Optimize your networking capabilities with this Insignia™ NS-PNWIC50 RJ-45 in-line coupler that extends the length of 2 Ethernet 10/100Base-T Cat-5 or Cat-5e cables and features a straight-through wiring configuration to suit your needs.
Q: can a cat6 cable be used with this? I would order one but need one today ?
A: Since I’ve seen conflicting answers here I wanted to give you a definite answer based on personal experience. The short answer is “YES” the coupler fine with cat6. I needed to add an additional outdoor surveillance camera at my house and ordered a 100’ cat6 cable along with the camera. While running the cable through the walls and attic I realized that the 100’ wasn’t long enough. Rather than return the cable I bought a 50’ cat 6 cable and this coupler from Best Buy. It works great without any loss of signal so if you need to join 2 cat6 cables don’t hesitate to purchase this coupler.
Q: Can I use this to make my computer Cord longer
A: You can use this product to extend the length of 2 Ethernet 10/100Base-T Cat-5 or Cat-5e cables.
Q: Will this work with cat7? How would you use outdoors/waterproof?
A: Yes it will work with CAT7. For outdoor use I would suggest shrink wrap.
Q: can cat 5 cable be run outside
A: It can but if it's only rated for indoor use, the outer cover of the cable is going to weather and crack in the sun and eventually fail. If you run it inside conduit then it's fine. If you don't have conduit you'll have to purchase the more expensive outdoor cat5 that has a weather proof outer layer.
A: CAT6 connectors are RJ45. But Yes. The only issue you may run into is that CAT6 support up to 250 MHz, which is twice the amount as CAT5e, however it may not be a change mattering on your network and your network adapter inside your computer.
A: It will work, and I wouldn't worry about it, but technically your performance could be slightly degraded. I think there is very little chance of that degradation being significant enough to notice in any way, but....if you can just get a longer Cat 7 wire, it would be better than using a coupler, no matter what its rating.
A: Yes. It has an opening on each side. Plug in your ethernet cable from your modem into one side and another ethernet cable to your laptop into the other side. It essentially acts like a longer ethernet cable.
