Various Artists - Toe Tappin Ragtime / Various - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Catchy melodies, individual interpretation, and flashy technique epitomize InchnoveltyInch ragtime, a style of ragtime that emerged after World War I. This recording features Inchthe effervescence of authentic ragtimeInch through virtuosic performances by composer-pianists, and includes a rare solo by Clarence Jones, one of the few black musicians to record novelty rags.

This balanced collection of novelty rags includes compositions by the famed Zez Confrey and Roy Bargy, as well as expert interpretations of rarely heard pieces by Harry Jentes, Sid Reinherz, Jean Paques, Jay Wilbur, Walker O'Neil, and Willard Robison.

This compilation traces the genre's early days in the recording studio. It includes a reissue of the Victor Talking Machine Company's first piano ragtime disc in 1916, as well as several performances of English ragtime. These sides portray the piano in an era when recording technology struggled to capture the instrument's full range.
