Features
  • Carbon Dome Tweeter

Carbon Dome tweeters deliver a dramatic improvementon the aluminium double dome tweeter, raising the breakup threshold to 47kHz, for pinpoint imaging accuracy and detail. The closest performance to our Diamond Dome Tweeters.

  • Continuum Cone

Continuum is a woven composite that blends control with flexibility. The result is breathtaking clarity. Hear voices, guitars and bass instruments with precision and transparency.

  • Curved Baffle

This allows the midrange and bass drivers to be located in individual housings that sit proud of the speaker baffle. When combined with the curvature of the structure, this approach reduces the audible impact of the cabinet, creating a cleaner, more open and more immersive sound.

  • Finishes

This model is available in Gloss Black, Mocha and Satin White.

  • Optional Speaker Stand

The FS-700 S3 is the perfect match.

  • Magnetic Grills

Each model includes magnetic speaker grills.

  • Step up from 706S3

Looking for a performance step up? The 705 S3 features our Solid Body Tweeter housing on top of the cabinet for a more holographic sound.

Very nice upgrade. Have not had them long enough to say anything more. As bookshelf speakers, they are big in size and performance. Needed to build a custom mount.

    Incredible Speaker

I critically listened to over 20 pairs of speakers over the last year to find these as my end-game speakers. I listened to the KEF R3 and many other KEFs, B&W 600 and 700 series, Polks, Buchardts, and Klipsches. This specific one blew all the others out of the water. I paired it with a Marantz M1. The sound quality, the soundstage, and the clarity were head and shoulders above anything I tested. The 706 S3’s wood finishing, the protruding woofer, and the tweeter clarity are in another league compared to anything else I tested. Funny enough, KEF Q1 Metas were pretty good at one-fifth the price. However, I just couldn’t unhear the 706 S3s. I had to get them. I first saw and listened to these at the Best Buy Magnolia, even though I had gone there to listen to the R3 Metas. I ultimately bought the B&W 706 S3s at Best Buy to support their business and keep the Magnolia showroom open in Brooklyn.

    Clarity and Resolution

The 706 S3 was tested against MartinLogan Classic 9 ESL electrostats in the same placement--the corner of a medium-large living-room, flanking a large armoir (as entertainment center)--and, for this space, the 706 S3 offered modestly higher resolution than did the Classic 9. Dialogue and instruments have slightly more clarity, and subtle atmospheric and musical effects emerge with slightly firmer and more bodied presence, generating a livelier stage. The 706 S3 is paired with a good subwoofer, and the McIntosh C 53 preamp's equalizer is used to remove low-bass frequencies from the standmounts (letting the sub do the work in that region), so music and movies can be played very loudly without suffering compression or distortion. (Frequencies below 100Hz, which B&W documents as subject to distortion above 1%, are suppressed at a 12dB slope by the 25Hz knob on the preamp.) The McIntosh MC 462 amplifier delivers sufficient first-class power to drive almost any speaker, so competing speakers can be evaluated fairly, and the 706 S3 has exceeded our expectations, producing sound as articulate as its mocha wood veneer cabinet is elegant. The standmounts, when pair with a good sub, have more color and verve than does a $7500 pair of electrostats. Some patience with the McIntosh equalizer (to compensate for inevitable room dynamics) and some careful metering have yielded a nearly flat response. These speakers join the MartinLogan XT B100 standmounts as some of the best loudspeakers we've tested in real-world environments.

    Great looking and sounding speakers

Best Buy provided these to replace high end 805N model bought in 2002 that they damaged from faulty receiver or its installation. These are as good if not better than the earlier ones that now retail at $9K. Best Buy acted ethically throughout and had Geek squad return three times to make installation good. They kep me appraised regularly even as customer service reps valiantly but imperfectly tried to get delivery info. The speakers are terrific; the experience ended well but was a slog.

The 706 S3 is an outstanding bookshelf speaker for use in larger spaces. Thanks to its decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter and carefully upgraded crossover, it provides exceptional detail and insight into your music, while its substantial 6.5in Continuum Cone bass/midrange drive unit provides ample scale and extension. Like its 705 S3 sibling, it performs at its best on the optional FS-700 S3 stand.

Questions & Answers
  • Could you use these speakers in a 5.1.4 as fronts and rears,or one of your other speakers as the fronts or rears, will be using a denon 3800 or 4800 recevier.Any help would be great.Thanks... Phil..?

Hello PGANT, You can certainly use these as fronts and rears provided you have the space and stands for them. There would be no issue having them powered by a Denon receiver such as the 3800 or 4800 as well. This would work wonderfully.

  • For the speakers, they come as is without any cords or amp. I purchased a CDA-4D from B&O, but aren't fully sure how to actually hook everything up. What cords or accessories will I be needing to hook these up to a 16" Macbook (via USB-C or aux).

Hello. The CDA-4D is a custom installation distribution power amplifier, and may not be the best option for your system. It requires you add a pre-amplifier to connect your sources to. A better option would be to go with a Marantz Model 40n or a Marantz M1, as they both fit neatly between your computer and the 706S3s, offer a good set of analog and digital inputs to work with and are easier to operate and set-up given your requirements. Either way, 12, 14 or 16 gauge copper speaker wire of the length you need will be required. We recommend Audioquest for this purpose. For more information, I recommend speaking with a Best Buy Home Audio expert.

Hello, These are able to be used as rear speakers, but we do not design any wall mounts for these speakers and these speakers are meant to sit on a stable surface like the dedicated speaker stands.
