Andre Bratten - Silvester - VINYL LP

A lot has been written about seminal Norwegian black metal band Mayhem but André Bratten's new record for Smalltown Supersound surfaces a little known story about the group. In 1986-87, years before their 1993 debut record, guitarist Øystein Aarseth (aka Euronymous) took a musical pilgrimage to Germany to solicit collaboration with one of his musical heroes. Øystein, who tragically was destined to be murder by former member Varg Vikernes in 1993, bought an Interrail ticket and travelled from Norway to Germany to seek out experimental musician Conrad Schnitzler. Conrad was the founder of West German Krautock incubating club the Zodiac Free Arts Lab in West Berlin in 1968 and a former member of Tangerine Dream and Kluster (key experimental groups in the development of industrial music and Kosmiche electronic music). Øystein sat outside Schnitzler's house and refused to leave until he was allowed in to talk. His persistence paid off, with Schnitzler surprisingly agreeing to write a piece of music for Mayhem. The piece of music became InchSilvester AnfangInch, the first track and introduction to Mayhem's classic debut InchDeathcrushInch. A detailed percussive number, Mayhem still open their heavy live shows with this music today. When Mayhem founder Jørn InchNecrobutcherInch Stubberud told the story behind InchSilvester AnfangInch to Bratten at a party, they immediately had the idea that Bratten should remix or rework this little known track. Totally absorbed in the sounds of Schnitzler and it's strange and unusual pairing with Mayhem, Bratten started out with a plan to make one remix. He ended up with a series of tracks inspired by both Schnitzler's intro and the sounds of the debut record InchDeathcrushInch. The results transpired into a mutation of Conrad Schnitzler, Mayhem and André Bratten. InchSilvesterInch is Mayhem and Schnitzler reimagined. Or deconstructed and t

The Antlers - Green to Gold (Opaque Tan Vinyl) - VINYL LP

Opaque Tan. Green to Gold is the much anticipated new album from New York based, Indie/Folk band, The Antlers. Perhaps what distinguishes Green to Gold from the rest of The Antlers' canon is it's, well, sunniness. Conceived and written almost entirely in themorning hours, Green to Gold is the band's first new music in nearly seven years, and easily their most luminous to date.InchI think this is the first album I've made thathas no eeriness in it,Inch singer and primary songwriter Peter Silberman asserts. InchI setout to make Sunday morning music.InchThe brighter outlook emerged, paradoxically, after a succession of ominous events. In 2015, Silberman suffered with an auditory condition that made touring near impossible and he retreated to the quiet of Upstate New York to heal. His return in 2017 with a solo album was short lived when he was diagnosed with lesions on his vocal chords, which required surgery and again a quiet rest and recovery period. Silberman explains. InchI took these health obstacles as a sign that I should changecourse for a little while. I hadn't made a full stop like that since The Antlers began.InchBut he still felt the strong pull to spend time and work with longtime drummer Michael Lerner, and frequently invited him up to visit the idyllic hamlet he now called home. The two friends' days typically involved long walks in the woods, but routinely ended up in Silberman's converted-garage studio. InchI would record him playing drums in the studio while he listened to old soul and R&B songs in headphones... and those drum recordings ultimately served as starting points for thesongs that followed. At the time, we were merely attempting to make music together again, without really knowing how to approach it, or to what end.InchInchI think the shift in tone is the result of getting older. It doesn't make sense for me to try to tap into the same energy
