Frigidaire - 3/4HP Corded Garbage Disposal - Gray

Quiet Easy install - just be sure you have an outlet for it to plug into under the sink. Only thing that I were ours change is the rubber sink stopper has very small holes so water flows too slow and you have to hold it open to get the food to pass through it. Purchased a “Super Stuffer” and problem solved.

We did our research and this brand and unit were highly recommended. It's a quiet unit that can chop lemon halves and other items very quickly.

It grinds up food waste with power to spare. If you're upgrading from a half horse power disposal you can tell this one has more power and it has a muffler ring, so it’s quieter too. If you have the typical three bolt-screw twist on mount and a DIYer, changing out an older disposal for this one is pretty easy. At first glance, I assumed it’s made for Frigidaire by Insinkerator. Especially since the mount is the same. Looks like it’s the industry standard now. I used to service and install appliances primarily from the late 80 until the mid 90s before switching to HVAC full time and I dealt with disposals a lot. Most of the disposals I dealt with were Insinkerators. In the time since I have seen several brands that were rebadged Insinkerators. Kenmore and Whirlpool name a couple. That’s not a bad thing since they set the benchmark. However, even with all the similarities there are a few subtle differences. So, I cannot say for sure if Insinkerator (Emerson Electric) makes it. But my guess is they do. Especially considering the 10 year warranty. Installation is pretty straightforward and the instruction book does a good job of explaining how to remove various types of disposal installations. It’s not a difficult job, especially if you have installed or changed out a twist mount disposal before. They supply a 90 degree elbow that you may or may not need. I didn’t. The instructions also show how to remove the cord and plug and directly wire it to an electrical box. There are two things I need to point out. First is the rubber seal that the tailpiece pipe mounts to on the disposal. It’s not the typical O-ring that I’ve seen before. It is a type of O-ring that fits around the flange on the tailpiece. Even better than just an O-ring. But I couldn't find it at first. That’s because it’s on the included Black Elbow. Black on Black doesn’t stand out too well. See photos. Anyways, I removed it and put it on my straight white tailpiece. I also had to shorten my tailpiece about a half an inch. The Frigidaire is slightly wider than the Whirlpool-Insinkerator it replaced. Second is to use the screws that secure the metal plate holding the tailpiece that came with the disposal. I know this may sound like a no-brainer, but in my 35+ years of service work I have seen a lot of crazy things and it’s not that uncommon for someone to reuse old parts like simple screws and such on something new if they look identical and are in good shape. And in my case the screws did as the disposal I was replacing is only 5 years old and looks new externally. But, the screws, even though they looked identical, in my case had different threads. If you’re going to be hooking up the drain from your dishwasher to it, it has a port for that, and knocking out the plug was easy. Just follow instructions and see my photos. I couldn’t use the magnetic catch ring on my installation because my cast iron sink is too thick and there’s not enough of a gap between the sink and disposal to install it. If you have a typical stainless steel sink, this shouldn’t be a problem. Other types, like granite or composite, might be too thick and not leave enough room to put it. There’s a reset button (breaker) on it in case the motor gets stuck. This prevents it overheating and shorting the windings. The rubber removable splash guard comes out for easy cleaning and removal of anything that gets in it by accident, won’t grind up or jams it up. See instructions on how to deal with a jam up. Speaking of jam ups, Of most of the jam-up disposal calls I did back in the day, they were almost always caused by someone cleaning out their aquarium and some stray gravel got stuck in it. Included is a stopper for filling the sink and keeping waste from flying out if the rubber splash guard flaps are not enough to do it. Conclusion: I ran it hard to test it out. I put everything from carrot pieces to ice in it and it performed with no problems. It is much quieter than the disposal it replaced. Highly recommended.

