Nice for road trips
They are nice when you are not able to use the chargin station the controls themselves last pretty long anyway but these are good to have although it sucks that you can use them with a controller which is what I was hoping

Grip to play Arms or other games
It's nice to have the grips on to play motion control games because the joy-con alone feels too slim. Also it has batteries included to keep your controller powered longer but they are not rechargeable.

Convenient for two player use
It's always annoying when one joycon dies in the middle of a multi-player game, and the only way to charge it is to either attach it to the console or a grip which prevents you from being able to use each joycon independently. The battery pack allows you to keep playing and you can deal with charging it later.
