Q: QuestionHello.....is there a significant difference between the AX55 and the AX55 Pro?(1 answer)
A: AnswerThe key difference between the routers is the speed supported by the WAN Port. On the normal (non-Pro) AX3000 model, it supports up to 1 Gbps (1000 Mbps) Ethernet connectivity. On the Pro model, it supports up to 2.5 Gbps (2500 Mbps).Answered by TPLinkSupport
- A: AnswerThe Pro version has a strong wifi amplifier for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels. 180 feet through walls may be a weak signal so slow speeds. If you add an RE715X extender in Mesh mode with better line of site or even near a wall facing your workshop it would help. You'll need to test different locations and antenna patterns to get the best signal strength. The router itself has a very strong signal... way better than my ac1200 access points in my previous setup and those would reach far distances. But the AX3000 pro is at least 10dB stronger. Maybe even 15dB. And even the 5GHz band is very strong which surprised me. Its a great and stable router but update the firmware before you set it up.

- A: AnswerHi! Static IP Addressing is performed on the client device (printer, computer, etc.) only. For the router, you can instead opt to use the DHCP Address Reservation feature. This allows you to ensure the router's DHCP server only assigns a specific IP address to a device, based on that device's MAC (Media Access Control) address. While it achieves a similar end result, Static IP and DHCP Reservation use different methods to reach a similar goal.

- A: AnswerHi! Both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands are simultaneously broadcast and available for your devices. If you have bulbs that only support 2.4 GHz, then by default, they will only see and connect to the router's 2.4 GHz network.

- A: AnswerHi! The router supports VPN pass-through, so you can use the VPN connection/software on your computer to establish a VPN tunnel to your employer's VPN server.

Q: QuestionWhat the coverage for this device in square footage?(2 answers)
A: AnswerBeamforming technology and four high-gain antennas focus signal strength towards your devices for strong, reliable Wi-Fi throughout your home. That being said, Wi-Fi coverage will depend on numerous variables, including, but not limited to: - Placement of the router (central location is typically ideal) - Physical obstructions between the router and your devices (e.g. walls, etc.) - Distance between the router and your devices - Which Wi-Fi band you are connecting to (2.4GHz vs. 5GHz)Answered by TPLinkSupport
- A: AnswerHello Samuel, The advertised speeds via Wireless i.e. AX3000 are the combined network transmit rates of both bands. It is not the wireless internet speeds you will see. That is different and not something we can guarantee or advertise. The ethernet speeds of up to 2.5Gbps are based on the Ethernet port on your modem, the router, and the ethernet cable used between the two devices. LAN side depends on the LAN port on the router the ethernet port on your client and the ethernet cable. The LAN ports are only capable of up to 1 Gbps. So it is possible you are getting the most you are able to get based on the factors above. We do still recommend contacting support for more assistance.

Works Great!
Setup unit in the pantry in the middle of house. Have not found any weak areas anywhere inside house and noted that wifi is more available in my yard. Would buy again if I needed another one for a different location.
