Kevel - Mutatis Mutandis - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The star of tenor John Matthew Myers is rapidly in the ascendent. His debut album, Desiderium, coincides with his Metropolitan Opera debut in Brett Dean's Hamlet. Desiderium - Inchan ardent desire or longing, a feeling of loss or grief for something lostInch - beautifully showcases Myers' mellifluous voice. His thoughtful program of works by American and American émigré composers opens with Samuel Barber's yearning Knoxville Summer of 1915 - rarely heard sung by a tenor - and transitions to Charles Griffes' similarly searching settings of 3 Poems of Fiona Macleod, and Andre Previn's 4 Songs for Tenor and Piano. What follows is A Letter from Sullivan Ballou, set to the words of a poignant letter by an American Civil War officer, by John Kander (of Kander and Ebb musical theatre fame). Rounding out the recital are 4 Walt Whitman Songs by German-born composer Kurt Weill, including the classic O Captain! My Captain! John Matthew Myers says, InchCall me a big-hearted Romantic. Each song on this album conveys yearning, separation, loneliness or distance but also a sense of intimacy and longing for connection.Inch It certainly does. Desiderium is an auspicious debut album, and one especially attuned to our times.

Two Years after the successful and highly praised debut album The Funeral Pyre that took the underground scene by surprise and received high praise from critics all over the world with it's unique mix of elements of Black Thrash, Pagan and Speed metal. KVAEN dominated the underground scene and had the audience in a firm grip and still today the album continues to hold a special place for many, with the new album perfectly titled InchThe Great BelowInch Kvaen has taken everything to the max and created a follow up even more grand than it's debut, the blades are sharpened, and the sound is bigger than ever. The Great below is a sophomore album you'll only hear once in your lifetime. Building on the sound developed on the Funeral Pyre but taking everything to new levels with a monster of 8 tracks, this time accompanied by drummer Tommi Tuhkala whom also serves as the live drummer for the band, but the album doesn't stop surprising there, on this new album we have some special guests on both solos and vocal duets, Jeff Loomis, Mike Weed, Sebastian (Battle) Angus Norder, Nephente, even swigging a duet with Finnish folk metal vocalist Vreth of Finntroll for ending song The Fire Within Him Burns. The Great below is an album that simply delivers some of the finest tunes you will ever hear this year!

Sometimes it's enough to look at the cover art, logo and band photo to know exactly what to expect. Add to this an album title like InchSavage OverkillInch and all is perfectly clear. KÖMMAND from Seattle play raw and uncompromising black/thrash in the old ways - the only right ways. The constant onslaught of atonal riffs and real drums is what it's all about. Awesomely ugly, gritty and snotty vocals interspersed with eardrums-piercing speed metal screams and just enough of InchUGHsInch are guaranteed to make any real old school metalhead grin in delight. The attitude seeps and pure filth spreads around with every note on this album. It's bound to rip some heads off and send wimps home crying! These US kömmandos stand for stubborn, ancient sounds and keeping metal dangerous and unwanted, just as it was meant to be, while sending a big InchF**k offInch to all the safe and sterile bands out there. They worship at the altar of DARKTHRONE, BATHORY, AURA NOIR, INFERNÖ, BEWITCHED and NOCTURNAL BREED, being boozebrothers in arms with BARBARIAN, BUNKER 66, SARKE, RUST, OMEGA and the like.
