A: This is not easy to answer. Range is not a way to compare lenses as it is the field of view that gives the perception of magnification. Any 800mm lens on a full frame camera has a field of view of about 2.58 x 1.72 degrees. At 30 feet away, an area of 1 ft 4 in x 10 in will fill the frame, say a squirrel will fill the frame. At 240,000 miles away, an area of about 10,000 x 7,000 miles will fill the frame, say the moon fills most of the frame. Photographers will sometimes refer to the narrowing field of view as the reach of the lens, or how well it makes distant things look bigger. The more expensive lens can provide a better image of a small part of the frame, but will not change what fills the frame. This 800mm has a great reach for the buck, but would be better for wildlife mostly at rest. Birds in flight, with this narrow field of view, make it difficult to track and focus.
Q: Does the Canon RF 800mm f/11 IS STM Lens work with EOS R?
A: Actually works quite well. I use it on my Canon EOS R, R6 and R5. I noticed the autofocus speed is faster on the R5/6 but for the R it is still fantastic. I would recommend this for the R3, R5, R6 and R. Definitely worth the purchase
Q: Compatible with R6? Good for shooting daytime wild life?
A: Yes. The EOS R6 uses the RF lens mount that this lens has. I haven't done much in wildlife photography. I can use 1/200 to 1/300 shutter with 400-800 iso for the most part in daytime for what I shoot. It is very good for reasonably still wildlife shots like deer, heron and perched birds. I'm not very skilled in tracking birds in flight, which I imagine a faster shutter would be desired. Would it be good for your purpose? The RF 600mm F/4L $12,999 or the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L $2,799 would be better pro level options. But, if willing to push iso levels, the extra reach and cost savings may be just the right balance to be good.
Q: Will this work with my Canon Eos 60
A: It does not. I will only work with cameras in the RF ecosystem. (Currently EOS R, RP, Ra, R5 and R6.
Q: Does this lens auto focus or is it manual focus only?
A: Yes to autofocus. Remember this is an "RF" mount lens, not "EF". And for the money, it is a great lens.
Q: Is it compatible with EOS 4000D?
A: The RF800mm F11 lens is NOT compatible with the 4000D. The EOS 4000D uses "EF" mount lenses. The Canon RF800mm F11 lens requires AN "RF" mount. There is no adapter available at this time.
Q: Will this work with EOS 80D

I would say that to use this lens, you should really be familiar with your camera’s capabilities and the exposure triangle. Between the f/11 (low light intake) and the 800mm (requiring a fast shutter speed to avoid motion blur), you will need to know what settings you can get away with. I shoot with the R5 and so the dynamic range, ISO, and IBIS let’s me get away with some iffy settings. With that said, I LOVE this lens. It’s super light in comparison to my EF 100-400mm and RF 85mm and I have no problems walking around with it for a long time. It’s sharp and the IS lets you get away with a slower shutter speed without compromising image quality much. It is a bit hard to locate your subject due to the zoom, but that’s a reality of telephoto lenses as tight as this one. I’ve used this to shoot photos of birds, cityscape, planes, and pretty much anything that is far. I’m more of a portrait guy lately, but this has let me explore things like planetary and wildlife photography. One downside (aside from the obvious) is the need to unlock the lens and pull it out to use. I forget to do this, causing a bit of a delay when I grab my camera spontaneously and in a rush to capture a picture. And it leave me a bit worried keeping it extended when not in use. It’s a bit annoying but not really a dealbreaker. Overall though, I love going out with this lens. I can’t praise it enough. And when combined with the 2x teleconveter, it’s amazing.

This is a great lens for the price! It's sharp and allows you to get those far off shots that you would miss with anything with less reach. I was worried about the f/11 aperture in low light but it does an amazing job paired with the low light and image stabilization of the R6. For wildlife and daytime sports it's a spectacular deal in my opinion. I almost didn't purchase it because of the closed down aperture, but so glad I did! The only thing I wish it had is weather sealing since it is used mostly outside, but I just carry a lens cover on inclement days.

For an F11, plastic fantastic, this lens is remarkable. Buying a 16,999.00 lens is not possible for me at this juncture, nor is carrying the weight of it. That's the opposite of fun; however, this lens is light and saved me 16,000.00. Yes, the aperture is tight, but there's a trade off. Money and convenience. And the reach on an R5 is wonderful. Love the prime.
