This game is a classic. Its story and characters are loved by all who played it originally on the Nintendo DS. This remake is a great way to play it if you have never before. Helmed by the genius who created Kingdom Hearts you know shenanigans will entail in this reaper's game to regain what you have lost.
This game won't get 5 stars due to its controls. Its handheld mode is a port of the mobile version which is 100% touchscreen. It works and is the best way to play this version. When docked this game uses motion controls from the joycon and precise movements and attacks can be hard to perform. Despite boasting co-op this works better as a single player game due to the controls.
This game has new content which brings more questions than answers. Overall its a unique addition to the switch. If you have never played the game definitely give it a try. If you have played it then it will depend on how you feel about the controls and short extra chapter before buying.
PS: The music is remixed for this version. It can be toggled on and off. This game has a legendary soundtrack so it works both ways.

The new HD graphics, updated soundtrack and extra content make this port of the iOS version of the game worth getting for fans of the original and those new to the game. However I would caution against trying to play in console mode as the controls are somewhat lacking.

This is a port of the ds game. Right off the bad the game looks amazing. The sprites are updated from the ds game. Looks fantastic.
The gameplay is best when you play in handheld mode. You just swipe, tap, scratch away. You use pins in order to fight. Each pin gives different abilities and can evolve into something different. You also have a partner that you can control in some way. If you have a friend you can do co op to make it easier.
I don't recomend playing in dock mode.
The music is fantastic.
The story is great in my opinion. You start with an unlikable character and you see him grow. You meet new characters and they add to his character.
If you never played the game I recommend it. Those who already played it might not like it's price for a port and might want a price decrease before getting it. Either way I recommend it when you get the chance.

If you're looking to play a Nintendo Switch game with great music and neat visuals, The World Ends With You - Final Remix - is where its at. The story from the original DS, mixed in with some new content, improved visuals, and remixed tracks all come together greatly in this Switch port.
What's more is that you can play through the entire story with another player in co-op. While exploring the streets of Shibuya can only be done with the first player, there are certain instances where the second player can interact, specifically in combat.
While combat itself is flashy, there is this slight disconnection with the gameplay controls. Controls are only limited to the touch-screen and motion controls with the Joy-Cons. This relates to both single player and multiplayer. In this case, combat may seem a bit slow-paced at first, but if you are comfortable with such controls, these tnings should seep right in.
Overall, The World Ends With You - Final Remix - is worth the experience on the Switch.

As a fan of the original DS version I can't talk up this game enough. If you're new to the game, and like Square Enix titles, or JRPGs that AREN'T turnbased, or edgy teens who have to very literally fight for their lives and utilize the power of life lessons and friendship at critical moments..please give this game a try. Everyone who's complaining about the controls should be playing handheld for sure. The revised graphics, quality upgrade for the soundtrack, new music tracks and even story content make this truly the definitive edition, even if the controls aren't 100% the same. -AND- the new Co-Op mode makes SO much sense for this title and really is fun, even though I felt like it made us very OP. I have collected all the secret reports...and feel it was so worth it :)

The core idea of TWEWY is pretty fun. Use badges for abilities to fight monsters. And the story, while mucky in places, isn't bad. But sadly that's about where the benefits end.
The controls in this game are awful. Part of it is the switch not being designed for the game. The touchscreen is much larger than the 3DS it was originally designed for. Part of it is the game itself. There are only a handful of ways to activate abilities. And almost all of them are motion controlled. This means you often run into the problem of badges overlapping in terms of activation. When they don't, you struggle to trigger the right one based on your movements. It leads to a cluster of things going wrong at once.
The bonus content was a nice bonus. But I honestly can't in good conscious recommend this game. The controls just left so much to be desired. The problems I have with the core gameplay, like how the badges level up based on different types of experience and evolving can be easily messed up, don't help. I can see something really awesome below the surface. Sadly, I don't think it even came close to the potential it held.

I had played this game briefly on the Nintendo DS, and played it fully through when it was released on IOS on my iPad.
This is a direct port of the IOS release, and looks and sounds great. The story is still compelling years later, and the constructs between character interaction, combat structure, and RPG mechanics all work great.
What doesn’t work great are the controls. There are two methods of control, one which uses a point cursor and motion controls to draw the designated shapes to trigger attacks when docked, and one that uses your finger on the screen to do the same when in handheld mode. The latter is the same experience as I had on the IPAD, but feels slightly more cramped on the switch screen. I had been really looking forward to a proper console experience on the tv, but found the point controls both overly sensitive and less effective, which hinders combat and therefore the rewards you obtain.
I would love o see them patch in a new control scheme, but think it is unlikely. I would strongly suggest that this is a fantastic game to play but worth renting or borrowing to see if the controls resonate before making the purchase.

The game hold up after all this time. Music is catchy, gameplay loop is fun enough, and I still really like the story. I heard a lot of people complain about the joy-con controls in this game, and at first they are super annoying. However, after a bit of time getting used to them, playing on the tv is not as bad as you would think. Handheld mode plays just like the game did on iOS. The reversible cover art is awesome.
