About this product
Vater Percussion offers the Tai Ko Bachi drumsticks, which provide a traditional percussive tool design rooted in over 1,600 years of history for use with instruments such as the Taiko, Odaiko, and Nagado-Daiko. Crafted from resilient hickory wood, these sticks feature a substantial 0.950-inch diameter and a standard 16-inch length to offer a unique, mallet-style grip that is free from traditional tapering or tip shaping. This barrel-profile design functions to lower active performance volume and reduce tonal brightness across a standard drum kit, providing an alternative texture for acoustic ensembles, studio tracking, and drum circles. Cataloged for musicians seeking a specialized percussion implement, this pair of sticks delivers a consistent response for players looking to explore different sonic vibes during stage and studio sessions.
Features
Traditional Japanese Profile Built on Historic Legacy
Recreates classic percussive tool profiles dating back over 1,600 years to deliver a historically faithful playing experience. Sized to provide a highly compatible fit for traditional Japanese percussion instruments—including the Taiko, Odaiko, and Nagado-Daiko—this design offers a unique specialty setup that brings authentic character to both traditional ensembles and modern world music performances.
Thick 0.950-Inch Untapered Cylinder Design
Built entirely free from traditional shaft tapering or tip shaping, providing a uniform thickness from end to end that alters the stick's balance point. The robust 0.950-inch barrel profile provides a unique, mallet-style hold in the hand, making it an ideal choice for players seeking a thick, substantial grip alternative that changes how you interact with your percussion setup.
Familiar 16-Inch Length Crafted from Elite Hickory
Crafted out of resilient, high-density American hickory wood to supply excellent physical structural integrity and dependable shock absorption during heavy strikes. Designed with a 16-inch total length that remains immediately familiar to standard drum kit players, this layout ensures a highly comfortable reach across your entire percussion setup with minimal adjustment period.
Natural Acoustic Attenuation for Warm Drum Tones
Functions to naturally lower active performance volume levels across standard acoustic drum kits, making it a great alternative to traditional tipped sticks for low-volume sessions. This design dials back sharp, piercing high-frequency acoustic articulation on cymbals and drumheads to create a much warmer, subtler, and deeply resonant sonic vibe during play.
Versatile Performance Utility for Stage and Studio
Works well across varied musical performance settings, providing unique textures for tracking in recording studios, acoustic ensemble work, outdoor drum circles, and intimate live stages. This specialty pair is delivered as a matched one-pair set of hickory sticks to ensure a predictable, physically balanced performance response straight out of the box.
