works well but poor battery life
Posted .Having tried several of these devices to keep track of my stuff, the key for my purposes is battery life. The (non-user replacable) battery lasts about 2 days - ridiculously short. This would be a fantastic device if the battery lasted around 10 days or more. Opt for the hard wire power kit if you can. The location service works well, the features work well. And with a small glitch with the Costa Rican customer support team, the service is painless. I have tried the AA battery extender (still lasts only about 4 days). So unless you don't mind recharging the thing constantly, opt for the hard-wired accessory if you can. If you are handy enough to hard wire it into a constantly-on 12V power supply, the Zoombak is hard to beat for the price.

Don't buy it, it's nothing but headaches
Posted .SAVE YOURSELF A MAJOR HEADACHE, AND BUY SOME OTHER PRODUCT. They double-billed me for the annual fee, and after 3 calls to them I've had to resort to having my credit card go after them for the credit. Every time I call them, they tell me that there are "delays" in issuing credits (funny how that works, isn't it? When they CHARGE your card, it goes right through...). Unit is very problematic, works about 30% of the time. Definitely not worth the hassles; it's a great concept, but it just doesn't work, and their Costa-Rican based customer service reps (who speak broken English) don't do anything to help the situation.

Well worth the money
Posted .I have a 16 year old daughter who is driving and I can keep track of her. It will even tell me if she goes over the speed limit. She has no clue it is in her vehicle and I have caught her not telling the truth about where she is and she thinks that people are watching and letting me know where she actually is. Eventually I will tell her that it is in her vehicle but I am testing her. I like that I get text messages letting me know when she has left the safety zones too. I am very happy with this item.

Zoomback is the best locator I have ever used.
Posted .I was very impressed with the size and reliability of the zoomback. I have tried several other GPS devices and found none that were as powerful and reliable as zoomback for tracking and locating my travels. My daughter and I took a 3200 mile motorcycle road trip to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming this past summer. My wife could not go because of her work schedule, but she wanted to be a part of our trip anyway. We purchased the Zoomback GPS unit so she could follow us and watch our progress throughout the trip. The Zoomback GPS unit never missed a beat during the entire trip, all through the mountains and remote areas of the park. We were even able to get directions from my wife when we decided to change our route during the trip. My wife could track where we were and relay up to date information from the Internet to us using our cell phone about which route to take. That alone was a life saver due to some of the road conditions coming out of the park. The size of the Zoomback unit was also helpful since on a motorcycle you are always looking for more room. It is small enough to put in your pocket and take with you on a hike through the woods. The battery life was also a plus. The Zoomback lasted longer than any other unit I have tried, so I did not have to take extra batteries and change them every few hours like other units. All and all I am EXTREMELY pleased with the Zoomback GPS unit we purchased and would recommend them to anyone who is traveling or going to remote areas. Thanks again for your product.

Zoombak locator= totally unreliable
Posted .I have 2 of these locators and have them now for 1 week....I have called their costumer service at least 3 times a day, every day to, have them update both my locators because they never send 15 minute updates to keep a track of the car, they constantly can not be tracked because there is no signal getting to the device, and even the alerts don't work half the time to tell you if the car has moved from your house,etc...everytime I call the company they tell me I have to have the device in front of me so they can check it, but isn't the whole point of this device to locate something that's lost? so why would I keep the device with me if it's supposed to be on something I want to locate? BTW they want you to put the device in "clear view of the sky", so basically leave it in front of you car's windshield this way someone who steals your car can easily find it and just chuck it out the window (oh and don't forget you have to have the device with you just incase it decides to stop sending a signal for no reason (so stupid!))... did anyone in this company hear of common sense?

Very Unreliable
Posted .We have zones set up to receive e-mails and texts as to when my son reaches certain locations on his way home from school and we do not receive notifications. When we manually track it states "Unable to locate your zoombak" when I call customer service they have me cycle power and they reset something on there end. Once this is done zoombak works for a short period of time. Once I was unable to locate my son's zoombak and called customer service because I was worried. They where unable to assist because I needed to cycle power to the unit, rendering it useless if any thing had happened because it was attached to my son's back pack. I told them he had it and If I hadf it to cycle power to I would not need it to locate him. All I got was a sorry????

Lost Dog?
Posted .We have 2 dogs, one likes to find ways to get out of the yard. (nick name Houdini) After getting the Zoombak for him we set the smallest radius around our address for the alarm. We also set it up to text a cell phone if Zeus got out of the area. Well it worked he doesn’t get far now. It has also helped us track him when he got out and we had the phone off. We just logged on to the Zoombak site and instantly knew where he went. No hours of running around trying to find him. One of us sits at the computer and talks to the other on a cell phone and we tracked him down. So the peace of mind being able to find our puppy is priceless. (we do fix the areas that he gets out in, he just finds new ones)

It's Useless for its intended purpose
Posted .With the cost of service, I'm now into this for $180+... I'll have it on my desk and "locate" it and it will say its 5 miles down the highway on the opposite side of the street. Won't move it, "locate" it again and now its in a neighborhood 2 miles North of me. "Locate" it again and now it can't find itself. I've tried different locations, times of day, inside or outside and its been accurate once in twenty times. Useless for its intended purpose.
