Weta Workshop was intrinsically involved in the design and physical effects manufacture for all three films of The Lord of the Rings™ trilogy. It takes hundreds of hours to design, sculpt, model make, mold, and paint the prototype for each new Middle-earth piece. Whether it be a prop replica, beautiful environment, or iconic character, we treat our collectibles with the same level of care and attention to detail that we bring to our film work. In the twilight of the Shire, a golden glow may be glimpsed across the fields of Bywater. Warm light spills from latticed windows, while the scent of ale and woodsmoke drifts though the open air. Here lies the Green Dragon Inn, its hearth ever bright and its benches worn smooth by generations of hobbits. Within, tales are told, friendships kindled, and weary feet find rest beneath the low beams and thatched roof. It is a place both humble and hearty; a beacon of cheer and hobbit-hospitality. The Green Dragon Inn is the result of many hands working with patience and skill to bring a corner of Hobbiton to life. Every stage of its creation reflects the careful attention to detail fans know us for, and that continues to define our craft. Sculpting the world in miniature, where even the smallest feature carries weight, blades of grass and climbing ivy were placed by hand, while the thatching of the roof was carved strand by strand to capture the organic texture of straw. Working at such a scale requires an eye for balance, ensuring each detail enhances the character of the Inn while preserving its familiar silhouette. From there, the moulding and casting process preserved every curve and crease, ensuring the sculpt endured in its final form. In the painting booth, layers of tone and colour were then applied, bringing warmth and life to stone and timber alike. Golden thatch, soft shading, and the deep greens of Bywater’s gardens
