  • Key Specs
    • Lens Mount Compatibility: Sony E-Mount
    • Lens Type: Wide Angle zoom
    • Minimum Focal Length: 10 millimeters (The minimum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The shorter the focal length, the greater the area of scene captured.)
    • Maximum Focal Length: 18 millimeters (The maximum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The greater the focal length, the smaller the area of scene captured.)
    • Maximum Aperture: f/4 (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)

    • Minimum Aperture: f/22 (The smallest opening of a lens, typically expressed in f-numbers. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that can enter the lens. A smaller aperture creates a larger depth of field, which keeps both foreground and background in focus.)
    • Focal Length 35mm Film Equivalent: 15-27mm (The focal length of the lens that provides the same field of view as a 35mm film camera.)

Ideal for landscape photography and emphasizing perspective, this Sony SEL1018 10-18mm wide-angle zoom lens features built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization to produce crisp images and videos.

Lens Buying Guide

  • Compatible with most NEX E-mount cameras: For use with your existing camera.
  • Built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization: Provides a 4-stop shutter speed advantage to achieve crisp, clear images and videos.
  • Circular aperture design: Produces a pleasing circular, defocused effect for low-light shots and nightscapes.
  • 10-18mm focal length (15-27mm in 35mm equivalent): Ideal for shooting landscapes, even in low-light conditions.
  • 109°-76° angle of view: Lets you capture a wide area for greater detail.
  • 0.1x maximum magnification: Ideal for versatile shooting, from snapshots to stunning landscapes.
  • f/22 minimum aperture and f/4 maximum aperture: For optimal light gathering, resulting in clear, detailed images.
  • 3 aspherical lenses: Help correct spherical aberration and distortion, allowing you to shoot high-contrast images with minimal bleeding. Super extra-low dispersion glass produces highly detailed images with reduced color aberration.
  • Internal focusing system: Utilizes moving lens elements in the rear of the optical system for rapid autofocus response.

Q: On my a6300, close-up pix of flower blossoms are sharp and precise, but I need a wider angle lens to get the full bloom in the shot. Would this 10-18 wide angle zoom be better, or the 16mm f2.8 wide-angle be better? Thanks

A: Bear in mind the 16mm wide angle will be 1.5X 16 = 24MM....not really all that wide on a crop sensor camera. I bought a Sigma ART 16MM F1.4 lens (a FABULOUS lens) but disappointed that it was just not really all that wide. So, I bought the 10-18mm last month, and, problem solved. People will look distorted at 10MM but 10mm is great for landscape. You also will get great perspectives at 12 to 16mm on this lens, so, it's far more purposeful than buying a straight 16mm prime. I suggest you try the 10-18....what a great lens for the A6000 series. I just bought a 30mm Sony macro from BestBuy and that thing has a focus distance of 3.8 inches. So, for walking around, it's super easy to carry the 10-18 and the 30mm in my pocket.

Q: is this a true full frame lens or only aps-c?

A: You can use it at 12mm to 18mm 12mm and below will have vignetting.

Q: On Sony A6000 would a prime Wide Angle lens be better to use than the Sony 10-18mm F4 Zoom and why?

A: It depends on your needs. Clearly, prime lenses generally are better lenses; less distortion, finer resolution. The advantage of the 10-18 is that it nicely fills the lower gap of the 16-50 or 16-70. Since focal length is a logarithmic function, 10-18 is about the same range as covered by 16-50 so they go together nicely. I had compared the output of the zoom to the prime wa lenses in prints and can't tell the difference. Maybe if you're making 24x32 enlargements it would showup. I am more concerned with the convenience of carrying fewer lenses and have stuck with zooms.

Q: Is this lens compatible with the Sony a5100

A: As long as the a5100 is an e mount camera, yes it will fit and you will love it. Compact, well built and sharp.

Q: Is this lense comptatible with sony zv-e10?

A: Hi, Sony's commitment to customer satisfaction is our top priority. The lens is fully compatible with the camera. Thank you so much for your question. And thank you for choosing Sony. - Pakorn (Sony Social Support)

Q: 8/31/2022 Hi, may I have a question. I had a Nikon D500 and a Nikon Z9. Does Sony - 10-18mm f/4 Wide-Angle Zoom Lens for Most NEX E-Mount Cameras work with both ? Thank you. Sincerely,

A: No, this lens does not work with your Nikon D500. For your Nikon Z9 you can buy an adapter and then this lens will work on that camera. The adapter costs $200+.

Q: I have a Sony A7R IV - will this lens work with that camera body?

A: Yes, but you will need to either zoom in to get rid of the black rim or do a digital crop.
