant's role in the film. After all, an Olyphant completist would not let this be the only film to go unwatched.

The movie reminds me of the old "B" horror movies from the past. You know how it will end, but you keep watching anyway. It was fun to see a movie, just be a movie w/out the extras. The plot is simple, the acting is good.
