    Synopsis

    Vacation
Rusty Griswold, the youngest child from 1983's National Lampoon's Vacation is all grown up with a family of his own and fond childhood memories of a certain family road trip to Walley World, "America's Favorite Family Fun Park." Yes... the new Vacation was unleashed to the average moviegoer last summer, debuting to lousy critical notice, even worse box office (Though a sequel is still planned since it did gross around $100 million worldwide on a $30 million dollar budget) but did fairly well with audiences according to CinemaScore with a solid B.... way better than most comedies this day and age but still its not that good of a movie in my opinion. This film is a reboot/sequel/remake of the original film, where Rusty Griswold is the family man this time around (Played by Ed Helms) with a family of his own consisting of his wife Debbie (Christina Applegate) and two sons, Kevin & James. The family all tire of going to the same cabin year in and year out, so Rusty decides to take his family to Wally World, hoping to strengthen the bond of his family and relive his past trip to Wally World 30 years prior. And hijinks ensue with stops at Debbie's old college sorority, run-ins with a mysterious trucker, a stop at an all "natural" hot spring and more all without the same charm and hilarity as the original film. The film has a great and talented cast, but the character of Rusty is all wrong. Ed Helms performance is okay, but the approach is not Rusty at all from the previous films. In the older films, Rusty is a witty, smart alleck kid who is cooler and even headed and is wise beyond his years, but in this film, he is mild mannered, and a bit of a doofus, which is Clark not Rusty. The kids are hugely annoying and one-sided (Look the other brother is a gentle hearted weakling! Look the younger brother is a foul-mouthed brat!), Audrey became hugely stupid and also unbelievable to the original character and seemingly only married her husband (A very game Chris Hemsworth, one of the best parts of the film!) for a man, the car is just a redo of the Truckster, and the humor is gross-out and expletive filled. I'm no lightweight when it comes to comedy, I love gross out comedy, but only if it suits the style of the film or stays true to the original film but this film is gross and brass for the sake of being gross and brass. Sure, I laughed at the whole hot springs scene, and the scene where a steer meets a 4-wheeler and Debbie vomits profusely after chugging a whole pitcher of beer and being repeatedly struck with teddy bears and other obstacles (Don't ask!), but the original's humor lie with the escalating situation of the ensuing journey and the slow descent into madness with Clark leading to one of the all time best verbal blow ups ever filmed. So if you like crude comedy that is unneeded and characters that are unfaithful to their previous incarnations, then by all means buy it, but even then, wait for it to hit $10 or less. The PQ and AQ are tiptop, with the modern digital photography looking sharp and colorful and the audio, when the occasion calls for it, surrounds the viewer with nice separation of sound effects and music and all heard loud and clear. No complaints here. The extras, are unfortunately fairly lackluster, with only a couple of decent EPK's with only a smidgen of BTS, and loads of talking heads saying its soo much fun being on the set and being part of a legacy. Meh. The deleted scenes are ok, but nothing worth being put in the film and the gag reel is terribly unfunny (OMG!!!!!) with the last feature being an advertisement on the state of Georgia and how filming there was such an amazing experience. A DVD and a DC is also included to round off the package. So in all fairness, just rent it from Redbox, or just catch it on TBS where its bound to end up in a few years and totally not worth your time.

Just Too Much Of The F Word In The Movie

This could have been a really good movie, if they had only left out at least two thirds of the "F" word. I mean, I don't mind a couple thrown in through out a movie but unfortunately it was just all the way through the movie. Even the kids saying it. Not to mention the rap song that had it from start to finish. I love the old Lampoon Vacation as much or more than anyone. I own most of them. I also own this movie on Blu-Ray but I wish I had saved my money. Take out MOST of the langue and it would be a REALLY funny movie like the rest of the originals were. I really can't recommend this movie. I honestly wish I could. On the other hand, if you do like hearing the word in a movie from start to finish, you will probably say I'm nuts for my review and don't know what I'm talking about. I guess decide for yourself, but you might not want to take smaller kids with you.

They tried to make a movie in rememberance of the Chevy Chase classics, but didn't capture the same feel. Granted, that doesn't have to be a bad thing. It just means that they used a different formula for this movie. It had some pretty funny parts and was entertaining. Although, if you changed their names and take out the short cameo from the Parents, you might not know it was in the same world as the other movies. I did enjoy it though. As long as you can watch it without trying to compare it the style of the other movies, you'll be good. The humor in this one is more in the crude side as opposed to a squirrel chase scene or mr Nick papagorgio. It's a fun movie and has some funny scenes. Well worth a watch.

This was a great movie I wanted to find it on Blu-ray and Best Buy had it on sale for the same price as the standard DVD. Unfortunately after looking for a half an hour on the shelves to only find the standard dvd copy I finally found an employee who offered to look it up for me just to find out that it was stored in the back room and not on the shelf. If you can't find something it's probably locked up. This is the 2nd time this has happen to me. But for the great price I paid for a brand new great flick it was worth the trouble!

I had high expectations on this movie and I'm glad I didn't spend the money to go see it in theaters, this movie with me had its ups and downs, some parts were funny and others were just plain aghhh to be honest my only favorite part of this movie was to see Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo together as the original Mr. & Mrs. Griswold, but thats just me I feel they should have had more of the original actors/actresses in this movie it just wasn't the sambaed I can respect that they wanted to re-franchise this product but to me this was a fail. Again some parts was funny and others were just boring...

I'm a HUGE Vacation fan...and went to see this new one fresh except for the trailers. Let me say this upfront....It's very funny, BUT, it's also very raunchy. I have a high tolerance for that, and still found myself cringing a few times. Funny that there was an "older" couple behind me in the theater, with their teen "kids/grand-kids". They were laughing HARD the first few minutes, then the lady says "this is too much" and they almost left...but she said "no, it's funny". They stayed all the way and we're laughing most of the whole way. BUT it is uncomfortable at times. Still, it was VERY funny.

I am a huge fan of all 4 vacation fills even Vegas vacation. I love Chevy Chase. This fill was a victim of a very bad script. It could have been so much better. I love the basic plot the son rusty taking his own family on a vacation like that of his youth. Every other joke is so raunchy and crude that I refuse to keep this movie in my personal collection, I can overlook one or two jokes or even a scene but this movie pushes the line and takes it too far. Not funny, a real shame. Could have been so much better.

Was worried about another reboot/sequel to the Vacation series. Numbers 3 and 4 are my favorites (never saw the Uncle Eddie tv movie). Plus, Ed Helms is hit or miss. But this movie stands alone as a funny and successful entry in the series. All the actors connected and the brothers reminded me of my own sons. I'm glad some of the humor was R-rated and not toned down, very surprising considering the PG-13 of the previous 3 sequels.
