The upside first. Yes, it gives you a workout. Even doing a 20 min light workout, I walked away feeling it. Either in my legs or cardio, YourShape includes good workouts.
The bads. As far as design I was so deeply disappointed. I got bored quickly with the graphics of white screens with flowers or butterflies. I was disappointed and bored with the narrator. The narrator is the same female voice throughout the game. Changing trainers even to a male does not change the narrator. Therefore you aren't actually working out with a "trainer", you are just following the character on the screen. The music was also boring. I thought the designers did not do a good job with consistency through exercise examples, menus, selection. It felt awkward to navigate. I felt there was inconsistent instruction. Some exercises gave too much instruction some gave too little. I have only previously used the wii fit. I wanted an interactive fitness game comparable to the wii fit but maybe one step more of an exercise program. This one lacks any of the game aspect. It is not a game at all. I was deeply annoyed at how much required a download. I also wanted something my husband and I could do together and this program did not offer that. My husband took one view of the program and walked away totally uninterested. The largest problem it has is that it is plain and simple NO FUN. Boring. I was uninterested before I had even finished the setup. My husband did not even stick around to finish the setup.
While Yourshape my have more complete workouts, why would you want to do them. They are boring. The designers missed that this was built for an XBOX. A GAME SYSTEM. I wanted an interactive fitness GAME. This is not it.

Much better than any Wii Excercise game

I used to do a lot of Wii fit and EA sports on the Wii, this game blows all those games out of the water. The fact you do not have to hold any controllers at all is by far the best feature. I remember choking myself with the Wii controllers sometimes because some of the moves were not practical with the two controllers.
The workouts are easy to follow and the instructors feedback is helpful and most of the time if I correct what the instructor tells me I get a higher score. I love how the experience points it gives and the calorie counter, it is a great way to stay motivated. The only downside is the limited number of games and exercises to choose from and the developers charge an arm and a leg whenever the release a new exercise on XBox360 live. Overall I have a blast working out and it is the best workout game out there.

I bought this game to keep active during the rainy Seattle winters. It is a great way to keep active if you are stuck indoors and don't want to go to a health club.
It is fun to set a calorie target and have it track your progress. There are several Michelle Bridges workouts that are fantastic - especially if you like a hard workout.. I find that, even if I don't feel like I have an hour or two to do a proper after-work workout, if I do one of her 15 minute workouts I still feel better.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is there are some quirks in recognizing your form. (ex: a few times it will tell you to move your feet closer together even though they are touching) I am learn to adjust to that as sometimes if you move back a step, then the sensors do a better job. Regardless of that, I feel like I am getting a great workout and because I am not having to drive to a gym, I do it more often and really enjoy it.

Makes cardio fun

I haven't had a chance to use any modes other then the games. But the games were fun and before I knew it, I had burned through a 1/2 hour of cardio without realizing it. I couldn't figure out why my shoulders and legs were tired & sore the next day until I realized I had used the game the day before. The user interface is better then Biggest Loser, but could still use some tweaks. The only drawback was that the Kinect had a hard time picking up my feet on the floor exercise games. We have it on top of a large projection screen TV so lowering it may alleviate this, but I haven't had the time to test this theory out. It's a good exercise game for the Kinect, especially since this is a 1st Gen. game.

Kicks my butt!!

I had bought the Kinect for workout games such as this one. The set up takes a while, but once you get everything set up, Kinect will recognize you and log you into your profile. It will keep track of calories burned in a session, and total calories burned. This helps me to know where I am in my personal goals. There are many different workouts, and each one is different. The workouts are set up to do three exercises, then a small break (no more than a minute), then three more and so on. The trainer is a beast! They will definitely give you the motivation to work harder! I would like to see more cool down exercises, and more low impact exercises. There is not a stretching period, and they don't really emphasize stretching at all. I would purchase an updated version if the game designers put a stretching or yoga session in the game. During the game, you have to be in sync with the trainer, and if you aren't, any exercise that you do won't count. It can become frustrating if you are tired and need to take the exercise down a notch. There is only on and off, there is not a "slow down for a couple minutes!" Overall, it's a fun way to get into exercising without paying for a gym membership.

I purchased this fitness game for myselfwell after the holidays were over. When I found it on sale with free shipping i thought it was a good deal.Little did I know that it would take forever to arrive! Over 2 weeks went by and I decided to call Best Buy. Spoke to a woman who was very polite and helped me by shipping me another copy. That copy arrived in 2 days(different carrier) I never recieved the original copy. I though it was strange as I have ordered many things over the holidays With free shipping and never had a problem...most were there in3-4 days so i was kinda surprised at this one. All in all Best Buy did make it right by sending out a replacement copy right away. Now the game is very well done! It allows you to choose some mini games and actual personal trainer routines. the games are just ok, The personal trainer routines really give you a workout. I started on the beginner level that it personalized based off of some questions it had me answer. I am still paying for it. It has been a while since I have worked out and was quite sore. I also was a bit disapointed that the number of routines offered were a bit low, most are add -ons that you must purchase! But overall I enjoy it very much.

Doesn't have a 30 day, 6 week, or 9 week challenge

First, this game was fun and it was hard work. You are definitely going to get a workout with it. But you may not make it past the first week. There's actually no reason to. There's no 30 day, 6 week, or 9 week challenge. This is one of the things that I loved about EA Sports. It was motivating to know that I needed to log in every day in order to keep up with my challenge. It gave me something to work towards. With this game, I was working towards burning calories. This can be good motivation, but it got old quickly.
The graphics were also plain. I got tired of all of the flowers floating around. :-) I'm going to get the EA Sports Active 2 for the Kinect. I loved the first one, so I think this one is going to be a keeper. I know the EA Sports Active 2 is more money, but I think it's worth it. With EA Sports, I always completed my goals and challenges. I really grew bored with this game after the second day. Almost forgot. The website was a big disappointment.
