    Good looking microwave

Nice microwave. Very large capacity. Easy to use. Cook’s food much quicker than my old microwave.

Don't buy or buy with extended warranty.

Very nice microwave until it breaks few weeks after warranty is over. I don't think it's isolated case becaudr the part I need is OUT OF STOCK. 600$ part is 177. Would have been 777$ plus medications for headache. 600$ a year for microwave seems expensive

    Good microwave

This item was purchased to replace an older unit, also a GE Profile, that failed after 10 yrs. I went back with the GE Profile line because of the dimensions. I didn't want a unit that was going to limit my ability to stir a big pot on the cooktop just below the microwave. The differences between the older and new units are as follows: the new unit has an enamel inside; the old one was white plastic. This change makes it much darker inside the microwave. But really, I don't stand and watch my foods get nuked, so probably just something to get used to. The new unit has a dial instead of direct input. I did like the instant push buttons of the my old unit for minutes 1 through 6, but it only takes a twist of the dial to select how long you want to cook something. Also, the dial only lets you select times in increments of 15 seconds. So unless you are a control freak, this should give you enough flexibility. (You can always just stand there and open the door when you wish to stop the microwave, if, say, you're wanting to melt butter but not boil it-which is what I used to do with the old one anyway.) There is not a shelf in the new one for dual level cooking. For me this was not a factor since I never felt the old unit did a great job of even heating when I did cook things on both levels. Now at least, when I have taller items to put in, I don't have to remove the shelf and find a place to store it. Things I like about the GE Profile line: large glass turntable allows me to use my 5 quart pyrex dish inside the microwave. Turntable off button allows me to use a 9 x 13 pyrex dish with built in handles inside the unit. A more than adequate fan sucks away cooking fumes quickly. All in all a good microwave that matches my other kitchen appliances.

Great vent and light are a bonus!

We needed an over the range microwave that could vent outside, and this one does a terrific job. The vent is the main reason we selected this model, and it is strong with multiple settings. It does exactly what I wanted it to do. The over-stove light is exceptionally bright, which was an unexpected surprise and delight. Now to the actual jobs a microwave does! Like most folks, we use our microwave mostly for reheating. There's a bit of a learning curve with the presets, the interaction between the time you want to cook and the power levels you can chose, as the written instructions that came with the microwave don't cover any details at all. But the digital display is exceptionally good about telling you what to do next, so even though it is not as intuitive to use as push-button microwaves you can (usually) easily figure out the process. I don't have much experience with sensor cooking, so I'm not sure about my next statement: to me, the reheating process seems to take a little longer than my old microwave; but that could very well be because I'm still a bit unsure what power setting some of the presets and sensors are using. I'm a bit of a full-power zapper myself, but my husband generally prefers to reheat at lower power levels. He has not noticed a difference in the time it takes to get his food to his preferred temperature. I can't say I dislike the dial as opposed to the old push-button controls... I'm still adjusting, so part of me misses my buttons--- but I don't dislike the dial.

Questions & Answers
  • Can this microwave be vented internally, or must it be externally vented?

Hi Jackson- We have great news! The microwave can be vented internally (recirculating). The over-the-range microwave ovens are designed for adaptation to the following three types of ventilation: *Outside exhaust (horizontal). *Outside exhaust (vertical). *Recirculating (non-vented). If the model is converted to recirculating and not vented to the outside, the air will be recirculated through a disposable charcoal filter (included) that helps remove smoke and odors. Upfront charcoal filter with indicator light indicates when the odor-removing charcoal filter needs to be replaced. Thanks for choosing our GE Profile™ Series. Enjoy! SUEatGEA

  • Does this model go with our model? What is the steam cleaning and how does that work? Currently, own a GE profile model JVM1870SF001. We had it over 20 years with no problems. However itis starting to show rust issues around the door and inside. Thanks

Yes, all 30" Over-the-Range Microwaves are approximately the same width and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our current 30" Over-the-Range Microwave models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" Over-the-Range Microwave model. Each Microwave comes with the mounting hardware (mounting bracket, screws, exhaust adapter), top and rear templates, and Installation Instructions needed to complete the installation process. When replacing an Over-the-Range Microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new Microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts and exhaust adapter should also be used. The Steam Clean feature generates steam to re-hydrate dried spills and splatters, making it easier to clean the Microwave interior. To use this feature: 1. Press the Steam Clean button. 2. Put in the steam bowl (if one was included with your model) or a microwave safe bowl filled with 1/4 cup of water. 3. Press the dial or Start/Pause button to start. 4. After Steam Clean is done, remove the turntable and turntable support, then wipe out the inside of the oven cavity with a paper towel or soft cloth.

  • I currently have (or had) a GE PVM9215SFSS. It died a sudden and quiet death. It no longer gets power at all (outlet and fuses are fine). Can I replace it with this Unit? I see the measurements match, just want to see if the mounting plate is same.

Hi ChristineNYC, thanks for reaching out! All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" over-the-range model. This makes choosing a replacement microwave easy! - NOTE: When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts, and exhaust adapter should also be used. The model that you've provided here as a replacement will work wonderfully in place of your old unit. We hope that this helps! Happy shopping! -Michael
