  • Key Specs
    • Continuous Watts x Channel @ Ohms: 185 watts x 7 channels @ 6 ohms
    • Number of Channels: 7.2 (The number of discrete channels of sound output. This can be a single number or multiple numbers separated by decimal(s). The first number is the primary, horizontally directed audio channels. The number after the first decimal, if applicable, is the number of subwoofer outputs or channels. The number after the second decimal, if applicable, is the number of height or atmospheric channels designed to immerse the listener by producing overhead sound effects.)
    • Number of Audio Zones: 2 (Audio zones, typically designated by rooms in a home, are areas in which all speakers are dependent on the same sound source. Whether a zone encompasses one or multiple rooms, the receiver or preamp/processor is used to control all aspects of its audio and is able to select which zones receive sound.)

    • Video Pass-through: 2160 (4K), HDR (Devices with this feature allow video signals to travel from their source to a target device without alteration. For example, a receiver with 4K pass-through would allow 4K video signal from a Blu-ray player to pass to a target TV with surround sound; without the pass-through ability, the receiver would not allow both 4K video and surround sound to be transmitted simultaneously.)
    • Maximum Supported Resolution (Video Passthrough): 2160p (4K) (The highest video resolution supported by the device for passing through video to another device.)

    • High Resolution Audio: true (Hear music the way musicians and sound technicians intended it to be heard. Products that support hi-res audio deliver audio signals with a dynamic range and bandwidth far greater than that of a standard CD so you'll be able to enjoy pure music with outstanding sound quality. The device supports high-resolution audio signals, which more closely resemble the quality of music as it was originally recorded, with more texture and detail than can be heard via typical music streaming services or CDs.)

Whether a zone encompasses one or multiple rooms, the receiver or preamp/processor is used to control all aspects of its audio and is able to select which zones receive sound.)
    • Number of Audio Zone Source Outputs: 2 (Multiple source outputs from the receiver mean different speakers are able to receive different sound sources from the receiver or preamp/processor. For every output, a different sound source can be accessed simultaneously in different zones. For example, two source outputs could be a streaming media player in one room and a Blu-ray player in another.)
    • Surround Sound Supported: Audyssey MultEQ, DTS Virtual:X, DTS:X, Dolby Atmos (Surround sound systems use multiple audio channels and speakers to create an immersive sound experience for the listener. Q: I have two in-ceiling speakers. If I wanted to use them for the Atmos feature, which speaker port would they need to be plugged into?

A: Surround Back Left and Right. Audyssey then lets you specify where they are located (e.g. in ceiling front, side or rear). At least that's been my experience based on the documentation and my configuration.

Q: Has anyone used the Component RBG Monitor out on this receiver? I have an old tv with RGB Component hook ups for 1080i. I just wanted to see if anyone has used it.

A:

Hey Tommy,

So the AVR-X2500H has the component RBG Monitor out. You will need to go IN via component in order to output via component. You will not be able to output HDMI connections via the component monitor out.

Q: I have a Bose Lifestyle 38 III that I am trying to integrate with my new Sony Z9d TV. Geek squad told me I needed to add receiver to system in order to get optimum performance from TV. Would this unit work or can you recommend one that would best fit.

A: We recently bought a new LG 4K TV and our old receiver wasn’t compatible so we purchased the Denom receiver which is compatible to our new TV. So far we have had no problems and we love our picture quality. I would recommend the Denon Receiver. I hope this helps you with your decision.

Q: I have a mix of Bose 4 ohm (from an Acoustimas set) and Klipsh 8 ohm. Will this receiver work here?

A: The answer is yes. That is the way that my system is setup now and it sounds and works great!

Q: Will this work with 4 ohm speakers? I have 5.1 all 4 ohms.

A: Yes - the AVR-S940H is rated to drive 4 ohm speakers. The manual goes into detail as to what settings you need to change if your are using 4 or 6 ohm speakers - but the receiver will handle them.

Q: Can this amp also do 5.1 surround sound if you don't want to hook up 7 speakers? What is the impedence reading for speakers for this amp?

A: Yes, mine is 5.1 and it works great using "DTS Virtual:X® creating three-dimensional effects without height speakers. Mine are 8 ohms.

Q: Anyone know or using 2 HEOS speakers in a 5.2.2 setup? Trying to find a decent way to do Surrounds with wireless speakers. Thanks in advance!

A:

Hey Darvin,

Unfortunately, the AVR-S940H is not capable of wireless HEOS surround speakers. The HEOS AVR and the HEOS BAR are the only HEOS devices capable of wireless surround sound. I hope this helps if not you can always give us a call to have one of our expert technical support team members assist with this and any other concerns you may have.

Thanks,
Denon North America

Q: Does this have 3D pass thru?

A:

Hey Al,

The AVR-S940H AV receiver supports 3D video pass-through (720p/1080p only) from connected 3D-compatible Blu-ray, games and broadcast devices to 3D-compatible HDTVs (all 3D components must be connected via HDMI).

Thanks,
Denon North America
