Snaptain - E20 FPV Drone with 2.7K Camera and Remote Controller - Gray

Very happy with the purchase, but it is definitely hard to fly. Once you get the hang of it, it is a lot of fun as a beginner FPV drone. The camera feed gets surprisingly decent quality when the connection is strong enough. If you learn to get good at flying this, anything from DJI will have you feeling like a pro pilot.

I bought this drone on November 6, 2023 as a gift for my husband and it was decent while it lasted. My husband will use it occasionally. Today, February 11, 2024, one of the propeller wouldn’t spin. My husband tried to fix it and it just stopped working. You really do get what you pay for. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

I love my drone, weather lately has kept me grounded

The Vantop Snaptain E20 drone is very neat and interesting compared to other drones we own in the family. It is extremely small and lightweight with a decent quality camera. Packaging: the drone comes in a much smaller box than I expect. It comes with a neat compact storage/travel bag that fits everything comfortably and securely. As an organized person, I really like this because it ensures that everything is in one place when I am ready to take it out for a fly. The bag is also very protective and has foam padding to keep all the items safe during travel. When removing the product from the package, everything is contained within the travel bag itself. Included: Along with the drone, the package contains the remote, two batteries, two A and two B propellers, a screwdriver, extra screws, a user manual, quick guide, USB (USB-A to USB-C) charging cable, and 4 propeller guards. Important to note: the guide advises to only fly in open areas, keep in sight, and go no higher than 262ft. Besides avoiding adverse weather conditions, it also advises to not fly in wind higher than 3 miles per second. This may be a typo, because that translates to a whopping 3,600mph, but it recommends flying in only windless conditions. So, they may have meant to write 3mph. Construction: the drone is made of very lightweight but sturdy plastic. While the overall construction has held up well even after getting caught a few times in some tall wildflowers, the plastic has sustained quite a few nicks and scuffs. The camera lens also has a few nicks and scuffs from that now. It has folding arms that snap into place easily, but they need to be readjusted whenever it gets caught anywhere. The propeller guards have worked very well in protecting the propellers during those moments. One thing I learned is that sometimes you have to move the little notch in the guard to ensure it is snapped into place. Two kept falling off for me until I realized I could move the notch without risk of breaking anything, which was my fear. Camera: I was pleasantly surprised by the camera’s quality. My security cameras are larger and have lower quality than this little thing. The photos are clear, perhaps not as vivid as other cameras, but nevertheless great shots with no pixelation or over/underexposure. The videos are the same quality as the photos, as well as smooth and seamless. My recording came out to 25FPS. I do wish I could move the camera during flight, as it can record at any position in a 90-degree angle, but I do not see controls for it to move during flight, so I use my finger to position and leave it where I want it to shoot. App and Phone Connection: the Snaptain app that connects to the drone is pretty simple and straightforward. It updates the firmware for the drone as needed. It includes controls to use if you prefer that instead of the remote. The app controls are helpful and easy to use but it is somewhat confusing to use the control toggles on that versus the remote because they are hard to see. Since they are white overlayed on the camera view that the drone is catching, there is not much contrast between them and the screen. I do prefer how certain aspects work on the app more than on the remote, such as take-off and land. This is because I am able to see that it is actually working rather than waiting to hear a beep. In order to connect the app to the drone, the Wi-Fi has to be connected first. For some reason, this takes me about three tries each time to get the phone to connect to the drone’s Wi-Fi. Sometimes, such as after a firmware update, it just drops the connection and I had to reconnect. It wasn’t a big deal, just confusing and an inconvenience. Remote connectivity: The remote is fairly simple to use, it comes with an overlay of instructions which are really helpful. The remote connects automatically so it’s quick and simple to get flying. One issue I have come across is that sometimes the remote loses connection and I have to turn the drone off and back on to reset the connection. When it is connected, each device beeps to let you know. I appreciate the construction and feel of the controller. It is sturdy, has an area to put the phone, and has handles that pop out if desired. Using the drone: While I enjoyed using the drone, I also found it somewhat difficult and confusing. I was not sure if it was me or the drone at times. To start off, the drone must be unlocked using the toggles, as described in the guide. I liked this part because it prevents me from accidentally starting it, plus it prevents my kids from getting a hold of setting it off. There is also a quick start button that gets it going right away but it also has its safety mechanism as well on the remote and phone. Before flying I make sure to calibrate the drone to ensure that it remains stable, without this it kind of starts flying sideways and erratically. When flying, it goes well sometimes, but at some point, it starts flying in another direction than the one I am directing it to go. This is a bit nerve-wracking as it almost left my backyard a few times going right when I said left. If left hovering, it starts moving back and forth and then kind of going in one direction. Flight time lasts about 18 minute per battery, so it is great that two are included. It is noticeable when it is losing charge because it is no longer able to maintain elevation. Grounding it is tricky. If I press the stop button, it just falls out of the sky. So far, it’s been fine from those sudden drops, but my nerves have been rattled. The remote comes with a speed switch, that allows you to control how fast it goes. So far, I have used it at the slowest setting, and it still speeds up pretty fast. According to the specs, it can go up to 17mph so I recommend starting slow to prevent it from going too far too fast and losing sight of it. Overall, this is a neat starting drone with sturdy construction and a nice camera. I definitely recommend getting practice somewhere out in the open where losing sight of it is difficult until you become comfortable with it. I also recommend ensuring it is not windy when using it. I am still having fun flying it and practicing my drone skill with it.