I took the time to install the Frigidaire 3/4 HP disposal last week. I replaced a ½ HP Badger Insinkerator that has been in operation for longer than I have owned my home – 10+ years. I am pretty handy, and have done plenty of plumbing tasks, but this was my first garbage disposal install. I usually use my disposal for clearing random food waste off plates after rinsing them off, and not so much for mashing in vegetable peels and other heavy processing. The toughest things I toss into my disposal would be ice and some citrus pieces for cleaning. I always used the disposal as a backup for what didn’t scrape off into the trash. To that point I would find myself running the disposal every other day to keep it cleared out, and to mitigate build-up. One of my complaints of my old unit was the volume and vibration. With that being my main areas to address I was looking forward to testing out the Frigidaire 3/4 HP disposal. The Badger Insinkerator I had is one of the most common disposals out there, so what I note as improvements or differences likely apply to a lot of households with older units. The Frigidaire boasts a couple of novel improvements over my old Badger. The upgraded power is the first thing I noted – increasing from 1/2 to 3/4. This provides greater torque for tougher grinding tasks. It also has swiveling impellor blades, which I would assume provide resistance to jams like my old fixed bladed disposal. The splashguard is removable (a welcome improvement), which allows for easier clearing of blockages or retrieving items that fell into the drain. There’s also the BIOSHIELD antimicrobial coating to help reduce odors. The Silver Guard, which helps catch wayward metal objects before slipping into the drain is a cool feature. Its a magnetic ring that wraps around the outside of the drain under the sink, and can help magnetically catch any ferrous metals (sterling silver, and good quality stainless won’t be caught). The power cord is also integrated on this unit but can be hardwired as well. The disposal also has a 10 year warranty for breakage during normal usage and a lifetime warranty against any corrosion related problems. Installing the disposal required the removal of my old one. This was the hardest part of the installation process. I removed the drain fittings connecting the disposal to my dishwasher and the house plumbing, and moved them somewhat out of the way. I thankfully had all of the tools I needed to remove the old disposal, including my little Z-shaped double end screwdriver. If you don’t have one of these, google it, and go buy one because it makes the removal 10X easier. I popped this tool in the circular openings of the threaded metal shroud mounted underneath and got to work. I had to apply pressure to the tool while hammering it to get the disposal body to start threading off the undersink mount. I stacked up a support structure underneath the disposal body to help hold it while I spun it off. Once it was free I let the excess water drain out and I set it aside. From there it was just a matter of unscrewing the 3 undermount screws and popping the retaining ring off to get all of the old hardware removed. I cleaned everything up to a shine and got things ready to install. I bought a roll of plumbers puddy tape since I only needed a little bit for this job – it was 5 bucks at Lowe’s. I applied this to the underside of the new drain sleeve and inserted it into the sink. I tossed a towel over it and set the old disposal on top of it just like in the instructions. From there it was just following the assembly diagram and stacking the parts in the correct order. Bolting the threaded undersink mount was straightforward, and looked just like the one I had removed. I assembled the tailpiece pipe onto the disposal and screwed down the mounting flange. The tailpiece has a rubber gasket in place on the end already, so no need to hunt for that part. I made sure the orientation of the pipe was as vertical as possible since adjusting later would be difficult. Per the instructions I popped out the plug stopper on the dishwasher connection. After that was done, I was ready to install the disposal body. I planned ahead when installing the undersink mount so that the threading location would leave the tailpiece lined up with my existing plumbing. Threading it on I used the same Z-tool to rotate it into place, and some taps from the hammer to snug it up. Once it was on, I wrapped the Silver Guard around the drain insert and snapped it together. The tailpiece didn’t perfectly lineup since it had a slightly shorter elbow than the old one, so I had to move my pipes around to fit. I threaded everything back together, hooked up the dishwasher line and plugged it in. Overall, it took about 1.5 hours start to finish, so not too bad. For installation you can also choose to hardwire the electrical connection. The instructions take you through removing the cord and trimming the wires to prep the connection. You will need an additional metal strain relief (I think 3/8”) to clamp the incoming wire, and protect it from any sharp edges. This gives you the flexibility to power it however you choose. Operation wise the Disposal works great. Flip on the switch and it spins to life. It has a distinctive electric motor whir that you can easily hear when it spools down. For volume it is exactly as loud as my old Badger (nearly identical dB meter readings). I accept that I am getting the same amount of noise while increasing power 50%, so that is impressive. The quality of the noise is better though – my Badger was a rough churning noise compared to smoother sounding output of the Frigidaire. Vibration is also greatly reduced. I used to get some harmonic vibrations from the old disposal, but now I don’t feel much at all. The vibrations appear to be dampened out really well, which keeps noise down across the household. Its still too early to assess how well the BIOSHIELD works as food gunk will need some time to build up/fester before it becomes pungent. The Silver Guard has already caught a few of my kids smaller metal forks/spoons, which has been great. Retrieving their plastic utensils that make it down the drain is a lot easier and less gross with the removable splash guard. So far I have fed the disposal my normal ice and citrus pieces, and it powered through that without any issue. The ice was handled much easier than on the outgoing unit, so I am happy to witness to bonus power being used. I went against the norm for myself and ran carrot peals, strawberry heads, and other trimmings down the disposal. No issues found at all, and everything was pulverized. Overall, this is a nice garbage disposal. It has plenty of power to churn through everything I would throw at it. It has more power than the outgoing unit while not increasing the noise levels. Vibrations were significantly reduced, which I appreciated the most. The added features of the Silver Guard and the removable splash guard are welcome changes for sure, and something I have already utilized a couple of times. Installation was really no different than any other garbage disposal I looked at, so there were no major headaches putting it in.

Not even a month ago, the disposal that came with the house I bought in 2019 died on me. Replaced an old Badger 1/2 HP with this 3/4 HP big boy. My experience is going to be doing a replacement instead of a new install. Luckily my house came with an outlet beneath my sink area so power was no issue for me. Make sure to take a look under your sink to see if that will be an issue. The box came with everything needed to either replace an old disposal or simply install it fresh except for the hose to your dishwasher (so you will use the existing one). Start to finish took me about 40 minutes as this was the 2nd ever I have replaced so I was reading the installation guide like crazy. Very easy to follow along so you don't miss anything. Even though this Frigidaire is bigger than my old Badger, it fit perfectly into the existing piping. Though I did remove and did a thorough cleaning job on all the pipes. It twisted and mounted perfectly into the existing clamp and locked into place. Removed and replaced all seals to make sure a tight, leak-free fit and then it was off to the races. Disposal itself is a lot powerful and quieter than my old unit and chewed up a family of four's uneaten meals with no effort. A cool and neat feature is the installation of the magnetic ring that fits near the neck of the unit. It is supposed to catch metal utensils or maybe even a metallic ring before it gets shredded to oblivion or damaged. Overall I am highly satisfied with Frigidaire and this well built disposal.
