A: Hello and sorry for responding a little late to this but yes my friend you can turn off the freezer and it acts as a normal refrigerator! I've turned off the freezer part of the refrigerator and it acts like the rest of the unit and the the food stays fresh perfectly. There was another Frigid I had my eyes on but it didn't have the freezer option. I figured I'd buy this one just in case because while it has a freezer you can it off and use it as a normal fridge! But having it just case is nice both ways!

Q: How do you properly defrost?
A: For model LRONC0705V the defrost process has a defrost button on the temperature knob. It is necessary to regularly defrost your refrigerator in order to ensure efficient operation. The frost on the surface of the evaporator should not exceed 1/4 inches (6 mm) before defrosting. To defrost, press the defrost button (blue button). Remove food from around the evaporator before starting the defrosting operation. Once defrosting is complete, the defrost button will return to its normal position automatically. If the frost on the surface of the evaporator exceeds 1/4 inch (6 mm), check and empty the drip tray after defrosting. Open with a screwdriver. Remove and empty the drip tray, dry it off and reassemble it. ^Daphane
