  • Key Specs
    • Image Sensor Size: APS-C (23.6 x 15.7 mm)
    • Effective Pixels: 20.9 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
    • Standardized Video Resolution: 4K (2160p) (An approximated measurement of the product’s video resolution. This may not be the exact resolution of the product, which may be slightly more or less when using a pixel-by-pixel measurement.)
  • General
    • Brand: Nikon
    • Model Number: 1784
    • Product Name: Z50II Mirrorless Camera Body
    • Color: Black
    • Camera Model Family: Nikon Z 50
    • Digital Camera Type: Mirrorless Camera Body Only
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Sensor Size: APS-C (23.6 x 15.7 mm)
    • Total Pixels: 21.51 megapixels (Generally, the more pixels, the higher the image resolution and the finer the detail that can be seen.)
    • Digital Zoom: None (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • Image File Format(s): JPEG, RAW, HEIF (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
    • Eye Autofocus (Eye AF): true (Automatically seeks out and focuses on the subject's eye and holds it as the camera and subject move and as the photographer shoots at high frame rates.)
    • Number of Autofocus Points (Up To): 231
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 1/4000 to 30 s (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum ISO: 100 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. When there is plenty of light, using the lowest ISO setting available will typically result in a higher quality image.)
    • Maximum ISO: 51200 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. In low-light environments, using a higher ISO setting helps to capture a sharp, bright image.)
    • Maximum Expandable ISO: 204800 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. Expandable ISO settings use software to simulate brighter images than the device's native ISO range is capable of capturing.)
    • Brightness Control: true (Allows the camera to adjust the brightness of a captured image for optimal exposure.)
    • Self Timer: true
    • Self-Timer Delay: 2 seconds, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 20 seconds
    • Shooting Modes: Auto, Programmed auto with flexible program (P), Shutter-priority auto (S), Aperture-priority auto (A), Manual (M) (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Scene Modes: portrait; landscape; child; sports; close up; night portrait; night landscape; party/indoor; beach/snow; sunset; dusk/dawn; pet portrait; candlelight; blossom; autumn colors; food (Exposure modes with predetermined optimal settings for capturing specific scenes. • Effective Pixels: 20.9 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • Lens
    • Lens Mount Compatibility: Nikon Z
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Automatic, Fill-in, Red-eye reduction, Rear curtain sync, Slow sync (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)
    • Integrated Flash: true
    • External Flash Mount: Hot Shoe (A cold shoe is a mounting point on top of a camera to securely attach a flash unit or other compatible accessories. A hot shoe is a cold shoe with an electrical connection that insures communication and synchronization between camera and accessory.)
  • Display
    • Screen Size: 3.2 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Viewfinder Type: Electronic (A viewfinder is the part of a camera (or attachment) that allows you to see and focus a scene in frame. Optical viewfinders let you view the scene directly through the lens. Electronic viewfinders display the image on a screen in its approximate final form.)

    Buy one!

This is an incredible little camera. I bought this to do some birding and macro photos. Auto focus is night and day different from the original z50. The camera just performs. My only complaint would be is the battery. Life is not the best and I wish that you could see the percentage of battery that you have left so you could better plan. Not a big deal just to bring an extra one with you though. Image quality is great as well. Love the 3D tracking and the different subject detection modes. Would definitely recommend for a beginner or intermediate user. Perfect travel camera!

Jus’ like the Z50, but way better!

I had the original Z50 for a few years and loved it. I ordered the Z50II as soon as it was announced, and it jus’ got here today (02DEC2024). It is FAST FAST FAST. I love the new bright EVF (electronic viewfinder). It feels great in the hand, too. Jus’ slightly larger than the original Z50, but slightly smaller than my Nikon Z6II (full frame). I connected the FTZII adapter with the Nikon 18-300 lens, and it works flawlessly. Images are super sharp even at 1/80 shutter speed thanks to the built-in VR on the lens. Note: This body does not have built in VR so make sure you use lenses that do, or it will def affect your ability to shoot in low light without raising your ISO real high. If this camera body had dual card slots and built in VR it would be perfect, but for the price (under $1,000), you honestly cannot complain about the Z50II from Nikon. I also like how you can charge the battery internally via a USB-C cable. I like it because you can “charge on the fly” using a portable charger without even removing the battery. I will still give it 5 stars. I’d give it a 4.5 if I could only because I’d really prefer to have dual card slots and built-in VR. But again……cannot complain!

    A D500 heir.

Excellent camera , almost an authentic heir of Nikon D500 , with a DSRL image quality in an affordable mirrorless gear. Very satisfied.
