  I’ve been using Blink security cameras for several years, and while I have mixed feelings about the battery powered cameras, their Blink Mini plug-in cameras have always for the price been one of my favorite security cameras that I recommend to people constantly. The Blink Mini 2k+ is the latest model in that series. These are small cameras. Roughly 2 x 2 x 1.5 inches. So they fit just about anywhere. They are available in white or black, so one of those two choices will blend in with your furniture in your home so they are less visible. Past and other versions of this series caps out video resolution at 1080p resolution that’s still very clear, but this updated model pushes it to 2K (2560 x 1440p), so the videos are even sharper, and allow you to zoom in when viewing more and still retain details you may miss on older models. Still images are slightly lower in resolution but mostly you’ll be using/viewing video with these. Sound has been updated to be a bit clearer with noise canceling. I have tried this one so far in a room that has a DVR motor running near it and I’d say the noise cancellation is noticeable – not dramatically better, but still fine. If you were wanting to talk to someone over the mic and speaker back and forth, it’s certainly doable. Sound seems to connect slightly faster on this version compared to my older one as well. The Blink Mini 2k+ comes with an approx. 7ft USB A to USB-C power cord and a power plug for indoor use. The USB-C side plugs into the back of the camera. Being A/C powered allows it to connect to your Wi-Fi more quickly than the battery versions of their cameras, which is my complaint about those. The plug-in Minis are much faster to respond to alerts and live video requests via the Blink app than the battery models. Of note however, that if you want to use this camera outdoors, you do need to purchase the weather-resistant power cord which is usually sold separately unless you get it as a bundle. Past models were indoor only, or required a special housing to be used outdoors, but the 2k+ is now weather-resistant itself. I’d still recommend trying to mount it under on a porch or under an eave along your house. Weather resistant is not always the same as “weather PROOF”, so strong storms could still impact the camera. Setting it up for indoor use is easy, though slightly buggy. Mine gave me an error message halfway through when in fact it did already connect and set it up in the app. Odd, but it works. If new to Blink, you download and setup the app and scan the QR code on the back and get going pretty easily. It’s important to note that if you want videos from the Mini series to be saved, you must subscribe to a monthly/yearly plan. If you only get one device, it’s $3.99 per month or $11.99 per year for the basic plan, but if you plan on getting multiple Blink devices, you’ll want to opt for the Blink Plus Plan for $119.00 per year that allows multiple devices. Not cheap, but well worth it, as without a plan, you will only get a live alert when motion is detected and can connect live, but nothing is stored. You do get a 30 day trial to the plus plan so you can test it out. An included stand lets you set up and aim the camera as needed in your home. Once set up, I found the 2k+ to be noticeably better than my older Mini model. It does connect more quickly through the app, and sound is a little better. When the room is dark, the built-in LED spotlight light does a decent job of illuminating the immediate area around the camera and showing some colors, as opposed to my older lightless version that relied only on infrared that gives black and white in darker areas. You can turn the alerts on and off and motion sensitivity is adjustable. If you have a subscription, the built-in AI features should be able to tell the difference between a person and a car if mounted outside. I haven’t been able to test this aspect since I’m using it indoors. The field of view is a bit wider as well. As a side perk though, if you use a Blink doorbell, the 2k+ camera can be set up to act as a “chime” that will go off if someone rings the doorbell, adding to you hearing a door alert not just through the app, but also through this camera. It’s also compatible with Alexa + devices. Of note, you do need decent broadband upload speeds to get a good 2k video feed. These days, most people do, but if your Wi-Fi is subject to slow upload speeds this can have an effect on the quality of video when stored or viewing live. For 2k video it’s typically recommended you have an upload speed of at least 2 Mbps, but 3-4 Mbps per camera is going to give you the best experience with video. I have and still do recommend the Blink Mini cameras, and the 2k+ is a decent update over previous models. Again, I recommend these over the battery models in Blink’s lineup for speed and video clarity, so suggest using these when you can. You do again, need to subscribe to Blink’s plan which I also recommend for video storage. These also go on sale frequently and it’s easy to stock up and have them in multiple locations. Some home insurance companies will also give you a discount if you have security cameras, and many police departments will respond more quickly to alarm alerts if you can verify with a camera something is indeed happening – more to consider. I definitely recommend these.

  As an avid user of Blink cameras, this is the first wired one and was wondering how the Blink Mini 2k+ would work out. So far so good … Good: Size Weight Mounting Kit Light Meh: Buggy Recording Notifications since adding Bad: Non-grounded outdoor USB plug Can’t gift subscriptions I have Google wireless & wired cameras and a doorbell (2), I have a hardwired PoE NVR system (5) and I have Blink (9). Overkill? Not really as each of them have their limitations for me and some serve other purposes, like watching wildlife on the property. Coming out of the box, is a simple camera with a decent length USB-A to C cable and a traditional non-grounded USB-A charging block, which I find a bit odd. Weight wise, it’s on the lighter size compared to the Google Nest Cam (although that is indoors only) but similar in size and it comes with some mounting hardware, should you need to stick it on a wall or ceiling. Going back to my camera setup - for my NVR, it’s not as good at night as I had hoped in some areas, but it records 24x7; I supplemented that with a Blink 4 and they are a good match. At the side of my house where the NVR camera isn’t that great, I used this new Blink Mini 2k+ and it adds so much value. At night, where an old straggler Blink 3 camera lives but fails to tell me what’s going on, this Mini 2k+ excels! Motion from deer on the tree line are now visible whereas with the old Blink 3, I had no idea they were using that as a path! Also, during the day, I get to see this annoying squirrel going back & forth tripping up the motion sensor and sitting on the trim sometimes blocking the camera! Speaking of motion sensors … an option to set the light to come on at night when motion is detected is pretty nice and there’s a siren capability along with extended live view. A downside to adding a new camera is you get the ‘subscription’ features for a short time knowing that if you get hooked, they won & now you’re a subscriber. For me, I have an old account so I get to keep videos without a subscription but I don’t get the cool new features - like extended live viewing with the Blink Mini 2+ once the trial ends. A few things that I observed / ran into that were odd … While I do have this in a covered receptacle under my porch, what happens when people want to use an outdoor extension cord and no cover? Will this last? I see the connection to the camera as nice and tight, but not the same for the charging block. Since adding the Mini 2k+, I am seeing notifications that it’s recording on the main screen but when it’s done, there is no recording - and as I had 8 other cameras before adding the Mini 2k+, I know that never happened before. Lastly, Amazon - Blink - please allow us to ‘gift’ subscriptions! I would love to get one for a family member but I can’t. Otherwise, recommended!
