Susana Baca - Palabras Urgentes - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Her upbringing in a coastal town in the south of Lima, called Chorrillos, revolved around a core of musical celebrations where she would watch and join in with the adults who sang and danced. On SEIS POEMAS, Susana takes US deeper into her own poetic history, with the moving works of Latin American and Spanish poets like Pablo Neruda, Cesar Vallejo, Cesar Calvo, Mario Benedetti, and Federico Garcia Lorca, lovingly placing their lyrics in understated arrangements of guitar, flute, violin and cajon. It's been said before that Baca's voice is like a quiet storm, but it's worth repeating. Like all storms in their myriad manifestations, Baca's restrained tempest, transcends Chorrillos. It transcends her people's history, Peru, her personal story, and even language. On SEIS POEMAS Baca deftly melds the quotidian fabric of poetry and age-old songs passed down orally with a universal sound that enthralls the listener no matter where they're from.

Vinyl LP pressing includes . Car Seat Headrest is the project of Seattle singer/songwriter Will Toledo. With a vision that is both sweeping in scope and intimately personal, Car Seat Headrest embodies the DIY ethos at it's best. Car Seat Headrest began in 2010 in Will's hometown of Leesburg, Virginia. Needing a place of solitude (and soundproofing) where he could record his often frantic vocals undisturbed, a 17-year old Will set up shop in the family car (hence the name). From this humble origin, he has since built up a catalogue of staggering breadth and depth. In the last five years there have been over ten releases under the Car Seat Headrest name, one of which exceeds two hours in length. While the songs of Car Seat Headrest are often long and complex, they are anchored by irresistible melodies and a piercing emotional directness. Dispersed across the globe, the CSH fanbase is the definition of a cult following several thousand internet denizens who deeply connect with Will's intensely honest and unfiltered approach to writing and performing. With the of Teens of Style, expect that number to greatly expand. This is Car Seat Headrest's first on Matador Records.
