    • Effective Pixels: 24.2 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
    • Standardized Video Resolution: 4K (2160p) (An approximated measurement of the product’s video resolution. This may not be the exact resolution of the product, which may be slightly more or less when using a pixel-by-pixel measurement.)
  • General
    • Brand: Canon
    • Model Number: 6577C002
    • Product Name: EOS R1 Mirrorless Camera (Body Only)
    • Color: Black
    • Product Set: Body Only
    • Camera Model Family: Canon R1
    • Digital Camera Type: Mirrorless Camera Body Only
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Sensor Size: 35mm Full Frame (36 x 24 mm)
    • Total Pixels: 26.7 megapixels (Generally, the more pixels, the higher the image resolution and the finer the detail that can be seen.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 6000 horizontal pixels and 4000 vertical pixels (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Zoom Capability: true (This function allows for magnification of the subject.)
    • Digital Zoom: 10x (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)

Electronic Shutter: 1/8000th sec – 30 seconds, in 1/3 or ½-step increments (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum ISO: 100 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. When there is plenty of light, using the lowest ISO setting available will typically result in a higher quality image.)

The Canon EOS R1 is our top-of-the-line full-frame professional camera that is a powerhouse for professionals working in fast action situations, carrying on the legacy of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III digital SLR camera. The 1-series has a long tradition of providing excellent AF performance, speed, durability and reliability, all areas the EOS R1 excels in, but there is so much more including new faster processing, state-of-the-art video features, and networking options that really make this 1-series camera the ONE everyone has been waiting for.

  • New 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor: The sensor design on this camara is all new, and all Canon. this new 24.2MP back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor is the heart of the EOS R1. Balancing the needs of speed and quality, this sensor provides enough pixels for a two-page magazine spread (without enlargement of the file), while also providing incredibly fast sensor read-out speeds, and enhancing low-light performance.
  • ISO 100-102400 (expandable to 409600) for crisp, clear photos even in ultralow light.: Enhances shooting in varied and fast-changing lighting situations, including extremely low light.
  • DIGIC Accelerator: The DIGIC Accelerator processor is a completely new front-engine processor, developed by Canon to supplement the power of the proven DIGIC X processor. The DIGIC Accelerator handles the processing that makes so many of the new features of this camera possible, allowing the DIGIC X chip to focus solely on image processing, again contributing to incredible speed.
  • Time to focus: Autofocus is on a whole new level with the EOS R1. New subject tracking allows you to maintain focus on a moving subject even when they are obscured briefly while shooting. And, for even faster positioning of your active AF Area, the R1 adds Canon’s Eye Control AF — even more advanced than the Eye Control in the EOS R3 camera.
  • Action priority: Thanks again to the increased camera processing power of the DIGIC Accelerator chip, we have developed a new AF mode called Action priority. This new focusing technology recognizes specific subject movements in selected sports, and automatically moves AF points to a player performing that motion — taking a shot, passing a ball, and so on.
  • Our best EVF (electronic viewfinder): The new Electronic viewfinder is now Canon’s best ever, featuring a 9.44 million dot resolution in an OLED display, a 0.9x magnification for a large view, and its maximum brightness is the highest yet in an EOS R-Series camera. Additionally, some of the EVF optics inside the body are sealed in an airtight structure, making it less likely that the viewfinder will fog up.
  • Reliability: Like every 1-series camera before it, the EOS R1 features robust dust- and weather-resistance and the camera also feature a magnesium alloy exterior body. Reliability means more than just weather resistance at Canon, every component of the R1 is put through more rigorous testing than any of our other models — from button presses, to dial turns, this camera is ready for real life photo and video capture and all of what that entails.
  • Dual Card Slots for CFexpress** Type B: Dual slots for CFexpress cards give you the speed and storage you need for demanding projects. This also allows for cool abilities, like the ability to record smaller-sized proxy movies to slot 2 while simultaneously capturing high-res footage on the main card in slot 1.
  • Video where you need it: The EOS R1 also provides versatile cinema integration, with a range of high-performance video features, including 6K, RAW recording in-camera at up to 60 frames per second, 4K MP4 recording up to 120 frames per second (with audio), and 2K or Full HD recording to 240 frames per second. The R1 even has a built-in tally lamp, and is capable of recording 4-channel audio.
  • Improved image stabilization *1 *2: The EOS R1 has three stabilization methods (in-body, optical, and independently-activated movie digital IS) for spectacular stabilization performance, especially when recording video, where it can help suppress blur in the peripheral area. IS (Coordinated Control) can deliver up to 8.5 stops at center and 7.5 stops at the periphery.*3*4
  • 3.0" TFT LCD monitor: Touch screen monitor with manually adjustable brightness control by selecting one of seven brightness levels.
  • New 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor: The sensor design on this camara is all new, and all Canon. this new 24.2MP back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor is the heart of the EOS R1. Excellent

Debated going with R3, but don't regret for a second jumping in on the R1. Excellent all around from what I've shot so far, including indoor events and wildlife (birds, shot in foggy/cloudy conditions). I still have a lot to learn, while enjoying every click of the shutter!

    Canon R1 Full Size Sensor

This camera feels great in the hand! Hope Canon decides to make a wrist strap for it! The lens aperture ring works great in photo mode (24-105z & 70-200z). Seems to focus quicker than R3. Definitely an upgrade from the R3.
