Nothing like the ad video

The dog looks the same as the dog in video - that’s where the similarities end. It doesn’t work well carpet with the possible exception of commercial carpet. It does not avoid objects well. It couldn’t detect chair or coffee table legs and often got stuck on them. The wristband and ball interact with the dog via lights so they require line of sight and are not reliable, especially the ball, which often stops with the light facing the ground or the other direction. The ad video also covers over or removes the sound of the motors, which are louder than most cheap remote control cars my kids have had. Please consider these 2 pieces of advice: buy from a reputable store like BB so you can return it if you want to, and for the sake of your kids, try it out before Christmas to determine if you think it’s any good. Don’t wait until it’s too late and you end of with frustrated, disappointmented kids.

I read a ton of reviews before I bought: please consider the dates on these reviews. The frequent firmware and software (app) updates have taken care of several issues - though no doubt have introduced a few more. We've had a few fun days with Chip (now named Max) but my only concern is how long will he remain interesting. One reviewer said get a good RC car instead... may be good advice!
Here are my quick pros and cons list:
pros - easy to set up (use right away without app). seems durable - at least so far. smartband controller, great idea! the bluetooth part seems to work well but sort of weak when Chip has to "see" the IR to home in on the band. remote "driving" control is awesome. ball is great! fetch is fun, soccer even better. volume control (in app) is much appreciated. Also in app you can change voice trigger: have child "owner" program it in quiet room and talk (loud) to the dog, not the phone. "Hey Max" now works for son, but "Hey Chip" still works better for me. Funny.
cons - needs low speed in addition to med/high selections (in app). motors are really noisy! he can NOT navigate around ANYTHING. Needs a wide open room with line of sight to band, ball, and charger. I hope this changes in future firmware - put that gyro motion sensor to work: if he gets stuck, back up, turn a little, try again... something. also very hit and miss getting back in his charger. one day gets it right every time, next day he misses by 1 ft.
Probably time for the daily firmware update.
Cool toy for early adoptors, but yet to be seen if we keep him past the return period.

Read the review that said they set it up before giving as a gift. BEST TIP Update the app / buy batteries for the ball / charge watch / Get used to how he functions before giving it to the recipient. If you don’t it will be a headache trying to get him up and running while your kid is waiting. Note: his wheels are rather loud on hardwood floors

My son has been eye-balling this for quite some time now, so I got it for him as a birthday gift. He has mastered the wristband as well as from the app on a tablet. This is something that he plays with daily. I figured it would get a week or so of playtime and then shoved to the side, however, boy was I wrong. It works great on all floor surfaces and is all around really fun to play and interact with.

We purchased Chip for my son's birthday. First day the front legs froze and wouldn't move anymore. We followed the FAQ and reloaded the APP, but still no success. We ended up taking back Chip and getting an exchange.
What we learned, after waking up Chip, install the APP and immediately upgrade the firmware on Chip, took 3 updates and Chip never had the same freeze issue. When it learns your voice, make sure no other noise is around (tv, fan, etc.). This effects Chips ability to learn your voice.
Overall it is a lot of fun and my 7 year old loves Chip! Well worth the purchase!
