This is my first GoPro, and as a newbie user I’d say setting it up was pretty straightforward. The instructions were easy to follow, though you do need to download the GoPro Quik app to update the camera the first time using it. You also need to link it to your phone. That part went quick and smoothly. The camera itself is super compact and light and easy to carry around. The built-in light has three brightness levels which is handy whether you're filming in daylight or low light. Tried it at night with some lighting at the park and the video footage was amazingly bright using the built-in light. It’s got four simple capture modes: 16:9 video, 4:3 video, slo-mo, and 12MP photo. Switching between them is quick and intuitive on either the touchscreen display or on the app. The 4K video quality is sharp, and you can grab stills from your footage and easily edit using the app. It says it is waterproof up to 16 feet, although I haven’t tried submerging it under water I’m glad I don’t have to worry bringing this camera to our beach excursions in the summer. One cool feature I appreciate is it uploads your clips to the cloud while charging, it is really a nice touch because you don’t have to worry saving your clips manually. I think battery life is pretty decent, after a few photos and video footages, the battery has decreased about half the charge from a full charge. Overall, the GoPro Lit Hero 4K action camera is easy to use and worth checking out if you’re in the market for it. Price point is good too.

So I’ve been using this little guy for a couple weeks now and I need to share my thoughts on the new GoPro LIT HERO. I’ve had a good and frustrating time with it so far, but the good outweighs the bad for sure. For reference, I am newer to action cameras. I have had a couple of “off-brand” cameras that I found adequate for my needs at the time. First off, the "LIT" part isn't just a catchy name; this little guy will help you out if you’ve always struggled with older GoPros when the sun starts to set. Now the light is fairly bright, but only effective at a close range. It will blind someone if they are looking at the camera but it isn’t going to light your way on a bike trail when it’s pitch black out. I did find it useful with a chest strap on a night trail run. It would be a pricey flashlight so I wouldn’t get it just for that but it was a nice bonus for me as an avid runner, especially with the sun setting around 5pm now. So I mentioned I’ve had fun and frustration. The frustration came in with the Micro SD card. Most manufacturers give guidelines and recommendations on what types of storage cards their device needs and this is one that you must follow. When I got my GP LIT I just popped in a micro sd card I had sitting around. It had a U3 rating and GoPro said it needs to be at least V30. I looked it up and most of what I found said U3 and V30 were both the same speed, so I assumed it would work. It did work, until it didn’t. Then nothing worked right. The touch screen was not responsive, it wouldn’t take pics or video, it just wouldn’t function at all. I had a chat with customer service and they helped me understand the “U” and “V” ratings are very much different. With their help, I was able to obtain a proper micro sd card and it has worked flawlessly ever since. Since I got the right card, the touch screen is incredibly responsive. Photo and Video functions are working properly, and the app connection is quick, easy and quite useful. I’ve never had an app like the GoPro Quik app before. It is very handy to be able to view my photos and videos without taking out the micro sd, finding an adapter, and firing up my laptop. The touchscreen is also very intuitive and easy to use. The battery life has been great so far. I let it sit for a few days and it went from 95% to 90%, which is pretty good I’d say. I haven’t used it for any really long periods of time but with what I’ve used it for, I think I wouldn’t have any reservations about using it on a long hike or run. I also just want to make sure everyone understands that this is newer than, but not an full upgrade to the numbered HERO series. For example, if you have a HERO 11 or 12, the LIT does not have functions on it like, horizon lock or leveling, different digital lenses (hyperview, superview, etc), or a front LCD. What you do get in the LIT is a smaller, lighter weight 4K camera that is still waterproof, high quality and a lot of fun. Overall, this is a perfect action camera for me, a high-quality entry level device to help capture my trail running, biking, hiking, and SUP adventures. I am trying to get away to Mexico next month and If I can I’ll bring the LIT HERO snorkeling with me. Really, for around $250 I think you get a lot.

Amazing GoPro cam. I was amazed at how tiny it is however it packs a punch. Inside the package they include the camera itself a helmet mount and a small plastic cover for the flash LEDs (here is my only con about the camera, this one is not attached to the camera in any way, they should have provided like a little cable or lanyard so it stays with the cam, I feel its going to be lost soon...). You open the little door on the side that reveals the type C USB charging port and the Micro SD port. They do not include a Micro SD card, you must get your own and it must be of a V30 class speed minimum, or the camera will complain and won't let you use slower ones, since its capable of shooting at 4k60 resolution. It can also shoot slow mo and take 12mpx pictures. The flash is nice and has 3 levels of brightness for dusk and night, its very bright. It can take videos on full 4:3 format, video (wide), they say timelapse is coming soon, I guess with a software update. When you pair it with their app, it adds stabilization to the videos, I guess the camera itself doesn't do that, and its done on a software side I guess, however videos are very stable and not shaky at all. If you subscribe to their Premium plan, you get cloud storage and the camera can auto upload your media to it, you also get two free replacements if your camera gets damaged. If you don't subscribe, you can still use the camera, only difference is you will have to take out the SD card to check your videos. I love that the camera lens is replaceable (since this is an action camera, its prone to some damage so this is great) and has already built in water resistance up to 16 feet, so no need to get those plastic covers (unless you are going deeper I guess). The bottom holds your typical threaded standard hole for mounts however it also has a magnetic mount and the ones you insert those long screws (for this one, the flaps can lay down flush and you can get them out for this mount method). Battery life has been great too, I had it fully charged in the morning and when fishing with my friends and there was still battery left by the end of day (of course YMMV depending of how long you shoot, if you use the flash or not etc). Definitely a big upgrade, specially when you consider how tiny it is!!!
